    • She was still terribly flustered that she had walked in on that but was thankful that it hadn't been something far more embarrassing. • She lifted a brow as she listened to the continuation of Lacey's explanation and shook her head, a little dumbstruck that all of this was coming out -- well, dumbstruck but not at all surprised, over the time she had come to know Lacey as an articulate, passionate girl that she was very proud of. He stood at the door with it cracked open a bit to watch the goings-on - really, he should be doing this but the thought of saying anything to his mom that even remotely denoted him as an adult, especially one that was sexually active, was so embarrassing it burned his face up just thinking about it. • She watched Elizas expression and saw the raised brow and shake of her head and felt her heart sink a little, waiting for any kind of response , forgiveness- understanding- anything. • She waited a moment before she spoke, looking the girl over - she had been so different when she'd first met her -- of course she suspected that Ryan had helped her out quite a bit before she and her husband ever met her. "Lacey..." She spoke haltingly - sure, this was difficult for her, but it wasn't nearly as big of a deal as the kids thought it was. She was embarrassed, not mad. • Lacey halted as Eliza said her name, turning back to her apprehensively and swallowing a little as she met her gaze. Her words suprised her a little, and she was taken a little off gaurd when Eliza hugged her, but she very quickly returned the hug, letting it last a few moment, squeezing her eyes tightly closed. It was times like this it made her sad that her own mother didn;t love her, she didn;t even so much as get a card or a call from her - its like she was dead to her mother. She felt tears sting her eyes but held hem back, closing her eyes tightly and laughing a little at her comment about wrinkles, though the tears still clouded her eyes. • She took the girl up in her arms even closer and rubbed her hands down her arms reassuringly. "Oh honey, I don't need any thanks. Seeing you excel and grow as a young woman is thanks enough." It was typical mother figure banter, but she meant it so much it nearly hurt. This girl had broken her heart when she'd first arrived, and she suspected there was much more to the entire story than what she was seeing. • Lacey grinned a touch and arched a brow, looking from one to the other in a curious, but suspicious manner. "Months huh? What do I need to wear?" She wasn;t sure if would be a horsey day or a dress up day or a casual day... either way- between Eliza and Ryan they made sure she had clothes for all occasions- more than she could even wear she imagined. He took the stairs down to the kitchen two at a time to find the two of them waiting there - and they said girls took a long time to prepare. He grinned and tucked Lacey under his arm as they headed out to his Jeep. "Get ready for the birthday of a lifetime." He wasn't horsey at all but the first barn they planned to visit had horses worth hundreds of thousands, grand prix dressage horses, and imports directly from Germany. Eliza's stables were beautiful- but they were much more homely than these- she suspected even a peice of straw on the ground would be uncommon. She was friends with the owner - through Robert, of course, who knew everyone who knew or had anything, it seemed like. She had become fast friends with the woman who owned the farm, and while she had visited Eliza's once or twice while Lacey was present, they had never alluded to who this woman was - responsible for some of the top dressage horses in the nation. She gestured out the window at the gleaming steeds, each in their own individual paddocks. • Her eyes grew a little wider as she saw the woman she recognised heading over tot he car as they pild out slowly, feeling incredibly excited and overwhelmed. She was particularly attracted to a striking black and white coloured , huge big 16.2 stallion... he was striking and had a very nice head on him. "Who's he?" She asked curiously. She'd been reading up on Ryans internet about a famous German breeder that got the most fantastic colours in his Warmbloods- palominos and coloureds and everything you could imagine. The colored were just beginning to catch on in North America, but she'd always had an appreciation for them in the first place - they just weren't "traditional" so it was taking a while for them to become popular. • "We're trying to build a base of really good imported horses to breed with as we're not finding exactly what we want in American horses... Serge stands at stud and we have Primo and Zenza at stud as well, but there aren't many American mares that meet their standards as far as that goes." She wandered off up the alleyway, encouraging the girl to come along behind and get a peek at some of the other horses in the barn - there were coloreds and solids, but it was quite obvious which were Nancy's favorites. • Lacey fell hopelessly in love with pretty much the entire barn full, drooling over each and every beautiful equine. Her eyes were pretty much fixed outside of her head the whole time. She kept throwing Eliza amzed glances as they passed various horses, and when they came to a Palomino coloured Warmblood Lacey just about stole him. "Oh my goodness... can you imagine the babies he'd throw? Do you compete with any of them?" She was eager to learn all she could about this place and the horses in it.
