how did people feel the first time a plane crashed? first car accident? train wreck? boat sank? titanic, hindenberg, lusitania....happens once its a shock, after that....

shuttle is so new that the first time it was shocking. this is no less shocking or tragic and heart goes out to families, but we kind of begin to accept that when you travel, you could die. you could die walking. and staying in your house isn't an option either. it's life. like how powermaster optimus prime didnt know he was alive until he was in an unfueled body experiencing death on nebulos.(sorry for the geek ref but its a good analogy in this froum.0

i wish i was more shocked. i was when i first got up and saw, but after a while...meanwhile after challenger all classes stopped and we sat there in school watching, then for weeks after i would get mad because kids were making "bud light" jokes. now peopl ehardly talk about it. maybe we've seen enough. the improtant thing though isnt whether the public is desensitized. i think its tragic that this happened but nasa should learn and make damn sure to reinforce the tiles going forward and realize how a slight thing could be major later on, maybe even rethink HOW we travel back and forth into spce. its 2003. there's got to be some advances and it sucks if it takes people dying for them to say hey lets rethink this. the whole "btw the stuff we had was really, really toxic fyi dont go near it or your lungs air sacs will be sealed off by a membrance" bit was an interesting aside too...
