Subject: I think it stinks!

I just think it stinks. When I think of the crappy programming USA Network has inflicted on us, it absolutely kills me that they couldn't continue to broadcast the reruns. It sounds like the usual doubletalk they used to dish out when we were campaigning. What the f*&K does it mean, they don't own the rights to the show anymore? So who does? And what the f&&K are they going to do with them? Lock them away in the rerun vault somewhere? Will they ever be rebroadcast?

While I do believe it was only a matter of time before the show was totally phased out since they chose to bury the reruns on @ 4:00 am in the morning on Sunday, I still think they just treated the show shabbily considering it was the highest rated Cable program in its primetime run.

I still love the show and always will. I don't often jump on the board like I used to back when we did have a new episode to look forward to. But I still lurk occasionally and post. I just have had way too many issues in RL to devote to the board like I did in the past. When I think back to all the crazy posting I used to do, I just made the time to chat with you guys because I wanted to read what everyone had to say about the latest episode. Now it seems like everybody connected with the show has scattered, we hear only sporadic news about what they're in and we don't have the reruns to tune in to. It makes me mad but what can we do?

I've had a hard time accepting that the show isn't airing anywhere. This makes me mad.

We can't get WB to bring us out some DVDs, they're so busy with their Buffy crowd. Sure the Buffy crowd has a lot of disposable income but the La Femme Nikita fans always delivered to the star's charities (and still do) and traveled to Toronto on four occasions to visit with the stars and interact with each other. The WB just threw these fans away and swept them under the rug.

I don't watch anything the WB does or USA Network. And I don't watch "24" the new Joel S show because he didn't have all of this brilliance when he was over LFN. Now he's doing something more mainstream and that's the very reason why I don't follow it. I don't do mainstream television. "24" seems to have hit the right chord with Emmy so now he's got awards out to the wazoo with that show. I still think deep down they resented the fact that the star they wanted to breakout of La Femme Nikita didn't and they're still mad at us. They're treating us like silly women who were drooling over RD and therefore we didn't have any clout in the entertainment market.

I'm sorry if I sound bitter but that's the way I feel. I don't rush home to watch anything television has to offer unless its on the Food Network, A & E or to watch a tennis match. Old movies are an interest of mine as well. If its in B/W I'm there with my popcorn.

I'm also an African-American and I am currently collecting the movies with an African-American cast that treated African-American's like they HAD A BRAIN and are not of the Martin, Fresh Prince ilk. Not that those shows weren't ok, but African American's do have a serious side. The Cosby show was the only comedic show that I felt dealt intelligently with a slice of the African-American experience. The African-American dramas (and support characters in dramas) are few and far between.

Not that I limit myself to shows with that theme. I consider myself to be open to all new programming since I've worked in a teaching/learning environment most of my life (I have worked for a university for most of my life and have been exposed to people from all walks of life). That's why I followed La Femme Nikita. It was different from anything else on television and unfortunately I haven't seen anything lately or since that even comes close.

La Femme Nikita was just a special television experience that I'm sure just won't get duplicated in my life.

Thanks for letting me vent. I just had to get that off my chest.

And again, thanks Susan for keeping the fans together

[> You won't be suprised to hear that the programming geniuses that run USA network also own Scifi channel and that they are using their same moronic reasoning to cease the filming of their criticaly praised and currently highest rated show "Farscape", saying the audience isn't big enough and isn't growing. The screaming over on those message boards sounds very familiar. -- Trish, 14:29:24 09/10/02 Tue

[> [> That's very sad to hear trish. I sometimes tune in to Sci-Fi to catch the old reruns of Star Trek. I can't believe they have decided already that Farscape doesn't have a "big" enough audience or isn't "growing". How do they expect the audience to grow if they don't give it a chance? It is indeed sad to see this happening, especially to Sci-Fi. I used to watch Sci-Fi on a regular basis a couple of years ago but lately had begun to tune out because I couldn't figure out what programming genius was putting together their schedule. Now that I know USA Network is behind it, that explains it for me. To take a critically acclaimed show and that is getting noticed and is their highest rated show makes absolutely no sense. I can forsee USA Network/Sci-Fi Network will not have an audience for their inane programming for long. How many reruns of Martin, Baywatch, Nash Bridges, etc can an audience take? -- Petty, 15:16:30 09/10/02 Tue

[> I agree -- I think it sucks too. I've been hoping the website schedule just wasn't updated. And the news about Farscape depresses me almost as much; I knew eventually LFN wasn't going to run forever but I thought @ least it'd get through the series this last time, and I'd kind of been getting a little comfort from Farscape as a surrogate. I don't know how much more I can lose out of my life @ this point; you'd think I'd @ least be granted a few crumbs of the things I care about. I feel like Michael must have felt most of the time. -- wiboth, 20:31:42 09/10/02 Tue

[> [> wiboth...hugs and kisses to you sweetie. I like what you said about feeling like Michael must have felt--eloquently put! Our boy in black did do suffering well, didn't he? That's the one bright spot out of all of Season 5 for me--that he was reunited with his son. Even though the guy was a killer for Section, he was a killer with a heart. You felt for him a lot of times. I'm so sorry Sci-Fi has felt the need to take Farscape. Leave people with something besides Survivor and those other reality based shows. I don't watch TV for realism--I watch it for escapism (LOL). Now I've heard on the Hussy board that Witchblade has been cancelled as well. -- Petty, 13:49:32 09/11/02 Wed
