I'm still badly dressed...

no...the news is...

My wife is pregnant and I'll be a dadddy in February!!!!! After all that trying & doing IUI & IVF with no results & then it just happened!!! Too cool.

I was watching 24, Alias, Lost, Joan of Arcadia (yes, pretty wimpy for me but my wife got me into it) and Enterprise (felt bad that Trek was going down for the count). Well, Enterprise & Joan are gone (Trek needs a rest, really bummed about Joan as they seemed to be going places). 24 and Alias are just silly at this point but lots of fun. Alias rebounded after a terrible 3rd season with use of some Whedon personel. I loved having the mother return, she ups the show a notch.

Lost has been the best new show by far although one thinks the dragging out of the mystery(ies) will cause viewers to tune out. Someone here said they like the drama & consider the mystery to be something to ignore like Alias' over complicated plot. They have done some good work on the drama (it seems we'll never have a pure sci-fi network show again) but you can't just act like the mystery doesn't matter. I thought the finale would show us something in the hatch (an underground complex, the people from the tail section who are thought to be dead, etc.). The broken ladder fade out was a RIP OFF.

I watched some of Battlestar Galatica and it's quite an improvement on the goofy 70s version. I just wandered how no one notices Baltar is talking to (amongst other things) to the invisable chick. At least the tragedy of losing 90% of your people is addressed instead of shrugged upon in the original series. Not a fan of all the Stargate stuff, limited potential.

The return I'm most happy about is not a US show. Doctor Who is back on the air in the UK. As it's shot on video still, Sci-Fi passed & it's too expensive for PBS to pick up. So I'm relying on a friend who gets rare stuff. I've seen 4 eps so far, good stuff. Updated for our times (one ep even parodies the whole Iraq War build up). The companion gets to be a full three dimensional character and the Doctor is shown to be wrong or even irresponsible at times. The FX are better but would still be laughed at by US audiences.

Otherwise, I just got Outer Limits and Night Gallery on DVD. I'll keep watching the old shows and leave the new ones to you young whipper snappers. I saw commercials for Invasion, not going to be expecting much especially after paying to see Speilberg's crap War of the Worlds.

Serenity looks like an epic action film with the special girl doing a Buffy on the bad guys. Can't be subtle in film like on TV. I didn't like Firefly so much the first time around but seeing the DVD set made me a fan as that was in the right order and had those 3 extras we didn't see. I could see where the show was going. I hope we see those loony guys, the Maurauders?

Peace, out.
