When I first starting following RD, I read articles stating that, from early in his career, Roy has had to battle the impression that he got his roles by virtue of his looks, rather than his acting ability. Sadly, those nay-sayers still exist and still write articles. Personally, I find his acting the very antithesis of "macho banality," unless that is the author's new catch-phrase for subtle, nuanced performances. (smirk.) The writer's research is sorely lacking. Following LFN, RD's work has been Canadian (e.g. Seraphin, The Last Chapter), not American. Apparently, being a good actor and being good looking are mutually exclusive.
