Hi! I am going through getting my son tested for dyslexia and wishing I had support from parents with dyslexic kids. It has taken so much out of me. The principal at his school refuses to get him tested because his grades are good right now in grade 3 (He just turned 9) and no she has not made the effort to spend time with him and check him out himself to see what is going on! However I did some inital testing (very expsnive privately) where he scored very high in the area shows perception IQ but his memory index (sequences, remembering order etc) and word knowledge were MUCH lower. So low that the psychologist who tested him offered to call the school hereself!! It shows he is so smart he can dsiguise it at his age.

However I can see he cheats all the time i.e. guesses the words when they are reading, finds an alphabet in the classroom to know how to make the letter b... I

I did find someone to help guide me in the rigth steps to get this principal to get him the help so I am hoping finally the principal gets him tested.

I am doing as much reasearch as I can and trying to help him at home. His teacher is wonderful and finds ways to help him but it's not enough. If its this hard at 9 how will he cope when he gets older?

I am not willing to let this slide until it gets any worse. I want the best for my child and he has worked so hard and he deserves the help!

What some people don't realize is the emotional effect it has on the whoel family. Dyslexia can affect a child's behavior, emotions etc and it can stress the whole family out to the brink! The heartbreak of seeing your child change "overnight" to someone who struggles and is so depressed, and not the person you know they can be!

Sure we could go privately for an officie school recognized diagnosis but we do not have the money and it is the school's responsibility
