Hi Tim,

Scan thru the forum for information on how to remove and repair your tape deck. Your problem is common and caused by old sticky grease and/or a broken spring post. Aside from this common problem, the Pianocorder is a rock-solid system and is not prone to failure. Once turned up, it should be good for the next 30 years.

Also, see suggestions in the forum for repairing your old cassette tapes.

Unplug the system before working on it.
If you are handy at all, it is relatively easy to remove the deck from the system, remove the tape deck cover and clean up and repair the tape head slider mechanism. Clean the tape head, pinch roller while it's open. You will then be able to use tapes without further difficulty.

In the event the tape deck is resistant to repair, you can still use the cassette adapter and utilize Mark's player from the computer.
In a pinch, you can wedge the slider mechanism into it's forward position with the cassette adapter in place and you're good to go.

Other options:
You will see in the forum where you can send your deck for repair. I recommend Carl Meyer. CMPiano@comcast.net
Or you may be able to buy a new deck. Jules Coco had a new one in the box for sale recently.

Research the forum, and contact me if you still have questions.

Good luck!
