Upon first reading the posting from "cowardly parent" my emotions ran in several directions...initially I felt guilty for having offended anyone at all...after further introspection, my viewpoint has changed radically...I have ALWAYS tried to be articulate, interesting, and above all HONEST here, and I have come to the conclusion that "cowardlly parent" should damned well do the same...look cowardly, I'm NOT your children's role model...if you don't like what's here, then stay away...that means you and your whole family...I and the wonderful people here need a special place in the universe where we can come and talk openly, without feeling we're trapped in an English Boarding School or a Sunday School class in Victorian England...
In a world polluted by ethnic cleansing, nuclear weapons, prejudice, greed, arrogance, germ warfare and general insanity, don't make ME your scapegoat because your child happened to say "fuck"...it is YOU, cowardly parent who are not living in the real world...
My mother, bless her heart, was rather prudish during my upbringing, but she NEVER tried to blame other people for anything I ever did...that's the easy way out for one's own shortcomings..."cowardly", you really do have the right screen name...shame on you for trying to bully this wonderful forum into something your narrow little mind deems "acceptable"...
Let's face it...the human race seems to be going to hell in a handbasket, if the six o'clock news every night is any indication...case in point, the Columbine incident...what kind of fucking horror must that have injected into those surviving school kids and their families...you'd probably be one of those who would blame Metallica or Judas Priest for all of that happening....
If a few articulately placed expletives, all used in context I might add, have put a burr under your saddle, then stay away...it's not for people like you that I post here anyway...I'm searching for far more intelligent, well rounded friends in cyber space...I feel sorry for you in that you think the whole world stops at your front door...grow up...your kids will, WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR HELP...for now, I'm going to ignore your petty little posting entirely...and Deb, if you think I'm wrong, then just tell me...maybe I've made a mistake in trying to be honest and open, but I hope not...
WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN...sorry folks, but everyone can't move to Salt Lake City all at once...besides, the state of Utah already has its full quota of squares and prudes...good thing it wasn't "cowardly parent" beside Jim Morrison that night on the piano bench...he would have let Jim drive himself from the party, and then Jim's life would probably have ended a year and a half before it did...

Well,I really didn't think Cowardly's request was that far out of line, it *was* respectfully stated, most of the responses were too. But since we have 3 seperate threads going on the subject of swearing,and that's not the topic of this board- I've considered pulling the all posts for that reason. Everybody had their say, after all.

So I'll probably pull all the swearing posts off- if people still want to discuss it, hey- I can always create a "should people swear board" But Cowardly was respectful in their request- so I have to stick up for him/her in that respect.


So boys and girls- if the main subject of your post is swearing- it's coming off- ya had your say- time to get back on topic.

You aren't Satan (I don't think). *S* Althought how you have touched my emotions could be considered satanic.

Unfortunately, the only way to get the attention to the people you are speaking to today is to put in a few choice expletive deleted's. It's the old story of beating the mule on the head with a 2" x 4" to get his attention. They hear nothing until you start spewing a few expletives, then you have their attention.

You need to be true to yourself, and express yourself how you see fit. If anyone takes offense to your expression of your emotions, then caveat emptor (let the buyer beware!). You can not possibly please everyone out there, unless you have Superan tights that you are willing to wear daily. If you chose to don those Superman tights, 9/10 of your songs would never have been recorded for fear of offending someone out there. Please keep your emotions raw and close to the surface as you have for all these years. No matter if you spew occassionally. Don't we all spew and vent our rage? Geesh...as if we haven't all said "fuck" sometime in our lives.

If someone takes offense to your language, then they need to look within themselves, as we can ONLY control ourselves and no one else. If their children are being rude, they have to look within to the fact that they are accepting this behaviour, and not to the outside influences. There will always be outside influences on children, but a strong parental influence overcomes this, and teaches children right from wrong.

BC. please don't change. You expressed your emotions, and if some people aren't adult enough to deal with it, that is their problem, and not yours.

Being like many of us a parent I had to also think about this one for a while and concluded that the comment about language was inappropriate as well as ungracious. I assume Mr. C has a creative reason for placing a few expletives here and there and I also do not think he should be responsible for raising our children for us. Assuming there are parents who don't bother to supervise their children on-line, they could be in a lot more danger than reading words which they already have heard their friends use...

Unfortunately, it is still alive and well. There has been an animated series on recently called "God, the Devil, and Bob". Check out "http://www.godthedevilandbob.com" and the notice from the creators on the first page. A vocal minority has now decided that I can not watch any further episodes of this cartoon, unless Global in Canada decides to show them. Sad. -- Fred
