Just a reminder that we are now accepting contestants for the 2003 Miss Sno-King pageant. The pageant is scheduled for January 12, 2003 in Mountlake Terrace. Last year each lady received a minimum of $50 scholarship with the winners each receiving a $600 scholarship, wardrobe allowance & gifts. We plan to match that then add some more.

Hi Jenna,
Just a quick note to say 'Hi' and let you know I'm thinking of you. I know how exhausting this week is for all the girls and at times you feel overwhelmed, but you will realize by Sunday morning just how quickly the week flew by.
Good luck for tonight, I'll be lifting you up in my prayers and I'm sorry I can't be there to cheer you on.
Last year the results of each evening were posted on the site VERY quickly so I'll keep checking. Robin said she would call me at sometime during the evening and let me know how things were going....
Take care, and smile Smile SMILE!

Margaret

Dearest Jennifer,

You've a great message to deliver to the youth of this great state: deliver it well! I know you will be a ray of sunshine and great spokesperson when you meet your Interview Panel!

Remember YOUR silent hero and hold Him dear in your heart; through HIS strength and YOURS, all things are possible.

It is my plan to visit with you and your fellow competitors later this evening at the SuperCenter Mall; shine brightly so all can see the delightful star that is Miss Pierce County!

I sincerely hope you and all the ladies competing for the title of Miss Washington ~ 2002 are having the times of your lives; this is a wonderful experience and a time of growing, loving, and fun! Enjoy it! *very large smile*

Jennifer, you've made me a very proud person this past year: you gave me the delightful gift of being able to work with you. If you can do that for me, can you imagine what you've accomplished for your peers and the many other lives you've touched? Oh, Jennifer, just imagine the snowball effect on the many lives you've touched; it's mind-boggling.

Again, Paul and I wish you the very best in your endeavor to obtain the title of Miss Washington ~ 2002. Enjoy this wonderful opportunity to enlighten and touch other lives and allow God to handle the rest!

Always, Char Gassler

Kris, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it up. I'm really sorry:( I'm going to make an effort but don't get your hopes up. I don't know if you've been watching the news or not but a plane crashed at the Cannon fire. I don't want to get into much detail but I will say I'm pretty lucky to be alive. Any whoo, I might be going to that fire down in Arizona that's 50 miles. I love you lots and I'm going to try my hardest to get back. Remember, life's a garden, dig it and live every moment to its fullest. No matter what happens you'll always be number one to me. Your Bro Ben :)

Mushi Mushi Daughter! I have the honor to be selected as the father to a phenominal daughter. You are distinctly Kristen, and ever more shall be. Your crown is your heart, your smile and your love of people - the rest is ready to be presented to this world in only the way that you can do it! Your family loves you and supports you wherever your path will lead. I hope that this time will be just simply "the best." Love, your very, very proud Dad

Emma, being your friend has been a wonderful blessing for me this past year. I will be there to cheer you on each and every night of competition.
Life isn't as serious as we make it out to be, so remember to have a great time while keeping your focus. Also, make sure you eat while you are there! I would bring you some cheesecake, but I don't recall which flavor you prefer!
Let me know if there is anything you need during the week. You will find it in your basket as soon as I can get it there!
Hugs,
Katie

I'm SO excited for you, my friend! Know that I'm cheering for you and keeping you in my prayers! Here's a little thought to keep you "centered"...

"Do not have your concert first and then tune your instrument afterwards... start each day with God."

And here's one to remind you that everything you've walked through to this point, has been forming you into the beautiful and priceless person you are...

"Adversity is the diamond dust Heaven polishes its jewels with."

Shine with Him in all you do! Sending a hug your way...

Dear Fianna:

Well, here we go again. Thanks for taking me along for the ride. It never hurts to say you never stand on that stage alone. Your whole family are there behind you. You have become that woman of grace and beauty I have often spoke of. Repressing that quality is impossible, because you either "got it" or you don't, and believe me, you got it!.

Thank you for the many hours you have freely given me when I know your life is a whirlwind of teaching college and going to school.

But noone - NOONE - can ever hold the place in my heart that you do, not to mention the titles of Miss Spokane 2000, Miss Washington First Runner Up 2000 (and on your first try) and now the first Miss Inland Empire 2002.

I am available to you always 24-7. So, with a >-) and a :-)

Day Ten at Miss America
Hot off the Press...

Bre called this morning after her interview. She was so pleased with the way things went. They asked her questions like her opinions on Condit, Bush's environmental policies, oil drilling in the Arctic, Clinton's administration, abortion, whether the government or communities should step to the plate to care for seniors and so on. She thought the interview went very well. She says she "blew them away" with her opening 45 seconds, something to do with leadership and service.

Rehersals for the balance of the day with very tight security!

Signing off until tomorrow!

MISS AMERICA JOURNEY DAY SIX

Hot off the press courtesy of Lois Elaine

YES, WE WILL HAVE THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT, '"GOD BLESS AMERICA"

Today, Breann was off early to Boardwalk Hall. Barbara was at a State traveling Companion luncheon and they had back stage tour and into the Boardwalk Hall and it is gorgeous. She said we will not even recognize it

Breann said girls with "OK spirits, no one lost family members. Ladies had smiles on their faces and a lot of praying taking place.

Five branches of clergy available today. Jewish, Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, and Episcopal . Each of the clergy made comments and gave short inspirational talks to the group of 51 contestants. All contestants had a chance to speak and had private talks with their choice of clergy. The group came together and had prayer.

The girls met amongst themselves for nearly two hours and they wanted to go ahead with the Pageant. They did a vote on paper and the vote was two to one in favor of having the Pageant. During the time they met, they all decided no matter what the vote was, they would go ahead in confidence.

Rehearsals all afternoon and today rehearsing on swimsuit.

"All in Good Spirits"

They waited for the decision and at 6 PM Eastern time, a press conference was called and you may find exact words on Web Site however here it is in brief "After talking with National Leadership, with ABC, with fifty one contestants and production and the Board, we have decided to go ahead with the Miss America Pageant in good taste. Some comments were "Contestants had a right to Freedom of self expression and going to allow us to do by holding the Pageant".

We would not allow the Terrorists to hold Miss America Hostage.

Miss America is an "ICON", 'TRADITION' AND "HISTORY"

In a special note of interest to all "Father's and or escorts will escort every nite in
Presence and Poise (Evening wear) "

MISS AMERICA JOURNEY DAY THREE
The ladies were up at 6 AM with 8 AM to 10 AM breakfast meeting. Then a highlight of the day with twenty children from St. Christopher's Hospital, Childrens Hospital and their families came to see the contestants and they autographed for the children A very touching moment.

Philadelphia Phillies (Baseball) Mascot came and did entertainment and all the girls did the Congo with the Mascot. That was fun. Then two hour historic tour of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This was very interesting and memorable.

Contestants had a private guided tour of City Hall. Then they had a one hour meeting with Miss America Chief Executive Officer, Robert M. Renneisen, Jr. Tonite Sunday night held a 6:30 PM dinner at Katmandu Restaurant in Philadelphia.

Monday morning holds a very early wake-up Luggage to be at the door 6 AM with Breakfast 7 AM Philly Trolley Works 8 AM and the famous train 9:15 AM to Historic Atlantic City, New Jersey when the continued festivities happen.

CONTESTANT ARRIVAL IN ATLANTIC CITY Monday, September 10, 2001. Good Luck Breann and State Traveling Companion Barbara as they reach Miss America for a wonderful day and preparations for all festivities and competitions.

MISS AMERICA JOURNEY DAY TWO

Hot off the press courtesy of Lois Elaine Smith - Miss Wa Press Director

Great exciting news from Philadelphia where Breann is having a marvelous time. They started off with nice breakfast this morning, then Miss America Contestants meeting and then off for the fun things. A Historic Tour of Philadelphia. A marvelous Italian luncheon at a superb Italian restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia. The food was out of this world.

They toured Independence Hall, House of Betsy Ross, Liberty Bell and other sights. The ladies board the Trolley with all the ladies (Contestants) in the front two Trolleys and the State Traveling Companions in the Trolleys behind the girls.

Tonight they were guests on the Spirit of Philadelphia and were on this Cruise from 7 PM until back to the Pier at 11:30 PM. They had food and dancing and the girls had the opportunity to dance all evening. Some Military gentlemen were guests on the "Spirit" and "Cute Guys" and they danced all evening. They just had a Ball.

Highlights tomorrow start with a Breakfast and meeting with Miss America Officials. Then more Tourism, one of the historic scenes, "Philadelphia Museum of Art" and I will give you more details tomorrow night.

Miss Washington had a great trip with State traveling companion, Barbara to Philadelphia today- arrived in great shape. They were picked up in style, of course, in Black limo and rode with Miss Illinois, Miss Florida to the Hotel. The hotel is beautiful, had lots of PRESS, wonderful, most elegant dinner with all the contestants tonite and she is having a glorious time.

Sincere Appreciation to all those who drove a distance today for Breann send off and Thank You for all who attended. Miss Washington was most appreciative of everyone coming today. It meant so much to her.

She is having a great time. Tomorrow all the Contestants are on Tourism of the Philadelphia area, including Liberty Bell, Spirit of Philadelphia Cruise and other Historical sights

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for being so incredibly wonderful and FUN this last week! Gosh, I had a great time, and I would have felt honored and confident passing the crown over to any one of you FABULOUS young women. I don't want to go on and on, but I wanted to post this message to give my email address so you all would know how to get in touch with me. I am so impressed with the tone and support of this message board. Believe me when I say that I am on a lot of message boards as I obtain information for my webpage "I Love Miss America Homepage" and not one compares in tone to this one! I am so impressed that I just had to comment and congratulate you. One of the reasons I started my website two years ago was that I read an absolutely horrible post on one of my favorite Miss America's Kate Shindle. I felt compelled to do something positive, rather than negative. Although there are other websites that promote pageants, at the time I couldn't find one totally dedicated to Miss A and the journey it took to get there, meaning spotlighting the local and state pageants as well the big dance.

I hope and pray that this board and others like it will prosper and someday make my site a needless space!

Again thanks and keep up the good work!

KRISTINA,
Just wanted to thank you for being such a positive role
model for my kids as well as all the kids on the Harbor.
You have always been a friend to Kyle since grade school.
Because of you and your help with Camp Cispus my 6th grader
is truly excited about the transition into Junior High, ready and willing to support his class as you have
and of course, my third grader is your number one fan. God
bless you and may He give the strength and calmness you need
to glide through this next few days with ease.
We love you and support you all the way!
Much Love,

Your brother lit up the sky, but he is saving some great fireworks for when you come home...certainly ones to celebrate your successes at Miss Washington. I was just looking at your picture on the parade horse in Japan. You look regal atop the beautiful steed; just as regal as you would look as Miss Washington!

Hi Caitlin,
Talked with Robin this morning and she filled me in on your happenings. How was the boat trip today? Sure hope your weather was cooler than ours, but not too cool! We reached around 100 degrees today and it's supposed to be warm the rest of the week.
I'll be thinking of you in the morning, just remember ALL those 'Mock Interviews' we did.
I'm sure by now you are realizing how much work this week is, make and effort to remember this experience and above everything, enjoy yourself and make lots of new friends.
Robin will be calling me to let me know how your week is going.
Love,
Margaret

A prayer for you:
Heavenly Father, Holy One, thank you for your awesome works! You alone are our strength and song! We come to You with repentance in our hearts; we want to do Your Will at all times and we ask that You forgive us our sins. Cleanse us and cover us with the precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus. We lay our lives and our worship on Your altar as we come before You asking for Your blessings.
Lord, I ask that You bless Breann, indeed, with all the blessings that You have in store for her. Expand her borders by bringing people into her path that will see Your glorious Light shining in her. Lord, keep Your mighty right hand on her and empower her with Your strength throught the Holy Spirit. And keep her from evil and temptation, Lord, protect and hem her in on all sides with your love, mercy and grace that she would not come to harm or would harm or grieve others. Thank you, Lord, for what you are going to do with and through Breann during this competition week. We thank you for your gracious mercy and unending love.
In the mighty Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

I (and the board) love you so much and are so proud of you!!! See you Wednesday!! :-)

Dear Jamie:

As a Spokanite and former Miss Spokane contestant eons ago I sincerely wish you a wonderful memory filled week of experiences while in Tacoma. You are one of the chosen few to be where you are. Don't ever forget. We briefly met on the night of your crowning. I am Fianna's aunt. The time we spent dealing with all her experiences is more the fun. It is alot of work too. Especially for you the contestants. I felt the night of Miss Spokane that you were the most mature, confident of all contestants.
And please let me say when I approached you to thank you, I was striken by how beautiful you are up close and in erson. I knew something special was radiating from that stage when ever you came out.
Well, all I can say is open this door with all you got girl. You go!
Stay true to who you are no matter what and enjoy you only go around once. Best wishes, luck and love from our family.
Alice Nuxoll

P.S. Fianna tells me we used to be neighbors, we lived on the SW corner
of
24th and madison, for 26 years. I remember when you were just a tiny
baby.
And so blond too...

Sweet Amy, you have it all together to be Washington's next representative in Atlantic City. I have no doubts! I've been privileged to watch you grow into the lovely young woman you have become and I am so very proud of you!

You have an incredible talent, a strong belief in your platform, a true sense of outward grace and beauty, the support of family and friends who love you... but most of all Amy, you have the radiant inner beauty that makes you a winner in the highest regard. Whoever said that "beauty is only skin deep" never met our Amy! Your inner beauty outshines all else.

You are destined for wonderful things. We know from where your precious gifts originated, so give it your all at State, and let's see what He has planned for you!

"All things work together for good to them that love God." Romans 8:28

Knowing you, and being a part of your life for the past four years has been a wonderful blessing to me.

XOXOXO,

We would like to extend our best wishes, loads of luck, and lots of fun to the Miss Washington 2001 contestants. It will be a busy week but keep the faith, do your best at each and everything you do (even when it doesn't "count"), make some friends, and enjoy this time. Keep in mind how few young women in the history of the Miss Washington Scholarship Organization have actually had the chance to be where you are and do what you are doing and will do. You are all amazing young women with alot to offer your town, the state, and who knows, America! Since we had the chance to see many of you crowned, it makes us feel even more a part of this year's festivities. Ask Semmelle lots of questions, tell your parent's to ask us lots of quetions, and we will all do our best to help in any way we can. So HAVE FUN! We're almost there!
