There is an old saying;

"Some people are born great. Others have greatness thrust upon them."

I think that if our own Lady Synergy was not already in a leadership position she would not be the kind of person to put herself forward. And yet, one of the longest, non-flame, threads I have seen testifies to her worth. Her humility is an admirable virtue that I suspect is shared by other fine members of the guild.

For this reason, may I suggest an alternative approach to looking for volunteers. Let us instead accept nominations for the roles. Those nominated may accept or decline the nomination. Once we have at least one candidate for each role, the guild members can cast a vote for their preferred candidate.

All nominations and acceptances can be handled via the board. The final votes should be via ICQ to Ka or Syn. In this way we maintain the democratic input that is integral to our guild. At the same time Ka or Syn can protect us from making any really bad choices by having the right to overule the final tally.

May I also suggest that where there are teams handling one of the guild functions such as recruiting, that one person be appointed team leader (or a suitable title). If we wish to see these important guild functions handled well we need to have a central point of accountability.

In addition, I humbly suggest that after guild members are appointed to these positions a formal investiture ceremony is conducted. The responsibility inherent in these roles should be properly recognised and understood. (Particularly by the one appointed) I am sure that we can find a DoD way of not getting too serious about the whole thing while at the same time making it clear that there will be some individuals with special parts to play in the life of the guild.

Lastly, let me support your selection of functional teams:

- Diplomatic,
- Recruitment and Induction
- Event Management

These are quite logical and cover the core activities of the guild.

I submit these proposals to the guild and bow to the judgement of my Guild Master and my peers.

Your servant,

Thomus of Darkstone.
