Subject: A disappointing ep of "Numb3rs" (4/29. . .spoilers)

Umm. . . .okay, I'm going to try to be nice here and say that I realize that any TV show -- no matter how good its quality is overall -- is bound to have the occasional klunker of an ep. And "Numb3rs" is still my favorite currently running TV show. Those disclaimers out of the way. . .this was definitely the least interesting ep yet.
First of all unlike, say, a kidnapped child or a rape victim I really had a hard time working up any sympathy for the guy who was murdered. Of course, it goes without saying that murder is wrong and naturally Don had a job to do. I'm not saying he could or should pick and choose his cases based on the likeability of the victims. But this guy was, from everything we found out about him, a sleazebag; he was trying to cheat his wife out of the money she deserved in their divorce settlement, he was trying to blackmail his bosses, he was trying to design computer programs to, in effect, promote eugenics. It was extremely difficult to *care* who killed him.
Secondly, we were totally without any of those heartwarming, humorous family moments that are one of my main reasons for watching the show. The only "family moment' was Dad telling Charlie "Your Mom and I almost got a divorce when you were in your early teens". . .which, IMHO, is kind of a bizarre thing for a father to tell his 29-year-old son, especially considering that Mom is now dead.
Third -- and you probably knew I was coming around to this one --we apparently need to file a missing persons report in regard to the female characters in this show!! One of the thing that drew me to the series in the pilot ep was two strong, vibrant women characters; an FBI agent and a budding mathematican. Amita seems to have practically been written out of the series and Terry had a "blink and you'll miss it" cameo in this ep. I thought Terry was supposed to be Don's partner, but David seemed to be his primary co-investigator throughout this ep. The whole episode basically reminded me of one of those old World War II movies where virtually all the characters are men. I realize there have been successful TV series with all-male casts, but those kind of shows honestly just don't appeal to me. If Terry and Amita don't start averaging more than one line per ep, I'm going to start losing interest. Rapidly.
Like I said. . .no show is going to be uniformly good, week in and week out. But the downgrading of the female characters seems to be part of an ongoing trend, not just a quirk of this particular episode.
