Up Close and Alone offers a more seasoned artist. With age, his voice seems to have evolved in a way that compliments his artistic style. It seems to be deeper and richer. Maybe the high notes are easier on young, less seasoned vocal chords.

I remember one time when we were all at the Palamino Club in North Hollywood for one of Burton's performances. He made the comment backstage that he was having trouble hitting the high notes, especially on These Eyes, and he said he thought he was getting old. I reminded him that he would have better range, and better breath control if he quit smoking. I sincerely hope he has quit for his health. As far as nasal tones, etc. Burton really likes to improvise with his voice, which is ok with me.

Unless he made it his New Years Resolution, he was still smoking at the New Years Eve Performance.

Now lets just hope he doesn't get arthiritis in his piano playing hands.
