Subject: It is because of the size of the group. U14 is frequently one of the largest comps. Hasn't always been this way, it switched to 3 at a time for the younger age groups in the mid-00s, I believe. In the midwest oireachtas days, it was 2 at a time and entrants were at teacher's discretion.
