I too have a thought after watching the BTM for the millionth time. I think there is more to the story than was really told and that we the fans will never really know the truth whatever it may be. Steve Perry wanted to be singer and was lucky enough to hook up with Journey and made them what they are today. Taking a look back on things on BTM got me to thinking. Neil said that Steve had the reins and they let go. Neil and the other could have at anytime stopped this if they were not happy with Steve taking the lead. Neil does understand that it was Steve and his voice that made Journey. Neil did say that. Steve saying that he never really felt like part of the band. That he always felt like the outside guy. That could have very well been the case. The guys had been together a long time before Steve. Steve realizing that the price had gotten great is just a sad reality to being on the road and touring alot. I think that if the band had taken time between albums and took time for themselves that Steve would have felt very different about life on the road and singing for thousands in big places. Personally I think that becoming so famous got the best of all the guys. They were captured in the moment. Life is what you make it. I believe Steve 100% when he said "Music had substained me. I can't float my boat solely I can't make it the only thing that makes me feel okay." Sometimes looking back can bring alot of regret and a wish to do things differently. Steve said "if had the chance to do it again he would not have done it", refering to the ROR. Life on the road can be a very lonely and long road. I think that Steve has always done what he thought was right for himself or he would not have done it. I think that having the time to reflect and look back can be a very healing thing for the soul and the heart. Steve feels now that he needs to live the private life and try to get back to his life. I respect that alot. The other guys felt that they needed to move on and continue with the band, which to me was wrong. They should have supported Steve during his medical problem (hip). The members from Def Leopard waited a whole year for there drummer to return. It just goes to show the loyalty of that band. I think in time Neil and the guys will see the errors of there ways and learn to eat alot a crow to try and get the Steve back. Personally I don't see it. I hope I am wrong on this and they are able to work things out. If that is the case and they do work out all the problems will it be the same. Yes, Steve voice has changed. He still sounds so great! He still has the looks for being a young 52. That man still makes me weak in the knees and makes my heart skip a beat when I see him now. I do hope that Steve does come out of hiding to record something new or just promote the "Essential Journey." Leading the life of Howard Hughes is not always healthy. There are celebrities that do lead a private life without vanishing away completely. I do understand Steve reasons for leading that very private life and commend him for that but in the same breath I have to sorta wonder what really happened with Steve and the guys. Everytime I see the BTM it always leaves me with the feeling that this is not all there is to the story. Since I have a great respect for Steve I will not question the why's in this but can only see the need of Steve being himself and getting back a normal life which he needs to have and had a very hard time trying to keep when he was touring with Journey. Steve seems to be a very easy going down to earth person that has finally been able to make peace with life and the choices he's made and has been able to go with life and enjoy himself and all that life has to offer him. Just my 2 cents. Perry On!
