Actually, WTP was mostly just trying to scare silveragent. The finale wasn't to have gone quite like that.

Without giving too much away, basically Xander was to have sacrificed himself in order to save the scoobies, and the world. It's not too hard to figure out how. Apart from that, everything else was to have happened as it did, though Willow might have been slated to die as well.

Want proof? Look at what WTP says about a tragedy, that for the greeks it was more important that the hero learned from his failing and bettered himself, not that he neccessarily survived. This means that none of the core characters would die with something bad hanging over their head. Also a classic tragedy uses a persons strength and weakness to bring about the downfall, and Xander's weakness is certainly not a lack of loyalty or courgae. If anything its him having too much loyalty and courage, not knowing when to back off.

Just some things to think about.
