Susan W.'s La Femme Nikita Message Board

Welcome! This message board is dedicated to the T.V. series "La Femme Nikita", currently showing late nights on U.S.A. network, and in syndication around the world. Your moderator is Susan W. • News about PW -- Trish, 10:03:19 05/28/02 Tue
Here is some gossipy-type news about PW I found in an indexing service from the Sydney Herald. I will put it in the reply. These things are always quoting "friends", but what kind of friends talk to newspapers like this. I don't know how believable any of it is, except maybe the baby's name.

Others may have known what that guy was doing in BAHWC, but although I knew he was making some kind of record of what was being said and done, I wasn't sure exactly what it was all about. I think maybe this explains it, except I think he was just talking into a tape recorder?

Why Stenotypists Are Trying To Keep Voice Writers Quiet

    By WILLIAM M. BULKELEY
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

CONCORD, N.H. -- Paula O'Regan is fast and accurate at
transcribing proceedings of the New Hampshire legislature. Recently, she posted the text of evening impeachment hearings against the state's chief justice on a state Web site the next morning.

But she isn't allowed to take down testimony in any state-court case. That's because state-court regulations recognize only old-fashioned stenotypists as court reporters -- stenographers using stenotype machines. Stenotypists are well organized to monopolize the lucrative jobs and keep out
    people such as Ms. O'Regan.

Ms. O'Regan is a "voice writer" who creates transcripts by repeating everything that is said in a hearing -- up to 225 words per minute -- into a hard plastic cup connected to a voice-recognition computer. She doesn't need fast fingers to record a legislative debate -- just a quick tongue.

A friend and I were thinking about LFN one day and how in many episodes, there were lists that needed to be retrieved. Like list of funds, etc. My friend was wondering if you ever see checkmarks next to some of the things on the lists that have already been looked into. I said I really didn't know, but that I would see if anyone else does. She is just curious about it, but it is no big deal.

I kept thinking that Barry Manilow's goofy style reminded me of someone and finally it hit me: O'Brien from Voices. That exuberance, that joy, those eyes popping out and that mouth hanging open. The sheer innocence of it all. Almost chic, almost suave, almost complelling, almost...

Well. It was still nice to hear the old tunes.

Thank you for the virus warning. I will keep a look out. Also, I wanted to let you all know that I have added some new pictures to my website. The URL for it is http://members.fortunecity.com/lafemmerin/. I hope that some of you will go check it out and let me know what you think. I miss the show being on television. I hope that they will make an LFN television movie soon. By any chance does anyone know if Matthew Fergensons new series airs in the U.S.? I am curious, because if it did air here, I would check it out. An other thing I was curious about was is Michael and Nikita checking things off on the pages on the clipboard in "On Borrowed Time." I am just curious about what they are supposedly doing. On another front, my family and I are considering taking a vacation to Montreal for a few days. I was thinking about it and I suddenly thought maybe while I was there, I might see Roy Dupuis some where around there. Is it crazy to think that is possible?

  • Imitation of Death -- Shirleym, 12:08:25 05/13/02 Mon

I was up really late Saturday night and watched LFN while I washed some dishes. The ep was Imitation of Death, one of my most unfavorite episodes, but in light of what's happening over in the Middle East, it really hit me about the boy was being taught to be a killer, even to the point of blowing himself up. Perhaps if they'd concentrated on that storyline, rather than the bald guy who liked to fondle the dimple in his chin, it would have been a better episode.

When LFN was airing in the U.S. and Canada for the first time, we were relatively insulated from the troubles of the world. I wonder what it's like to watch the show for the first time with all the terrorism in the news each night. Simone, with the planes crashing into each other, all the behind the scene manipulations of heads of countries... and episodes like IOD.

    Off on another tangent-
I'm putting an article in the reply. Think they could have used the idea in an LFN episode? LOL

  • Virus Warning -- Schnee, 21:54:03 05/19/02 Sun
    Hi y'all.

I just wanted to mention that a virus/worm has been making the rounds through fanfic author email addies. (I think for awhile now...I saw it mentioned elsewhere a few weeks back.) I'm not sure who may have become infected. The virus is W32.KlezH@mm. See http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.h@mm.html for complete details.

This worm can appear as either new mail or returned mail. The sender shown on the mail may not be the infected individual. It cloaks itself with from and to addies from the infected person's address book. In the returned mail instance, it appears you are the person sending the mail, making you think perhaps you are infected when in fact virus scan shows you are not. It is all a ploy by the worm to get you to open the email attachment, since it is supposedly from yourself.

I have yahoo mail, and thus the virus attachments are removed and I'm not at risk for infection. (At least so far as I can tell.) But I'm in someone's address book that is infected because I've gotten about 5 such emails in 2-3 days, mostly as returned mail. These emails have included other fanfic author addies who are not even in my address book.

I'm posting this to remind everyone to update their virus definitions or virus scan software, if you haven't done so recently. And to beware of returned mail with attachments since the worm does appear to be perstent and making the rounds with LFNer email addies.

This public service announcement is concluded. We now return you to your regularly scheduled nekkid Mikey viewing. ;)

Wow. This is such a pleasant surprise! Here I am researching for my long-time-coming paper on online fandoms and I come across a message board where I see some familiar "faces."

Some of your might remember me as Mona. I'm just dropping this line to say hello and how are ya. I'm finally about to graduate from college and am still living in DC. I moved in with my boy-toy of two years over the summer and we haven't killed one another as of yet - even though I torture him with late-night reruns of LFN :).

And I am writing my final paper for Digital Culture on the LFN online fandom! Which is how I stumbled across this board. Finally I get a chance to prove to the world that what we had/have is a valid anthropologically defined community! :-P Yup - still a big giant vinyal dressed nerd. Oh well.

I don't understand why the moved it from the weekly schedule at 1:00 a.m. I hope that after they finish the reruns of season 3, 4, and 5 they don't stop reruning the episodes. This show is why I still watch USA Network some. If, they take off the reruns I won't watch the network at all anymore. Also, I want to let you all know that I am putting some new pictures of things I have made on my website. The URL for the site is http://members.fortunecity.com/lafemmerin/. I just wanted to let all our Canadian friends know that I am so sorry that the US has such an incompetent military. I can't begin to express how horrible and sad I felt when I read about the bombing mistake.
I have 8 years active duty (first 4 in the Air Force and second in the Marine Corps) plus six in the reserves so I'm looking at it from not only the outside but the inside of the military. It seems the bigger our military gets, the worse it gets.
The newspaper I read here said 'at least one' bomb was mistakenly dropped. For gosh sakes, they don't even know how many??
These unacceptable mistakes are just one of the many reasons I chose to get out and not stay till retirement.
    I am truly sorry.

    1. I had never thought about it before, but it looks like Section takes up at least four levels. When Nikita goes to visit Birkoff -- as she walks down a hallway you see the number 4-___ (don't remember rest of number). I think this indicates the floor level. Also, when she is talking to Birkoff about his work she's says "I just know we need you back UPSTAIRS." Since we all know that recruits live at Section while training, and that Ops can call a close-quarters mission (where everyone stays at Section till the mission concludes) -- they have to be living someplace. I think that Section has one whole level devoted to living quarters. OR, one level for recruits and another level for Operatives (which would make better sense).

    2. Birkoff had a crush on Nikita!!! I think it's over now, but I bet he's carried the torch for quite a while. Matthew Ferguson plays the scene where he tries to hit on Nikita so well! The look on his face when he realizes that she thinks of him as a 'little brother' is priceless -- like "S**T!! I KNEW she was going to say that!" [Like he REALLY thought he had a chance while Michael is around! I think he just decided to 'strike while the iron was hot' -- and Nikita was feeling 'caring' -- the little devil!]

He kind of infers that the reason he lied about killing his sister (TOLD you he didn't) is that he wanted to 'impress' Nikita. Also, it seems that he STILL thinks that Nikita killed a cop. I bet that means that Section still has that down in her file (don't you KNOW that Birkoff has hacked into Nikita's fact file ((ESPECIALLY if he had a crush on her)) .., and I wonder if that means that the only person who knows (or cares for that matter) that Nikita didn't kill the cop is Michael, and maybe Madeline (but if Madeline knows, she's keeping it to herself for some reason). I don't think Ops knows (and he definitely doesn't care). [[Okay, this was before we saw Season Three that told us Nikita had been framed .., and that Operations and Madeline knew this info.]]

    3. OK, Chris Heyn has said that Birkoff is between 18-20. In "Noise," Nikita says that Birkoff has been at Section for 'seven years.' That means that he was recruited when he was between 11-13! This leads me to the following conclusions:

    (a) Birkoff doesn't have a family, or if he does, its like Nikita's 'family.' No way would any type of family (except for the most disfunctional) release a 11-13 child that, in essense, would disappear from their lives forever.

    (b) I think Birkoff is like the main character in the movie, "Hackers." I wonder if he was traced and arrested after he released a major computer virus, or caused a major computer crash .., something 'out of the ordinary' that would bring him to Section's attention? I do NOT think it had anything to do with murdering anyone. We can start to see how Section operates. They pull their needed 'specialists' from various places of correction (hackers probably from youth detention, for the most part; con artists/thieves from jails; killers from death row or lifers (which Nikita was)). I have noticed that most of their computer techs are young (except for Simon - SJOTW [Section Jerk of the Week], who isn't red-shirted, darn it (why do the jerks always live)?) [[Again, this was before we found out in Season Four that Birkoff and his 'twin' were born in Section.]]

    4. SECTION AND RELATIONSHIPS: Ok, at the end you see Birkoff make a date with another Section Operative (Gail). I've been thinking on the whole relationship thing and I've come to the following conclusion: Section doesn't condone PURELY sexual relationships. I think they DO encourage serious, monogamous relationships, which makes sense. The worst thing that can happen to any agency, armed forces, etc. -- and ESPECIALLY Section with its high head count of wackos -- is to have your operatives/workers/soldiers playing musical beds. This can lead to a host of bad feelings: jealousy, hatred, etc. But, if you condone and/or encourage long-term, serious relationships you have the other side of the coin -- where Operatives watch out for each other, are able to read each other in dangerous situations, etc. You know, like Michael and Nikita.

    NOTES OF INTEREST:

    5. The music played in the first scene is by the group Morcheeba. The song is "Tape Loop," and it can be found on Track #4 of their CD, "WHO CAN YOU TRUST?"

    6. Did you notice that the outfit Nikita wears in the above-noted scene (at the night club) is the exact outfit she wore on the Conan O'Brien show?

    Later,

    Karen (HayK)

    Melissa asked:

What the heck were all those stares about at the end of the ep
    between Maddy, Ops, and Nik?

Nikita was checking to make sure that Madeline and Ops had cleared Birkoff off 'held in abeyance.' The small nod from Madeline told her they had -- hense her return smile.

    Kelli wrote:

I loved this episode, but I am a little disapointed that they didn't explain how Birkoff got into the section. Oh well, another show perhaps. I just want to know, how old is Burkoff supossed to be. Nikita mentions that he hasn't been out of the section in 7 years.

Actually, our 'spy' in the producer's office (Chris Heyn) said that Birkoff was between 18-20. That means he came to Section between 11-13.

    Tarrant wrote:

Did anyone else notice that Birkoff seemed more concerned with being killed himself than with the fact that he had just killed someone for the first time? He was quick enough to lash out at Nikita in anger labelling her as a cold-blooded killer of a cop (even though we know she was falsely accused and didn't kill until being brought to the Section). But what really seemed to upset Birky was the fear of being hurt *himself*--he assumed the other agents would protect him!

Good catch! I didn't pick up on this, but you are right. This might be his age (as in lack thereof) showing. Also, Birkoff has been protected from the outside world for most of his life -- most of which he has only been concerned about himself, his computers and Section. He probably has a cyncial/analytical outlook on killing, having spent his 'formative' years around -- lets face it -- cold-blooded killers.

Nikita's morality seems more altruistic; she worries most about innocents being harmed. Her own death doesn't seem to scare her that much: "Death's easy--you don't have to do anything. It's life that's hard to face."

You must also remember that Nikita spent the same part of her life surviving on the streets, while Birkoff spent his being cocooned at Section. Nikita learned very early how easy it was to die -- and how HARD it was to live. I'm just surprised that she was able to keep so much humanity and concern for 'innocents' about her.

Which do you think preoccupies Michael, Madeline or Operations more (if *eithe r* does), having to kill others, or the possibility of being killed? And if it is *being* killed, is the underlying motivation personal fear, or loss of "material" to the Section?

I don't think they ever really think along these lines. I asked my 'expert' (i.e., father who is retired Navy pilot), and he said that if you thought about dying every time you went up you'd either go nuts or crash the plane. It was kind of interesting (and scary) listening to him talk about this subject. We were actually watching a WWII movie about a group of young, army GIs that were picked for this particular unit due to their high intelligence. Their commander, however, instead of accessing their intelligence sent them out as scouts (which had the highest number of casualties/deaths). Well, we were watching when my father noted that this scenario would never have happened "in the real Armed Forces." When I asked why, my by-the-book, always-follow-orders father informed me that the commander would just have been killed and listed as a sniper casualty! I'm sure glad he hadn't 'shared' these thoughts with me when I was a teenager. I would have gone around with expectations of being shot every time I angered him (which was around 85% - 90% of the time).

  • Need to vent about USA network -- Daishi, 00:48:14 03/31/02 Sun
I'm going to vent here about the USA network because I know everyone here will understand.
I have Jeeve's tours which brings up a different website everytime I log on according to my preferences I set. I have television as one of my preferences. Lo and behold tonight my starting page is the opening page for USA network. On the left they have quick links to a number of shows, some old and some new. They have both of the Law and Order series. I think they had Bloomberg television if I remember right. What gets me is they actually have Nash Bridges but not LFN. Now I like Nash Bridges (once in awhile) but I think LFN is a much better series. Again this is another case of them having opportunity to showcase a splendid series and they blew it. If done properly, they could have gained more viewers and fan base even though it's all reruns. Oh sure it's in the list when you click at the top of the page where it says "series" but why the H-E-double toothpicks (I won't use hockey sticks as I'm a hockey fanactic. Not fan but fanatic.) couldn't they have put it on the left as a quickie link??!! It's a rhetorical question but I just needed to vent, thanks.
I'm off to find a hockey tape with a lot of physicalness on it.

Do you miss LFN and all your LFN friends?
Come join us for Eurocon2002 in Helsinki this summer!

Back in August 2000, about 25 people of 8 different nationalities gathered in Paris for a fun-filled weekend meeting with fellow LFNers.
Now, the Finnish operatives of the Arctic Substation invite
all LFN fans from around the world to participate in 'Mission Finland'.

Location: Helsinki, the capital of Finland,
which used to - and who knows, might still be - a very busy spy city in RL. It's also where O'Brien supposedly died.

Date: Undecided as yet, but tentatively late July/August, over a weekend.

Please note that this is not your typical convention - for example, we don't expect to have any members of the cast or crew present.
Instead, this is your chance to spend time with other LFN fans and see a little bit of Finland, too.

If you're interested, please sign up to the 'Mission Finland' mailing list at
    www.smartgroups.com/groups/EuroCon.

If you have any problems signing up email us at EuroCon2002@jippii.fi

    Hello,

I am writing a script for a television show that I am going to submit to an agent. I was thinking about editing a picture of the rectangluar opening type thing up above, Walter's work area from the main area of Section. I was thinking of editing it and adding what I made or wanted to add to it. Then making it into a photo to use with my television script. But, I have had doubts about using the picture, because I legal reason. I was wondering if anyone had some facts or advice about it.

  • Question for Those Who Speak French -- PJ, 13:07:41 02/21/02 Thu
Many years ago when my dad was in France for a business trip, he purchased a large clock that was made in the 1700s...it's totally Y2K compliant because it works on weights. He was told that it was made to commemorate the Battle of Minden. There are hammered peacocks, roses, and a lyre. Anyway, there are some words on the clock and I've always wondered what they said, so I'm appealing to you for help!

Hammered in one place it says "DEPUSE." On the face of the clock above the hands it says, "CENDRIER" and below the hands is written, "a La Chatre." There are some accents(?)above some letters, but I don't know how to type them. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated...I only wish I would have thought to find this out before my dad passed away so that I could tell him.

In Le Journal de Montreal, there's an article and a pic of Roy Dupuis concerning his new film project in English called "The United States of Albert", set in 1926 on board a train. His character's name is Jack Decker and he's a golfer, who perfumes his golf balls (which mean's his role is either eccentric or visually impaired -- perhaps both). The title character Albert is a young actor being tutored by a theater teacher in Montreal. 1926 is the year Rudolph Valentino died and Albert wants to become the next Valentino, so he hops aboard a train bound for Los Angeles. There he encounters Jack Decker (Roy Dupuis) and the film tells the story of their journey.

  • A Big, Big favor -- Erin Goeller, 02:08:18 02/22/02 Fri
    Hello,

I was watching and recording certain parts of the LFN episode "Inside Out." I meant to record the scene in which it goes to the hall way where the entrance is and you see the shield and all the bodies, then Michael and Nikita approach it, and Nikita is looking in. I want to get this one scene on tape and I missed it. I didn't get to record it. By the time, because of my mistake I suddenly realize, it was at the part where Michael is telling Birkoff that he needs all the help he can get. I am so mad at myself and I felt like I could just cry. I was wondering if anyone could do me a big favor and make me a tape of just that scene. I would truly really appreciate and it would make me so happy. If anyone can do this for me, please, please post a reply.

I really miss LFN. I watch the episodes I have on tape alot. Recently, I have been watching one of my favorite episodes, "Inside Out." When, I see Michael in the van, sometimes I think how after the mission he is going home to Elena, and that is why he can't be with Nikita. Also, I was wondering if anyone has heard about them doing an LFN television movie anytime soon. This way they can remedie how they let the fans down with not having Michael and Nikita go off together. I have read synopsis's of the last episode and how they say I love you to each other and then Michael leaves to go raise Adam. I think that part is great, but I can't bring myself to watch it because when I even think about the ending, I start crying really bad. I wrote a script for a television movie of LFN or a new show where they use the Section Compound and it is empty. At least, it would take place in the compound that used to belong to Section One. I am thinking about sending my synopsis or story to an agent. I would welcome thoughts on this. I really want them to make a television movie of it soon to finally put Michael and Nikita together, like it should be. Also, does anyone know if RD is still dating Celine Bonnier?

Cyberpresse.ca hosted a chat today with Charles Biname, director of Seraphin, Blanche, and Chili's Blues. I attended the chat and have translated relevant portions of it from the original French.

CB: Seraphin is still in production. There are a few days of filming remaining, and the editing is almost finished.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Susan W: I hope to see Seraphin in the United States.
    CB: No, Seraphin will not be coming out in the United States. It's a film which has been made in French and unless the Americans put out an original, subtitled version,which is extremely rare, it will be necessary to see it on our Quebec screens in November, 2002.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Susan: [another Susan, not me!] (Please excuse me: I am English and I don't have the accents here) What are your impressions of working with Roy Dupuis: Seraphin, and the other projects before Seraphin?

CB: He is an extraordinary actor. This has been for me, for this filming of Seraphin, a rediscovery. He is an actor with whom I have already filmed two productions, and I have rediscovered a transformed human being. As an actor, he is very generous; he searches, with a lot of integrity, for the accuracy and the foundations of his characters.

Roy asked that a few things from the L'Actualite article to be clarified. He respects the writer, however, Roy felt that the following areas were not portrayed correctly:

When questioned, Roy did not wish to discuss his relationship with his father. The writer went to a another source, who incorrectly stated that Roy's father had "no sense of family" and that his father was an alcoholic.
Roy specifically stated that his father was not an alcoholic. His father did carry a sadness with him, but his family was very important to him. He did
    give a "sense of family".

The article talks about Roy not writing back to his fans. Roy's answer "they don't know me", was not in reference to his writing back to the fans. It was a reply to another question. Roy says he receives a great deal of mail, which he opens and reads himself. It would be difficult to respond to all of it and does not choose to single out anyone.

  • LCA part four -- Shirleym, 00:14:33 01/25/02 Fri

    Well...
let's see, where was I before I was so rudely interrupted by the big move...

    Ah yes,
It was Sunday, the last day of LCA and they were auctioning off some LFN things. This is what I'd been waiting for. I was hoping to get the graffiti jeans jacket that Nikita wore when she and Michael put the wedding rings on in Love, but I was seriously outbid on that one. They went through a lot of clothing from the show (Carlo Rota dancing around holding a long chiffon dress to his chest while delicately holding one of the sides of the skirt part out is an image I'll never forget).

But before I get too far into this part, I should tell you that I wrote to the people at LCA a few months ago (before the auction) and told them that if they could find that eyeball ring that Roy wore in Love, I'd pay BIG bucks for it. I've been curious about that ring ever since I saw that episode. Was it Roy's? Did some wardrobe person come up with a ring THAT small for him? WHERE did it come from and HOW could I get my hands on it???

    Ok, back to the report.
After quite a bit of LFN auctioning, a woman showed up to auction off a surprise item. The woman turned out to be (I think) the assistant wardrobe person on LFN? (Wintor, I'm sure you must know who I'm talking about)... and she has a nickname everybody calls her, (was it "Chuck"?) which escapes me at the moment. Anyway, I think she might actually be shorter than *I* am. She'd brought with her a pendant that had apparently been designed by Peta or that Peta had had made up. It seems she'd had a few made for some of the people who'd taken care of her on the show as a remembrance. It was made of crystal and sterling silver and "Nikita" was etched in script on the silver part. I asked to hold it and it felt so good that I ended up bidding on it and getting it. I'm so thrilled to have it. Although I'm COO COO for coco pu - er... Roy, Peta's portrayal of Nikita also changed my life tremendously and I'll never forget that. I spent $740 Canadian on that pendant and the woman who'd brought it was so thrilled at the amount of money it has raised for charity that she ran over to me, put the pendant around my neck, sat on my lap and gave me a big hug! LOL

And what did I say to her?...

I said, "Since I have you right here on my lap, could you tell me where that eyeball ring from Love came from?"

I know, I know - you can't take me ANYwhere... but you know, nothing goes with a crystal pendant like an eyeball ring. ;P

Anyway, I was just thrilled with that pendant (still am) and later, just before she left I did get a chance to talk to her about the ring in more detail. She thought back really hard, but didn't remember any ring like that, so I'm leaning towards thinking it was probably Roy's. I'll find out someday. Failure is NOT an option. Yes, I can see it now - Roy will be sitting in my lap and what will I say to him? LOLOL!

The next morning, we were all eating breakfast in the hotel waiting for Nigel Bennet to show up and Jayne L'argent (the chairwoman of LCA) came in to announce how much the auction had made for the two charities; Canine Companions for Independence and KYTES (Kensington Youth Theatre & Employment Skills). KYTES "uses popular theatre as part of a comprehensive program to assist disadvantaged and street-involved youth in acheiving self-sufficiency as well as personal and social change." I thought about how right up Peta's alley that charity is and how she had wanted to do something similar for kids who were having problems.

Jayne told us that she'd called the charities that morning to tell them how much they would be receiving and said that when she talked to KYTES, the woman there was reduced to tears of joy, saying that their funding had just been cut off and they had been ready to close their doors in a couple of weeks, but that with the money we'd raised, they would be able to stay open for another year.

So Peta's pendant ended up doing a wonderful thing for something that Peta herself believes in very strongly and I couldn't be happier about that. :D

I didn't have time to stay at the breakfast long enough to wait for NB, because L, Minuet and I had to get going for the long drive home. We made a quick stop at a Starbucks and bumped into Alberta Watson LOL (This world's a small place, isn't it?) and then we were on our way home with lots of happy memories.

Can't wait to go again this year.

  • The Golden Globes -- Susan W., 23:54:23 01/20/02 Sun

It's been a good year for spy shows, with Kiefer Sutherland taking the award for best actor in a T.V. series, drama for his work in "24", and Jennifer Garner doing likewise as the lead actress for "Alias".

Kiefer, looking tan and fit, accepted his award saying, "I'd like to thank Joel [Surnow] and Bob [Cochran] for what they've done with the show." He also expressed his gratitude to Fox for being "very supportive" (a sentiment echoed by Nicole Kidman, accepting best actress in a comedy or musical for "Moulin Rouge").

Jennifer Garner, looking lovely in a simple, sleeveless, floor-length red sheath, seemed surprised at her win. She began her charming acceptance speech in a humorous vein, stating that, "I'm really glad I had the first cup of wine...but I'm regretting the second!" She continued, speaking jokingly to TPTB that hired her, "I don't know why you cast me in this role, I don't know why you thought I could do it... (thinking)...I *know* I was good in "Dude, Where's My Car"...but seriously...". She continued on, mentioning that she had met her husband through working on the show, and also thanking her mom and dad back in West Virginia. She seems like a very grounded young woman. Okay, how many of you were picturing Peta up there, in some sort of alternate universe? :-)

Unfortunately, both "24" and "Alias" lost out on best T.V. series, drama to "Six Feet Under". It was a highly competitive field, with "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", and "The West Wing" also in the running. I thought that you could make a case for any of those shows, but I really, really thought that "24" would get it due to the excellent reviews it has been receiving. :-/ Either the critics wanted to spread the wealth, or perhaps they wanted to reward a show that takes significant risks and is decidedly quirky.

One of my favorite actors, Ralph Fiennes, made an appearance as a presenter, looking very fine in his excellent fitting evening clothes, and manfully trying his best to flash that beautiful smile (under direct orders from his agent, who knows what he's about ;-) .

Starz site http://starzsuperpak.com has a trailer up for Joe and Max. My compter freezes the frame after the first 10 seconds so I don't know if there is a glimpse of Peta, I can hear the rest of the trailer, and you don't hear her. Also if you click on the Joe and Max box in the lower right hand corner, you can get to the press kit with production notes and cast biographies, synopses etc.

  • Question for Susan W. -- Erin Goeller, 11:43:00 01/22/02 Tue
Hello, Susan! I am sure you have seen my post about the fanart I have made and how I am trying to finish making a webpage for it. I was wondering if you thought any fans would actually want one of the fanart things I made. Or if they probably just want to look at it on the page. I would value another fans opinion. If you would like me to send you what I made that I am talking about, I would be willing because I would like to know another fans opinion. That is if you are interested in seeing what I made. Or if you just want to wait until the page is up and running that is fine.

  • Something that LFN fans might be interested to know about -- Erin Goeller, 16:20:32 01/17/02 Thu
I am still working on getting my LFN Fanart page up and running. I wanted to let you all know that I made something else recently, that was inspired by LFN. It is a cutout of a blueprint for a storm cellar, I made out of waxpaper. I made it out of wax paper to show how the wind can really affect things and as a model for how thick a storm cellar really should be. It has wrinkles and looks like the wind affected it. I consider it to be something unusual that you would see on a show like LFN. I can even imagine the character of Birkoff studying it. If anyone would like me to make on for you, I would be glad to. Just let me know.
P.S. If you want a visual picture of it in your mind, think of it as a square with a slant made out of many layers of wax paper. Then think of how the wind would effect it and the wrinkles kind of stretch upward kind of pulled outward. That is really the best I can describe it.

  • Getting Settled -- Shirleym, 12:10:47 01/12/02 Sat

    Happy New Year, everybody!! :D

Shirlhub and I are finally getting settled in a new home in Northeastern Pennsylvania with a new e-mail addy which I'll be sending out soon. No sooner did we get moved in than they dumped a *foot* of snow on us. But does that bother me? Noooooooooooo, I just consider myself a {{{"FEMMMME DU NOOOOOOOORD"}}} ;)

Now and can start reading the board again. (Yeah! :D) Ooooh, Defi Vision sounds like a lot of fun.

I have a question from my friend in Japan. It seems she sent in a money order for her pre-ordered Chris Heyn book, "Inside Section One", but never got notification that it was received. Does anyone have an address where one can e-mail specifically about the book orders?

  • Happy New Year! -- Susan W, 22:26:30 01/01/02 Tue

Happy New Year to all LFN'ers! May 2002 bring to each and every one of you peace, prosperity, and happiness.

Someone on the T.V. yesterday was talking about 2001's high points and low points. And that got me to thinking--what were my own personal high points for the year? I would have to have on my list the pleasure that I got from seeing the fans prevail to get a partial fifth season of LFN...including some encore performances by our very own spyguy. The vastly improved series ending was a highlight as well. I also really enjoyed my fourth (!) trip up to Toronto for the swan song in the CQS series of fan conferences.

Getting together with family and friends is also important to me, and I particularly enjoyed this Thanksgiving. I've had a blast going to Ravens football games with my adored older brother--nothing can rock like an NFL stadium! And my buddy Mary and I went to see (yet another) Titanic exhibit this summer--I am very interested in shipwrecks, particularly the Titanic, so I grab any chance I can get to go look at artifacts.

I have also enjoyed "performing" and doing well for the visiting hordes of principals that come to our school--in December, I had about a dozen higher-ups at one time in my classroom, and fortunately for me, my kids like to show off, too! :-) I also liked the Palm Pilot that I was given this summer, as a bonus for grading a gazillion tests. I know perks like that are common in private industry, but they are rare for those of us in the public sector....and the recognition felt great.

What were your own personal high points?

  • Housekeeping -- Susan W, 15:11:09 01/13/02 Sun

    ...No, not that housekeeping! ;-)

Voy.com is currently beta-testing a software upgrade for their message boards, and they are warning that when they implement it, the appearance of some boards may change. So this is just a little warning that if the MB suddenly looks different...be patient...and I will try to fix it as best I can. Voy is also trying to reduce usage of bandwidth, so I have cut back just a bit on the length of the main page, and added more capacity for archive pages. I will probaby cut the main page back a little furthur, so if you would like to give some feedback about how long you would like it to be, feel free. A shorter page means a faster loading time, of course (although it doesn't seem that bad now, even with my slow-as-a-tortoise modem).

Overall, I like Voy a great deal--it seems a lot more stable than the old ITW. I hope that they're around for a long time.
