Subject: The slate is wiped clean


It was brought to my attention recently that some people feel that they can't post (or respond to posts) on this board because they were banned over at Susan Hargrove's LFN message board. *This is simply not true, folks!* The slate is wiped clean. One of the things that I wanted to accomplish by establishing this new board was to give our community a fresh start. If you are willing to abide by the board's guidelines (the main one of which is to not flame your fellow board members and/or fans), then you are welcome to post here. If I have a problem with a post (that is not obviously meant to start a flame war), I will make every effort to work it out with you privately via e-mail. So, if you've been hanging out on the sidelines, don't hesitate to dive right into "the sandbox"--and welcome back!

I'll put a little more detailed info on the guidelines in the reply.

The following guidelines are in addition to those posted at the top of the board.

I will allow some leeway on the "no flaming" rule when it comes to discussing people officially connected with the show (or in the TV/film industry in general). Why? Well, because this has always been an independent MB community--one not affiliated with any particular actor, writer, production person, etc.,...and I think that there needs to be a place where people can freely say what's on their mind. If you want to say, for example (and these are just examples, not necessarily my opinions!) that Peta is a terrible actress, that adding Larry to the writing staff was a disaster for the show, or that Joel's comments on episodes seem to come out of left field, you can say that here. Just be prepared to defend your point of view against people who think that Peta is a *wonderful* actress, Larry is a writing genius, and that Joel had the good sense to bring us LFN in the first place. ;-)

Light gossip is also okay here. I feel that when actors are out and about in public, they are fair game for comment. If you want to say that you saw R.D. and Celine at a June benefit, and they looked like they were really in love (as I saw posted on another board ;-) you can do that here. Needless to say, anything that reeks of stalking, pestering, etc. is out.

~~~A Brief Community History~~~ (feel free to skip this section if you already know it by heart :-) or to correct me if I've muddled any of the facts.

Back in the spring of '97, when the show first started, THE uber-site for LFN was created by a woman named Jeanette Myers. The Section 2 list was already up and running, but in terms of web sites, no one at that time could touch Jeanette. She had a guest book attached to her site, and I remember just sort of pouring my heart out in it about how I felt about the show. Others did that as well. Someone must have written something that sparked a discussion, because pretty soon, a number of us had put in multiple entries. Our very own Zzoomama, as a matter of fact, was one of those people! (...and a very opinionated little bazooka elf she was, too.) Jeanette saw what was going on, took pity on us, and establised a message board for us...and thus our little community was born.

Jeanette (who was a graduate student in astronomy), reached the point where she needed to devote more time to her studies. She took down her marvelous web site and handed over the reins of the message board to Holly, who ably tended it for a brief period of time. By that autumn, Susan Hargrove had built *her* comprehensive LFN site, and willingly took over as "MB Mom" from Holly--and indeed, had oversight of the community for the majority of its history. For a significant period of time, it was absolutely the largest, best, and most active MB in the LFN community (until the Heyn's Hussies MB wrestled that honor away from us. :-) Later, Zzoo assisted Susan with the day to day management of the board. The MB, which had been located at the now defunct "Inside the Web", underwent at least one location change there, along with an intermediate change to ezboard (I think?), then to Susan H.'s location at Voy.com, and finally here. As you know, I took over (ran away with, really) oversight of the community just a few months ago.

Since I've taken over, I've been busy cruising around the other LFN message boards on the web, and I must say that I've been amazed at the number and variety of them. But this community was (and still is) my home in LFN-land.
