Subject: As a person who lives almost in the middle of a forest, I have wild cherry and maple leaves all over the lawn and I never rake anything. I've never noticed that it has kept the grass from growing in the summer, I wish it did. I don't bother the leaves and they don't bother me. Trying to make the country look like the suburbs is mostly a losing battle. In the spring I have a lovely lawn of purple and white violets, wild strawberries, dog toothed violets, foam flowers, spring beauties, ground ivy, blood roots, lily of the valley, some escaped crocuses and things from the bulb beds and of course crab grass. Not a blade of fescue to be found. I did buy a leaf sweeper that vacuums them up and chops them into tiny pieces but only to get leaf mold for the roses. I think I even used it once. Most people here (in western PA) are too busy in the fall getting firewood for the fireplace. Maybe you could practice up on your chain saw skills before heading north.
