Here's my loonies worth- to be really fair we would have to compare his present voice under studio recording conditions, as most singers rarely sound as good live and on tour which is exhausting and less than ideal conditions. I think his voice has gotten thicker and deeper, the same change I heard in Lennon's voice starting with the white album.

I have always prefered Burton's lower voice, which probably explains why I like his 'Heart' album best, as he seldom uses his 'upper register'. However, I feel he has lost none of his vocal prowess, and though some may disagree, he still is one of the few performers who actually sounds even better live than on record. (Keep in mind that live albums undergo studio trickery and mastering, which often tends to homogenize the sound and take away the 'roughness'of the performance that usually makes it more endearing - which could explain why BC's voice sounded better on MM than on UC&A).
