I have always prefered Burton's lower voice, which probably explains why I like his 'Heart' album best, as he seldom uses his 'upper register'. However, I feel he has lost none of his vocal prowess, and though some may disagree, he still is one of the few performers who actually sounds even better live than on record. (Keep in mind that live albums undergo studio trickery and mastering, which often tends to homogenize the sound and take away the 'roughness'of the performance that usually makes it more endearing - which could explain why BC's voice sounded better on MM than on UC&A).

Up Close and Alone offers a more seasoned artist. With age, his voice seems to have evolved in a way that compliments his artistic style. It seems to be deeper and richer. Maybe the high notes are easier on young, less seasoned vocal chords.
