I monitored "robots" at The Denver Post in the 1970's. Aroung 1980 they thre out the last of hot metal. From there went to Leadville (also Colorado). Set straight matter at the Herald Democrat. Until the publisher sold to a chain in the fall of 1985. Then my function became unnecessary and I "gave up" on the linotype.

My question is to anyone out there: Do you know of anyone who was regularly employed as a linotype operator in fall 1985? I like to think of myself as "one of the last". There must be a few more out there. Al
