FFVII had more swearing in it than any game I have ever seen. Most of it was split between Barret and Cid, I don't think I ever saw anyone like Tifa or Cloud swear. That's really was made FFVII unique.

I can understand why Nintendo would want to censor out Cigarettes from videogames but alcoholic beverages are a little different. You can see advertising for alcohol on T.V and in magasines so it's not like anyone is going to be shocked when they see it in a consol game. The closest i've seen is in FFVII when Cloud is at the "Seventh's Heaven" and Tifa asks him if he would like something to drink and you can choose to say "Give me something hard", implying that he is ordering a shot of Rye or Whiskey. The censoring seems a little different for computer games. In Baldur's Gate you can go into a tavern and order alcoholic beverages and actally get drunk if you have enough :-)
