Okay Eddie without the stage, hmmmmmmm, I just think he would have been drawn to it in some form eventually, I think without it he would have been so closed off and repressed. Too shy to talk to anyone, struggling with the TV urges, without confidence...but then he has that pigheaded drive so I dunno. But without reading or writing skills, couldn't be a scholar. Maybe he really would have joined the army. It's hard to imagine him without that stage personality, bigger than life.
