  • A tunnel opens wide before her. The lamp that Erim holds illuminates enough of it for her to see that it has a high ceiling and rough walls. The tunnel ends abruptly after a short ways, opening into a small cave. Several other tunnels lead off of the cave. (NT) -- Fate, 11:54:55 01/25/03 Sat
    • Erimani paces the cavern's edge for a moment, scanning the tunnels with careful scrutiny. "The domain of the dragons is certain to be found near the center of the volcanoes, yet they must have access to the surface..." Erimani muses. • Suddenly, a deep rumbling is heard through the cavern, seeming to come from all directions at once. Another follows, this sounding a bit lower and clearer, and is just identifiable as a dragon roar from far below the cavern. • Erimani, hearing the first rumble, stands poised a short ways down the second tunnel, listening. • Abruptly, the scuffling sound stops, and, from the sound of it, still quite far away, though it's hard to tell with all of the echos in this cave. Everything falls strangely silent, and it seems to be even quieter that is was before the dragon roars. (NT) -- Fate, 09:21:59 03/21/03 Fri

• OOC: Yay! BIC: The tunnel is long and winding, steeply sloped downwards, and in places quite narrow, certainly not a tunnel that a dragon could use. But after going some distance down the tunnel, a faint sound is heard, but it's not identifiable until Erimani is further down the tunnel and it repeats, and sounds like a rather frustrated sigh from a rather large frustrated individual.   • There is a momentary check in Erimani's stride as she does some rapid thinking. Though cautious, she is resolute, unafraid. Even in the worst case, (Perhaps the dragon is frustrated about the lack of available mealstuff,) her edge should afford her the chance to escape. So close. As it is, she cannot do any more planning, but she continues down the tunnel towards the singular noise, making no sound to mark her own passage. Near the opening she sets the lamp down on the smooth floor, leaving both hands free to wield the staff, and looks around with sharp eyes to assess the situation. • From just inside the tunnel, the cavern takes a moment to make out, for it's rather dark inside of it, especially without the full light of the lamp. It is, however, not completely dark, for some phosphorescant algae is growing on the far end of it. The cavern is large and nearly circular, perhaps the length of 5 good-sized dragons. Speaking of good-sized dragons, there's one next to the wall to Erimani's left. It seems preoccupied on a large dragon-sized tunnel in front of it that seems to lead further into the mountain. He is dark of skin and hard to see in little light, but the glint of his scales shows him to be pacing back and forth in front of the tunnel, apparently in a state of great agitation, though there's nothing seeable in the tunnel beyond him.   • Erimani considers the sight of the dragon with a long indrawn breath, impressed with the power expressed in its movements. Somehow even the words of dragon-lore fall short in their attempt to describe the sheer intensity of a free dragon. I am taking my place in an ageless pattern, she realizes, A pattern played out by untold individuals before me, but each encounter is no less profound than the first. She gives a peculiar smile. Or less perilous. She will not let admiration cloud her wits.Marking the dragon's agitation, Erimani decides that it would be extremely unwise to make any sudden startling moves. Distress him further and I provoke an unnecessary outlash. She takes up the clay lamp, holding it before her with a remarkably steady hand, and begins approaching the dragon, her steps slow and measured, her eyes watching for the first sign of reaction. • The dragon remains remarkably oblivious of Erimani's movements, and it takes a few moments for him to see her even when she comes fully into view. Despite Erimani's gentle approach, the dragon seems startled by her seemingly sudden appearance, for in his normal state of mind, he'd likely have heard or smelled her coming long before. For an instant the dragon pauses, seeming to marvel at the chance that an elf has come so close to him without him noticing. The moment this fact is properly registered and filed away for future use, the dragon is quick to act. This action takes the form of a large jet of hot flame aimed directly at Erimani.
