• She was trying to convince her boss to let her stay even though she was hacking up a lung - blood occasionally - and was nearly shaking with the violent trembles that took over her body that would just never get warm. She had lost a good ten to fifteen pounds since they had least seen each other and was looking like a shadow of her former self. Finally convincing her boss to let her stay for another hour - he knew she needed the money - she headed over, looking down at her notepad as she stopped in front of the table - not bothering to look at the guy. • "Coffee..." He had watched her approach and even now as she stood in front of him and just wasn't too sure he was actually seeing the same girl that he had been so enamored with just a few weeks ago. A low breath escaped his lips as he dropped his gaze to his hands linked on top of the table for a long moment. He missed her and he worried about her, but he just hadn't been able to figure out how this could ever work. • Her head jerked up as she heard his voice, a blush staining her cheeks. She hated to be seen like this, especially by him, she had to much pride for her own good. "No cream two sugars." She stated, remembering from mornings spent together. Her lip tucked between her teeth as she looked over at her boss before she looked back to him. "Anything else? Our special is the grand slam breakfest, two eggs, two pieces of bacon, two sausages and two pieces of toast." She looked back, just giving her speal as if he was any other customer. • "Two sugar, no cream..." He confirmed softly, eyes raising up to meet hers. His brows were gently furrowed - as if he was confused about something - and his gaze was quietly reserved - not pitying, just so obviously concerned. "And I'll have the special..." He requested in another low rush of words, shifting a little on his seat so that he was twisted a little towards her. "How are you?" • Her lips twisted with an almost cynical smirk. "Great, love working here, the grease does wonders for my skin." She shrugged her thin shoulders then though, offering a slight bittersweet smile. "I am alright..." Joey had never told her that he spoke to Travis, didn't want to make her feel worse and when he had brought up going to the clinic that Travis had told him about she immediatly refused. She wrote down his order, turning her head to the side to cough violently for a second. "Excuse me." She muttered, tears in her eyes when she could finally speak again. • "Lysia..." He murmured quietly, frowning gently. No matter what, he hated the way that things were going for her right now. No one deserved to live like this - least of all her, who had just happened to be dealt a really shitty hand. "Yeah, sure... Thanks..." He had no idea what to say to her - he wanted to fix this, but he needed to just think things through for a moment longer. • She nodded, heading over to put the order in - take an order from another table who was none to polite to her and then bring him his coffee, laying the sugar packets on the sugar next to the cup of coffee. "There ya go, your order will be up shortly, anything else you need?" She was trying to be professional here but she felt so weak, like it was exhausting her to just stand here and talk. • "Thanks..." He murmured gently and then caught her wrist before she could move away, his fingers gentle on her delicate skin, head tipped forward a little. "What's going on Lysia? You don't look like you're feeling too well..." He was just gently inquiring, not accusing her of anything. His thumb brushed her wrist slowly, tenderly. • She shrugged lightly, looking down at where he was touching her wrist before she looked back to him again, letting out a soft breath. "Just a cold I can't seem to get rid of..." She murmured, biting her lip as she shifted her weight a little bit, a little wobbly but not to bad. She had slept from the time she got home the night before till she came in - well on and off between the coughing fits - so she would have some strength for the couple of hours she was scheduled at work but it didn't seem to be doing a whole lot of good. • "It sounds a lot worse that just a cold... Let me take you to the doctor, Lysia." He offered suddenly, tone attempting persuasion. It wasn't like he was asking her to marry him. He just wanted to be a friend to her - to take her to see a doctor and get her illness taken care of. She couldn't continue like this. • She set her jaw, shaking her head as she looked nervously over her shoulder and then back to him. "I don't have the money for a doctor and hey, you know me, don't like to volunteer information - always seems to get me in trouble - and doctors ask a lot of questions." She wrapped her arms tightly around her thin frame to keep the chill out from the door opening and closing. She looked back to him, her brow furrowed, shaking her head. "I don't want your pity..." • "I'll take care of it, Lysia. No questions..." He promised her, voice low and gentle and gaze dark as he stared up at her. One hand curled around his warm mug of coffee and drew it nearer, but he didn't raise it to his lips just yet. "I'm not asking you to let me do this out of pity." He assured her - he wasn't that type of guy - and he wasn't doing it just to make himself feel less guilty. • She shivered again, leaning against the table heavily before she let her head drop, her brow furrowed. "I just don't want Joey stressing out over me anymore." She murmured, that was the only thing she couldn't handle. She was ok with being sick, she could handle feeling like hell and like she was going to die but she couldn't handle the way Joey took all the responsibility for her getting sick. • "So then let me take you... Whenever you're free." He offered again, head tipped back a fraction as his eyes lingered on her the whole while, encouraging her ever-so-gently. "You won't get in any trouble... I'll take care of it." He promised and then leaned back slowly in his seat - he just wanted to help her, to make sure that she was healthy and okay. You take me to the doctors, get me all better, soothe your consciousness and then drop me off at the house to never be seen again?" She just didn't know if she wanted to spend anytime with him at all - it would just make it hurt more then it already did. He sighed in quiet frustration - he couldn't stand to think too much farther in the future. For now, his number one concern was the fact that she was seriously ill. She didn't have just a cold, he had a feeling that it was something worse than that and he just wanted to see her feeling better again.That was about as far in the future as he wanted to think right now. • She sighed, running her hand down her face. She didn't really want to do this but it was the only chance she had at both feeling better and possibly just being with him again. "Alright..." She nodded, looking over to where his food was. "Your food is ready..." She began to head over towards where his food was but the stress, the sickness, it overwhelmed her body and before she knew it she was falling - gone in a dead faint - just her bodies way of forcing her to stop and rest. • "Alright, good..." He nodded a little, a sigh of relief escaping his parted lips and finally as she left he turned his gaze back to the window and raised his coffee to his lips. He didn't see the actual fall, just heard the commotion that ensued, and swiveled quickly to see what was happening. "Lysia!" Concern struck his features and he slid out of his booth and joined the growing crowd around her on the floor. Someone was already calling 911 so he didn't bother, instead just shrugged off of his coat to cover her up and linked his fingers into hers. • It only took her a few moments for her to rouse herself, her eyes slowly opening and a confused look crossed her features. As soon as she heard someone say 'ambulance' though, a look of sheer panic crossed her face. "No, no I can't go to the hospital, I can't...Joey's going to be so upset...I can't go there!" She tried to get up but her body was just so tired it wouldn't move which just frustrated her even more. They would ask way to many questions at the hospital, she couldn't do that. • That had totally slipped his mind, but at her panic, he shushed her softly and gently pushed past the other gathered people so that he could duck down close and draw her one arm around his neck - brushing a quick kiss to her forehead before slowly standing up, and supporting her as he did. "C'mon babe." He muttered, holding her close and glancing down at her to make sure she wouldn't pass out again before he headed for the door - ignoring the protests of the crowd. But the truth was - he was a very large man with a very intimidating manner, and there weren't too many heroes that frequented this area, so they really just just let him walk out with her. • She swallowed, her head dropping to his shoulder as her eyes closed again - just purely exhausted. She was running a bit of a fever but that was nothing new - she just wished she felt as hot as her skin did. "Thanks..." She murmured, her voice barely more then a whisper as she didn't even bother to open her eyes to see where he was taking her. She didn't care anymore. • He held her closer to his side and pulled his warm, heavy coat closer around her as they headed out out into the cold. He was left in just a thin black sweater, but he could handle the short walk to his car, and so just supported her as they made their way slowly to where he was parked - from a distance, and in the dim light out there, they looked merely like a couple out for a stroll. He helped her into his car and then hurried around to the driver's side - starting the engine and pulling out just as the red lights of the ambulance appeared in his rearview mirror to stop at the diner. Sighing quietly, he glanced over at her - she really should be getting checked out by those paramedics and going to the hospital, but he knew that she couldn't, and so he headed for his place... • She was quiet as soon as the door to the car closed, her head dropping against the window as she drifted off into an uncomfortable sleep. It was warm in the car, more warm then she had been in a long time - it seemed impossible to get herself warm these days. At night she was shivering with the cold, freezing with the effects of the chilly draft and the sickness that was attacking her body.
