    Been catching the Witchblade eps as much as possible to catch a glimpse of Ops perch and to see how they've reworked other LFN things. Did anyone else see last night's season finale? Wow...I wish the writers would have done that for LFN! Would have taken care of a lot of corners that they wrote themselves into. TNT will be pulling another LFN copycat, IMHO, by showing all 12 Witchblade eps in a row on Sunday. I haven't been taken in by this show like I was by LFN, but it is an interesting diversion.

  • The slate is wiped clean -- Susan W., 23:50:22 08/26/01 Sun

    It was brought to my attention recently that some people feel that they can't post (or respond to posts) on this board because they were banned over at Susan Hargrove's LFN message board. *This is simply not true, folks!* The slate is wiped clean. One of the things that I wanted to accomplish by establishing this new board was to give our community a fresh start. If you are willing to abide by the board's guidelines (the main one of which is to not flame your fellow board members and/or fans), then you are welcome to post here. If I have a problem with a post (that is not obviously meant to start a flame war), I will make every effort to work it out with you privately via e-mail. So, if you've been hanging out on the sidelines, don't hesitate to dive right into "the sandbox"--and welcome back!

    I'll put a little more detailed info on the guidelines in the reply.

  • This and that -- Susan W., 14:41:07 08/21/01 Tue
    I'm bringing over little bits of intel from HH and MO. Per ozelle, the August 20th issue of Playback says that filming of The Last Chapter has moved to the lovely, scenic Prince Edward Island on Canada's Atlantic coast. What a great spot for a late summer shoot! According to Brown Eyes, Matthew Ferguson's latest project, "Hypercube: Cube 2" just started production. Visit her link over at HH if you would like a current addy for Matthew in order to send him some words of encouragement. Cathy Atkinson writes that that Mutant X shows will include LFN directors Jon Cassar ("Love", "Hard Landing", "Looking for Michael", etc.) and T.J. Scott ("Obsessed", "Noise", etc.) It's already been sold in 146 U.S. markets, including (according to Dee) Chicago's WGN, which is currently running promos for the show. Dee said that some of Rocco Matteo's sets for M-X are reminiscent of his work for LFN. Cathy also mentions that LFN writer Peter Lenkov, who is coproducing and writing for the new series "Tracker", starring the very hunky Adrian Paul, is doling out bits of intel at his messageboard at www.peterlenkov.com . Playbackmag.com also reports that Nikita creator Luc Besson's new action movie "Kiss of the Dragon", starring Jet Li, "Nikita" veteran Tcheky Karyo, and "Point of No Return" veteran Bridget Fonda, is doing very well in France, having sold half a million tickets in its first week of release there. It is currently at selected theatres in the U.S.

    Hi!
    there are news on the last chapter...unfortunately they are in french..... i didn't know that Celine was part of the serie..,

    here's the article: http://radio-canada.ca/television/rentree2001/resumes.html#chapitre

  • How To Go To An LFN Con (Susan W, you're post brought back so many memories...) (r) -- Shirleym, 01:03:49 08/12/01 Sun
    How to go to an LFN convention:

    Fill L's car with costumes for the banquet performance, food, bottled water, and mugs and T-shirts for the charity auction.

    Pick something light to talk about on the long drive. Something like... oh... say... the intrinsic good and evil of man and woman as portrayed so beautifully by RD and Peta in LFN. :P

    As the trusted co-pilot, be sure to fall asleep at exactly the point when L needs you the most.

    Be sure to both drink mass quantities of liquids before and on the drive, so your bladders will be bursting at *just* about the time when there's NO place to go to the bathroom.

    Heave a big sigh of relief when you get to Toronto and while on the highway there, change lanes frequently.

    Keep changing lanes all the way to your hotel. (I don't KNOW why, ok??!!)

    See the tiny little bridge where Michael "went dark" on his motorcycle, evading davenport and Section. (yeeee hawwww! :D)

    Dance to "Manana" with the kitchen staff.

    Sing The Maddy to Alberta Watson in the back hallway with SCC and L, dressed in a kilt, a swan lake costume, and a tutu with handcuff belt and combat boots.

    Bid on a bunch of stuff at the charity auction and end up with a nice purchase for $100 Canadian.

    Go along with Minuet and L as they return Carlo Rota's hat (it got lost at the con) to him and watch him do the worker bee dance for you to enhance his flawless directions to a
    nice restaurant in the Italian section.

    Drive home from the con exhausted, but happy and buy 10 Lindt chocolate bars with Cointreau Liqueur in them at the duty free shop.

    Go through customs and have the woman in the booth tell you you'll both have to go see a custom's officer.

    Hope to GOD he doesn't ask you what you bought in Toronto.

    Customs officer to L:
    Ok, ma'am, how much did you spend on purchases on your stay in Canada and what did
    you buy?

    L: Well, I bought a painting... and a shirt... and some things at the duty free shop.

    Customs officer looking at me:
    Ok... and you ma'am?

    Me (looking for the nearest hole to crawl into):

    Umm... well... I bought a refrigerator magnet of an actor for $100.

    (Hoping against hope, but seeing that the officer IS about to ask why a refrigerator magnet would cost $100):

    And... well you see, it was a charity auction and the actor is naked...
    and has all these little... um... (Oh God, just let me die NOW)...
    shorts and things you can put on him...

    (Officer looking like I have three heads)

    ... You know...
    ...like a paper doll??? (:*

    *
    *
    *
    *

    Start laughing uncontrollably as soon as you're both back in the car.

    As you leave beautiful Canada, listen to a tape of Roch Voisine music and cry your little eyes out, knowing you'll never EVER have this much fun again.

    (Sigh)

  • Remember Nikita with Quinn's voice? well... (I've edited this article quite a bit.) -- Shirleym, 10:55:01 08/02/01 Thu

    Software Is Called Capable of Copying Any Human
    Voice

    By LISA GUERNSEY

    AT&T Labs will start selling speech software that it says is so good at reproducing the sounds, inflections and intonations of a human voice that it can recreate voices and
    even bring the voices of long-dead celebrities back to life. The software, which turns printed text into synthesized speech, makes it possible for a company to use
    recordings of a person's voice to utter things that the person never actually said.

    The software, called Natural Voices, is not flawless — its utterances still contain a few robotic tones and unnatural inflections — and competitors question whether the
    software is a substantial step up from existing products. But some of those who have tested the technology say it is the first text-to-speech software to raise the specter of
    voice cloning, replicating a person's voice so perfectly that the human ear cannot tell the difference.

    James R. Fruchterman, the chief executive of Benetech, a nonprofit organization that uses technology in social-service projects, tested the software along with a dozen people who evaluate technology for blind people, and they were impressed. "Natural Voices gets into the gray area," he said, "where there is plausible deniability that it is a machine."

  • CQS4 Panels: Rene Bonniere and Pam Simons -- Susan W., 22:14:42 08/08/01 Wed

    Back to my continuing series.

    This turned out to be my favorite panel of CQS4, but here's the rub: I only saw half of it. As wonderful as the food was in the restaurant, the service, especially for this particular meal that I was eating, was abysmally slow. So afterward, after pausing to introduce myself to Babe of the HH board, I raced back to the auditorium and slid into an empty seat just off of the main aisle toward the rear of the room.

    Rene Bonniere and Pam Simons were up on the dais. Mr. Bonniere, as everyone respectfully called him, has been widely admired for his directing work on LFN. He was not only appearing at the con, but had also been quite visibly *attending* the con, having been seen at Don's concert and several of the other panels. Doug MacRae had originally been scheduled to appear alongside him, but for some reason was not present. Instead, Pam Simons, the production coordinator for LFN, was sharing the panel. Pam, who had worked with Don Francks, David Hemblen, and Maury Chakin on various projects before LFN, acted as the day to day schedule keeper and trouble-shooter for the show.

    I started listening intently. Someone in the audience had asked Mr. Bonniere if he kept the audience in mind as he directed an episode. Reflecting on the director's job, he responded: "Thinking about the audience is essential...[but] at the same time, there is a decision to make." Then, in response to another query, both he and Pam talked about their deep respect for producer Jamie Paul Rock. Pam said that about 70% of the technical crew followed Jamie to the "Mutant X" project (some familiar names on that project include Rocco Matteo, Laurie Drew, film editor David B.Thompson, Doug MacRae, along with many keys, grips, etc. Jay Firestone is one of the executive producers.) Pam said the reason that Jamie is accorded such loyalty is that, "He really looks out for us." Rene interjected: "Jamie is really an extrordinary producer." Pam continued, "...and always the sense of humor...when you work 16 hour days, you have to have a sense of humor."

    While their comments were of interest, I felt a growing sense of agitation. I turned to the fan seated to the left of me and asked urgently, "Has anyone asked him about 'War' yet?" No, she replied. I was stunned. I tried again: "Not Was?...Half Life?" She shook her head in response. My head was swimming...clearly this situation needed to be rectified. I was moved to do something that I hadn't done in a *very* long time: I got into the microphone line! :-)

    When it was my turn, I complimented Mr. Bonniere on his directing, particularly for the episode "War". I talked about how I thought the lighting, visual references, and deliberately dark atmosphere were extraordinary, specifically mentioning his collaboration with director of photography Nikos Evdemon (on his first assignment with the show). Mr. Bonniere's face lit up, and he spoke with enthusiasm about their work together. I complimented Mr. Bonniere on his ability to evoke nuanced, memorable performances from the show's actors. Hogging the mike a bit, I asked him if the decision to have Roy Dupuis behave like a vulnerable, innocent tabula rasa in "Not Was" resulted from his choice, Roy's choice, or a meeting of the two minds. [Writer's note: Okay, I confess. I was looking for a Roy story. Mr. Bonniere, being a good sport and nobody's fool, gracefully obliged.] He stated: "You can't tell Roy to do anything...you can suggest...and *react*...he watches the reaction. You are the first audience...I ask myself...do I believe that?" Very well satisfied by this response, I thanked him and finally relinquished the mike. Later, a number of people told me that in expressing my appreciation for his work, I had spoken for them as well.

    Later, Mr. Bonniere reflected, "If you don't have it [the scene] by the third take--there might be something wrong with the scene."

    Well, that was another lovely LFN auction. Thanks to all who were involved. I can't even begin to imagine how much work it must be to put an auction on line.

    While I was bidding, (I got a copy of the international master of Michael sucking his arm! :D yeee hawwwwwww!) I was also making a tape for the arts festival we're having in my community in August. I have the misfortune to be on the "recreation committee" which, for those who know me, is about the furthest thing from who I am as you can get. Not that I don't recreate. (snarkle) :P It's just that I really couldn't care less if we have more recreation here than nature can provide... unless we could get some tai chi classes going in the winter... Anyway, the art show is always nice and I'm glad they do it.

    So I'm sitting on this committee last month and they're talking about the show and the music for it and I say, "Excuse me, but please don't let what usually happens with the music happen this year - you know where they get some "DJ" who plays music that only a 12 to 16 year old adolescent male could appreciate".

    They all gave me blank stares and told me I was in charge of the music.

    So... I'm making the tape. It's got all kinds of things on it from pop to jazz to classical to latin. And then at the end of the side A there was about a five minute space left, so I put in "Lab Nerds" (music from when Nikita and Michael are after the Gandium (and each other) at the Genefex? building) and the very end of the music from the Hard Landing why-didn't-you-let-me-know-you-were-alive scene. The music's from Sean Callery's CD. >:)
    It doesn't go with the rest of the music on the tape, but I just couldn't resist! LOL

    If anyone recognizes it, I'll eat Roy's straw hat. >:P~~~~~~~

  • LFN Cruise -- Susan W, 22:55:43 07/26/01 Thu
    On behalf of the Florida LFN fans, Jeana Davis is organizing a "La Femme Nikita" fan cruise abord the Carnival Cruise Line ship "Fantasy" for Thursday, January 24th through Sunday, January 27th, 2002. The ship will depart from Port Canaveral, Florida, and will travel to Nassau, The Bahamas. The prices are quite reasonable with an inside double going for $360 pp, and an outside ocean-view double going for $400 pp (taxes, airfare, etc. extra). Special guest Don Francks (barring professional commitments) will be joining in on the fun.

    For more information, including registration, please see:

    Oversight/LFN Cruise 2002

    I probably will be passing on this, as I need to give my bank account a rest, but I think that it's a *great* idea that LFN fans are still getting together--and especially for something as fun as a cruise! I wish Jeana every success with this, and I'll be looking forward to the "field reports" from our ocean-going operatives in 2002.

  • CQS4/The action in the lobby -- Susan W, 23:30:29 07/29/01 Sun
    Yes, it's true!--that I plan on finishing this series some time before the next ice age sets in.

    I last left off with the panel that featured Lawrence Bayne, Cindy Dolenc, Douglas O'Keefe, and Stephen Shellen. At this point, it was early afternoon, and I had a rather horrible decision to make. You see, the panels were being run without interruption, and I was beginning to get some rather urgent messages from my stomach. Since this was my fourth con, I decided to take a more civilized approach to the whole LFN con experience and...eat actual meals!...get a decent night's sleep! (Surprising, but true. Okay, okay...it also had something to do with the fact that many of my ususal drinking buddies were ABSENT from this particular con...you know who you are...*SNARL*! ;-) But truth to tell, I was probably a better person and a happier camper for having lightened up considerably on the booze, not to mention more coherent and less hung over, besides...) So, in due consideration of the fact that there was a delicious chicken and mango salad with my name on it waiting for me in the restaurant, I reluctantly decided to forgo the music panel with Sean Callery and Blaine Johnson. :-( I had seen both of them last year, and couldn't say the same for the preceeding or following panels, so that was that.

    HOWEVER, both Sean and Blaine spent considerable time out in the lobby at various points afterward, signing Sean's CD, so (as consolation), I did get to see them there. Blaine was signing somewhat under protest, as I think that he really did not want to steal Sean's thunder, but the fans were having none of it--we wanted both signatures, and so Blaine gracefully obliged. Thanks, guys!

    At one point or another during the weekend, I saw the following people:

    MIRA had a prime spot out in the spacious hallway (room to maneuver--now *that* was a change from the Marriott), and the guys were doing a brisk business selling really adorable mousepads with pictures of roly-poly puppies and signed by his royal gorgeousness, of course. If I remember correctly, they were a bargain at $27 U.S., $40 CAD. I believe that they had t-shirts as well. Dawn Connolly was back with her "La Femme Peta" book, also doing well. Raven Mc had a selection of really good looking R.D. keychains, and since I didn't move *quite* quickly enough, I had to backorder a couple of the same (...and it was sooo hard to choose). Chris Heyn had a sample chapter from his forthcoming book, and he was patiently explaining why we would all have to wait to order same. I was very happy to see him once again at a CQS event. Doug MacRae was way off to the right with his own supply of mousepads, happy to talk with friends and fans alike. Alberta Watson, absolutely glowing, was busy signing autographs in a little
    out-of-the-way nook for a never ending line of well wishers--and the cool thing was that you could stand in front of her table and take in the whole scene, which I did.

    Next up: René Bonnière's panel. :-)

  • OT/Movie: "The Score" -- Susan W, 21:17:25 07/22/01 Sun
    I saw a terrific movie this weekend that I think would be of interest to LFN fans. It's called "The Score", and it stars some of the heavyweights of the acting world: Robert DeNiro, Marlon Brando, and Edward Norton, along with Angela Bassett. It's a thriller themed around a burglary ring trying to pull off an enormous heist. Has anyone else seen it?

    The script is great, and the actors obviously had a blast interpreting their roles and playing off of one another. I think that LFN'ers in particular would enjoy it because (for one thing), it is set in Montreal. Angela Bassett said in an interview that the director tried to avoid the ususal touristy shots in favor of more typical views of the city. I think that he succeeded wildly--the city appears to be so interesting and charming, that it makes you want to pack your bags and go there right NOW, s'il vous plaît! (It did make me wonder why Hollywood has pretty much ignored Montreal and Quebec City as filming locations.) DeNiro, playing the master thief, has a stunning apartment in the movie that struck me as being *just perfect* for our favorite green-eyed Montrealer. And gee, if R.D. had his choice of current Brando movies in which to appear, I sure wish it could have been this one--right on his back doorstep, too.

    The other reason why LFN'ers might find film of interest is the manner in which DeNiro's character carries out the big heist (in the Montreal Customs House, no less)--believe me, Section ops have nothing on this guy--he even dresses the part. It really reminded me of one LFN episode in particular, with more bells and whistles added, of course. And in the best LFN tradition, there are even some interesting twists to the story.

    One caveat--Edward Norton, as his cover, impersonates a mentally retarded man, and I could see that some viewers might find that offensive. I thought that his performance was brilliant, however--IMO it is deserving of being nominated for various acting awards. Angela Bassett does a very competent job as the thief's girlfriend, and I was happy to see her getting the work that she deserves--but to be honest, I would have been equally happy if the role had gone to a French-Canadian actress.

  • La Femme Nikita the movie voted Movie of the day by IMDB.com -- Richiey, 15:39:37 07/24/01 Tue
    IMDb MOVIE OF THE DAY

    Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita is ludicrous (I disagree!). It is stylish and slick, hip and post-punk, violent and sentimental, full of cheesy music and bad haircuts (okay that's true)--very, very French. It is also, if you will pardon the colloquialism, awesome! Nikita (Anne Parillaud) is a street junkie, amoral and feral, so much so that she seems inhuman. Sentenced to death for killing a cop, she finds herself instead in the care of a secret government program where she is to be trained as an assassin. Her keeper Bob (Tchéky Karyo) looks on (with growing love) as her will is broken and she is taught to be
    both deadly and feminine (French legend and once-sex-symbol Jeanne Moreau guides her through this latter process). When she is released, she discovers that her new femininity is a double-edged sword--she falls promptly in love with a grocery clerk (Jean-Hugues Anglade), but is repeatedly called upon for "missions" and forced to deceive him. Surprisingly touching, the film ends on a melancholy, thoughtful note. Watch for a priceless cameo by Jean
    Reno as The Cleaner, a role he would reprise for Besson in the equally awe-inspiring The Professional.

    Please excuse my comments. ;-)

  • Virus Alert - W32.Sircam.Worm@mm -- Lady Aeval, 12:21:52 07/24/01 Tue
    There is a worm - W32.Sircam.Worm@mm - that is currently going around. There are 2 threats from this worm:

    1. For those using Outlook, the worm will send an e-mail to everyone in your address book.

    2. If you detach the document, it will infect the machine that you detach/save it to. In other words, if you save it to a pc/server/disk - it will infect it.

    So far, the virus is coming with documents that have the extensions of .att, .lnk, .doc, .bat, .com, .pif. This worm is changing, so this file list may be growing. Please make sure that your anti-virus is up-to-date.

    If you get an e-mail with any of those above and you don't know who they are from, delete it. If you are infected, you more than likely will have to re-image your machine (which means reinstalling eveything). There is another fix on the Norton site that has you go into your machine's registry. I would not recommend doing that unless you are a computer tech.

    From the Norton Anti-Virus site

    This worm arrives as an email message with the following content:

    Subject: The subject of the email will be random, and could be the same as the file name of the attachment in the email.

    Attachment: The attachment will be a file taken from the sender's computer and will have the extension .bat, .com, .lnk or .pif added to it.

    Message: The message body will be semi-random, but will always contain one of the following two lines (either English or Spanish) as the first and last sentences of the message.

    Spanish Version:
    First line: Hola como estas ?
    Last line: Nos vemos pronto, gracias.

    English Version:
    First line: Hi! How are you?
    Last line: See you later. Thanks

    Between these two sentences, some of the following text may appear:

    Spanish Version:
    Te mando este archivo para que me des tu punto de vista
    Espero me puedas ayudar con el archivo que te mando
    Espero te guste este archivo que te mando
    Este es el archivo con la informaci=n que me pediste

  • 2001 LFN Online Auction -- Christine, 16:26:04 07/20/01 Fri
    This is an online auction of items that were donated for the CQS4 Charity Auction. Due to time constraints, not all items were offered at the event.

    I am posting the rules early so that you have a chance to review them. The auction does not start until July 21, 2001. (As Michael would say, be patient )

    1)The auction officially commences at 9AM EDT on July 21, 2001 (that will be 6AM PDT) and concludes at 9PM EDT (that would be 6 PM PDT) on July 28, 2001 based upon the message board's automatic time stamp. The message board's time stamp may not be absolutely accurate, but this is the time we are going by, so please set your clock by it.
    IMPORTANT RULE: The last officially bids must be placed no later than 9:00:00 PM (that will be 6:00:00 PM PDT).

    2)Registration: You will need to register for this message board to place bids. There is a link to "register" in the upper right of your screen. Please click on that link and follow the directions. The only information you are required to enter is your screen name/code name and a valid e-mail address. Anything else is optional. You will be given the option to block your e-mail address from public view if you choose. Your IP number is logged by the board but is not on display to the public. You will then need to use the screen name and the password you chose each time you post to the auction board. If your browser accepts cookies, the board can save your login information for you if you choose that option. If you have difficulty registering, please e-mail Christine for assistance. It is extremely important that you provide a valid e-mail address; if we cannot contact you, your bids will be invalidated. If you registered for any of our previous auctions, or to use the EZboards in general, you are still registered and do not need to repeat the process.

    3) BIDDING: All bidding will be made in American dollars; however bidding is open to everyone and we can ship internationally. You must be 18 or older to bid. Official bids must be posted to the LFN Online Charity Auction Board. Bids only, listing your internet name/codename and email address, will be accepted at this board. Bids must be made in increments of $5.00. If you raise a bid by any amount other than a $5.00 increment, the previous bid prevails until the bidding has raised the item price by a $5.00 increment. Example: The bid is at $20. You may bid $25 or $30 or $35, and so on. The increase must be divisible by $5. If you have any questions about the auction rules, they may be directed to Joyce Wolf, or if you need help with the technical details of bidding, please e-mail Christine Ortega. Anything that is not a bid in the auction forums will be deleted. All bids must be made in U.S. dollars. If you win one of the items, you will be notified shortly after the conclusion of the auction with information about where to send payment and how much shipping charges will be.

    4) Internet Difficulties: The Internet is an unstable medium. You may experience difficulties or delays in posting due to problems that may emanate from your ISP/computer or ours. We will make every effort to ensure that the board operates as efficiently as possible; however by participating in this auction you agree not to hold liable Joyce Wolf, Christine Ortega, LFN Productions, or any other associated entity in the event that your bidding is hampered by technical difficulties.

    5)As-is policy: All items are offered as-is. We will note wherever possible if they are in less than excellent condition but we make no guarantees. Please view the photographs and feel free to ask questions. The choice to insure shipments is left to the discretion of the purchaser; the auction is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged in shipping.

    6)Payment for winning bids can be made with personal check, cashier's check or money order. Shipping costs must be paid with cashier's check or money order. You will be notified of shipping costs when you receive confirmation of your winning bid. If you live outside the U.S. shipping costs will be higher.

    7) Questions about the auction in general may be forwarded to Joyce Wolf or posted to the Questions Forum. Questions about using the board go to Christine Ortega.

    There must be an LFN fan in the BCTV programming department because they ended their S4 broadcasts with the lovely UTRH rather than the more scarring FLYF. I actually called their office last week to ask about whether they were planning to air S5 and was told that they may bring it back in the fall provided they've got enough support (as they did with Felicity apparently). So if you live in BC and you haven't got a S5 tapefairy, phone BCTV (the woman suggested once a week) to tell them how much you'd like to see the final episodes.. Hopefully we can get to see the last eight sometime before next Christmas :P

    Now, I know someone was fabulously helpful by posting the LFN rerun schedule on S2's board and I'm hoping that angel will repeat her favor. I have to confess that I'm too lazy or too frazzled to go searching on a lot of other sites for this information. I'm noticing out-of-town depositions (actually right now they're all in the Tornado Capital of Texas: Wichita Falls -- my co-counsel in the recalled bike/brain injury case gets to do the ones in San Francisco and Minneapolis) over the next two months (but we don't have many twisters in August and September). I'm crossing my fingers that the other lawyers I'm going w/ are "early-to-bedders" so that I can be propped up in the Radisson in the middle of the night and discovering that LFN (as well as The 700 Club, no doubt) comes to WFTx. Yes, I have everything taped; that doesn't stop me from watching the reruns. But my USA reception has been grainy or otherwise annoying since the first of the year and I'm not happy w/ my S5 tape (I guess I'm going to have to break down and get a dish but they're so unattractive) so I'm still shooting to retape it. I'm reasonably assuming we won't get to then by mid-September but still. . . .

    Like Erin, I wasn’t ready to go either, even if I hadn’t shown up regularly for ages. I had reluctantly accepted a DOM certificate back a long time ago, explaining to zzoo it was a matter of “just do(ing) the job”. But by the fourth season I’d begun to feel sort of like the Maytag man and my DOM keyboard had (happily, and vindicatedly – to paraphrase Nikita, I loved it that I was right about him) fallen into disuse – there was nothing to defend any longer. Of course, RL has certainly taken its toll in the last year, too, and my available time for Susan2's board shrank to almost nothing (and is still minimal for purposes of dropping in here, too, these days). But Susan W, thank you, thank you, thank you – I told zzoo and Susan2 and a couple of others earlier today, upon tardily discovering The Final Run had closed, that I’ve done so much reluctant moving on in the last 15 months or so I was really sorry to have one more thing I've cared about in my life disappear, and I hated losing touch w/ so many of you w/ whom I’ve enjoyed countless hours of a fulfillment I haven’t found elsewhere.

  • OT/Moving in -- Susan W, 07:45:47 07/12/01 Thu
    This is sort of like moving into a new apartment--lots of shiny, blank white walls, beige carpeting, and piles of boxes *everywhere*. But trailing behind me, into this cyber-clubhouse, who should I see but YOU!

    {{{Hugs!}}}

    Welcome, and make yourself at home. There is tea in the kitchen cabinet, snacks and drinks in the fridge, and the bar, as you know, is *always* open. Out in the backyard, next to the garden, is a huge, brand new sandbox just heaped with lots of the beigy-pink grainy stuff. Pails, shovels, cars, and other assorted toys are at your disposal. Play nicely, and HAVE FUN!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I'm going to ask you to "be patient" with me, as I am learning my way around the board admin. area and have some tweaking to do (I have to figure out how to enable HTML in the replies, for one thing). Thanks!
    Did you miss episodes 509 through 522 in Season 5? That is, cyber-S5, writen by PamelaKathleen, assisted by waltersgirl. Afer the broadcast S5 ended, a cyber-episode, written script-style, was posted each Sunday night, complete with music cues and commercials (very brief!). There's lots of mssion action and more romance than we saw on screen. And it is quite entertaining. The last episode ends with a cliffhanger and a promise of Season 6.
    The story continues at http://pub12.ezboard.com/fwdsectionandlfffhqfrm11/
    The last year episodes are still on the first screen; the earlier ones are on Pages 3, 2, and 1.
  • OT/"The Mists of Avalon" -- Susan W, 11:32:10 07/15/01 Sun
    Don't forget that the mini-series "The Mists of Avalon" begins tonight, Sunday July 15th, at 8:00 P.M. eastern on TNT. It stars Anjelica Huston, Julianna Margulies, and Joan Allen, among others.
    Stephen English, writing for the TV Data Features Syndicate, writes:
    "Mists" puts a feminist slant on Arthurian legend, presenting it from the perspective of Miss Margulies' character, Morgaine LeFay. Traditionally, Morgaine has been a villain, but this production depicts her as a priestess of the religion that preceded Christianity in Britain, resurrected nowadays as witchcraft or Wicca.
    "That's why this is another side of Arthurian legend," says "Mists" executive producer Mark Wolper. "It's not about two guys fighting over a girl they love. It's about two religions fighting over a world they love, and that's much bigger."
    "We made a conscious effort to represent paganism as a warm, earthy religion and Christianity as a harsh religion," Mr. Wolper adds. "I fully expect controversy; I welcome it."
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Hmmm, well--I think that Mr. Wolper will get what he wants! If you watch it, let us know what you think about it.

    Two people, who wrote personal checks for the CQS4 LFN Charity Auction, have still not be located. As I have exhausted my means of trying to contact them, it is necessary to ask if any of you know either of these people:
    Clara Richmond, codename Mama Lala, Con badge #438 from Spring, Texas and
    Mark Jennings, codename, Skyler, Con badge #191, from Chicago, Illinois.
    Emails have gone unanswered even though they didn't bounce back as invalid. Certified letters have been unclaimed and returned unseen. One telephone number is unlisted, but the address is valid for the name. The other address, from the driver's license is invalid.
    If you know either of these people, please contact them about their stolen checks. Also, please have them contact me.
    Many thanks for the assistance,

  • A Classy Guy -- Susan W, 12:45:26 07/14/01 Sat
    My family and I are big baseball fans, and since we live in Annapolis, Maryland, we follow the Baltimore Orioles. My stadium-building older brother Bob (a.k.a. "World's Best Big Brother") built the stadium for the club, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and has season tickets there (his office is in the adjoining warehouse, and he tells me that meetings are frequently interrupted by the urgent need to see the action on the field, lol.) Well, if you are a baseball fan in this part of the country, that means that you are automatically a HUGE fan of "Mr. Baseball" himself, Cal Ripkin. I've really been enjoying seeing the ceremonies that teams have been having for him, ever since he announced his retirement for later this year. It has made me realize that that it is not only Baltimore area fans that appreciate him, but also fans from all around the major league.

    I think that he's so widely loved and appreciated because he is universally acknowledged to be a "classy guy". And that's gotten me to thinking this week about what it means to be a classy individual. What character traits or qualities contribute to seeing a person in this manner?

    To get on topic (you didn't think I was going to get there, did you? :), fans of Roy Dupuis have always seen him as being a classy guy as well.

    One trait that I think is essential for this designation is *modesty*. We have all read or heard stories of Hollywood actors who think a *little too* highly of themselves--throwing tantrums on the set, making their directors, fellow cast members, and production crew thoroughly miserable. Such actors have a "me, me, me" attitude that quite often comes through in their interactions with the media.

    Well, we all know that Roy is nothing if not modest. His fellow cast mates and others associated with LFN have had nothing but nice things to say about him. I'm sure that he has a normal, healthy ego (all actors do, to some degree), but he has obviously resisted the all too common temptation
    to become completely full of himself.

    So, what other qualities do you think he has that contribute to our perception of him as being "a classy guy"?
