What's really eerie is that I had that very same thought today about how the constant touring did damage to his voice. (I was listening to the TBF CD and thought about how I know from voice class that the human voice reaches it's peak (I believe in the 40s or later, I can't remember exactly) past the age that Herbie said that Steve's voice "changed" (which, according to HH was about 35 or so for Steve).) Then, I thought about how Steve was touring practically non-stop from when he joined Journey until ROR (and I got the feeling from various sources (that I have read or heard and from my own gut feeling) that he kept pushing himself to tour when he maybe shouldn't have).

I also listened to how Steve really seemed to push his voice to unbelievable heights (really "screaming" high notes) on the Escape album and thought to myself "If I had to do that, my voice would start to hurt, especially if I was touring non-stop."

I thought some more about how his voice has changed and I have come to the conclusion that I don't care... it's the soul and emotion behind the voice and the person that matters (and how he communicates feelings through his voice)... I also thought about how TBF's song "When You Love a Woman" had his changed voice on it and they were nominated for a grammy.
