| Her homecoming was not going as planned. She would have liked to have had some time to settle in before the onslaught of new wolves, and the sudden loss of a new, but potentially close friend had sapped her energy. So much had happened in such a short time. Mist had been a dutiful alpha as always, and as her backup, Black Ice had shadowed the silver-tinted fae, showing newcomers that their pack was not to be trifled with, that the hierarchy was firmly set in place... at least as far as the top positions went. Since Greyn had returned, and their first shaky greeting, Ice had seen little of her one-time friend. She wasn't sure how to judge Greyn. He had happened upon her and Kosses in the midst of a kill, where any self-respecting wolf would have raised hackles and bared teeth at an intruder. And then to come across both him and Mist upon her return from the hunting lands. Well, Ice had felt a little overwhelmed. She'd been snappish with him, and distant. And quite honestly, she wasn't entirely sure how to regain their former camaraderie. She'd have to, or their powerbase would be compromised. The raven bitch was mulling all of this over as she lay quiet beneath a pine tree, watching the newcomers to the land roam around, when two unfamiliar howls rent the air. Twin towers pricked forward, her muzzle lifted to scent the wind. They were too far away, or standing in a position that did not carry their signatures to her. It wasn't until Greyn's unmistakable howl joined theirs that she relaxed a fraction. Greyn was as protective of Ice Tundra and Mist as she was, If he was with the newcomers, she knew she had little reason to worry. Regardless, she pushed to her paws, and gave her body a shake to rid her coat of pine needles before moving out into the sunlight. She paused once she was visible, glancing around at the other wolves before taking up a swift, ground eating jog toward the three on the hilltop. She slowed only when she was near the top of the hill, and came to a halt a few yards from the threesome. Her eyes narrowed slightly, she didn't recognize the two younger wolves, though they seemed familiar, at least vaguely. She spoke, her voice soft, pleasant almost. "Welcome back." The welcome was directed to all three, as she had an inkling she'd known the two younger wolves when they'd been pups, and directed to Greyn as he'd disappeared from the heart of the territory for a little while. |
