Subject: Clueless, they are absolutey clueless

My boss tells me today, guess I'd better get an ad in the paper and advertise in house for your replacement, I think well, yep, gave 'em six weeks notice and there's a week and a half to go, sounds like a good idea to me. Think it stunned him that my relief receptionist turned it down, it might have helped him if he had met with her when he found out about my notice, but that's ok, it was his decision to do that.
Then I read the ad on the breakroom wall for my job which lists my duties as running the switchboard, purchasing office supplies, and doing misc. errands.
Misc. errands????
Census track, admission and discharge input, form completion and distribution, petty cash transactions, resident counseling, tours, all facility copying, post office, bank, and candy runs four out of five days per week on lunch hours and after work, taking heat and being expected to be the god of technology for when the fax, phone, and alarm systems go down, this covers about half of what else I do aside from what he listed.
I'm not upset, I'm proud of myself for that, because there are some who know what I do, it's why they don't want my job, but I was just astounded my own boss is so dense in the head.
Then he tells a co-worker who says to him he'd better find someone suitable to follow me up in the position
"yep, think Bill's up for the job to pick 'em out and get 'em set up.".
Yeah, right
Applicant #1
has the energy of an intoxicated turtle, I'd have to kick her in the butt with a scalding hot steel toed cowboy boot to get her to move

Applicant #2
scoffs and gets upset at any obstacle or interruption in the routine and complains because she does worry about "all of the sitting" she'll have to do???
She has patience the size of a thumbtack.

Applicant #3
Like the Lily Tomlin character, what's her name, who runs the switchboard? I want to say Ernestine, she just wants to be able to talk on the phone and "relax, take it easy for a change"????

Maybe it's partly my fault for not speaking up more when things got overwhelming, so I am partly to blame, I just tend to say yes and take on the additional duties, it just astounds me how narrow views and minds can be.

Heck, just wait until the next person forgets to get the chocolate, you'd be stunned at how seriously upset my co-workers get if I don't have their favorite type of candy (seriously).

I hope to have someone from the outside by next week,
I'm making a complete written instruction manual for every division of the job so whoever takes my job, when they get slammed, they'll have the "dictionary" right there and can flip to step by step instructions from the simplest to the more complicated office operations.
I can't do any more,

All I can do is find the best one, train 'em, and get out of there, it is just a bit dissapointing the way many fellow staff viewed my job as such a peon position, but I think time will take care of that once I'm gone.

Even the residents are telling me life will go on, but once I'm gone, they'll know just how much I gave to the facility. It's those who appreciate me I'll truly miss. Atleast I'm fortunate to have them.

Again, not upset, just throwing my hands up in the air and saying whatever, no used going crazy over this.
The worst part is just being absolutely suffocated while I'm trying to work this move through, it's not easy working full and overtime and pulling this off, but it's what I have to do and I'm proud of myself I can say for doing it and continuing to do so. Just two anxiety attacks in the last four and a half weeks, otherwise, determined positive thinking.

Thanks for listening to yet another volume, heck, I'm more talkative than "Ernestine"
