Subject: That's a neat observation....but even with Nick Williams at PG (6'4"), still pretty good size.

Actually, if they could get a freshman big man in the 2003 recruiting class like Alexander Johnson, and then if we didn't have any NBA defections, the next 2 seasons could be really awesome. IF we got Alexander Johnson in this year's class and Epperson next year.....think of this:

2003-2004:
PG 6'4" Nick Williams (jr.), Lucas (jr.), Moore (so.)
SG 6'4" Tony Bobbitt (sr.), F. Williams (sr.), Kirkland
SF 6'7" James White (so.), Kirkland (so.), Pilgrim (fr.)
PF 6'7" Maxiell (jr.), Hicks (so.)
C 6'9" Robert Whaley (jr.), Alexander Johnson (fr.), K Johnson (sr.), Rod Flowers (sr.)

Lose KJohnson, Flowers, Bobbitt, Field Williams to eligibility or graduation.

Bring in Rodney Epperson, Jamar Butler, Matt Terwilliger
2004-2005:
PG 6'4" Nick Williams (sr.), Moore (jr.), Kirkland (jr.)
SG 6'8" Rod Epperson (jr.), Kirkland, Jamar Butler (fr.)
SF 6'7" James White (jr.), Kirkland, Pilgrim (so.)
PF 6'7" Maxiell (sr.), Hicks (jr.)
C 6'9" Whaley (sr.), Alexander Johnson (so.), Terwilliger (fr.)
Lose Whaley, Nick Williams, and Maxiell.....wouldn't be surprised to lose White to NBA after this season.

2005-2006:
PG Moore (sr.), Kirkland(sr.), Butler (so.)
SG Epperson (sr.), Kirkland (sr.), Butler (so.)
SF (White if here), Kirkland (sr.), Pilgrim (jr.)
PF Hicks (sr.), Pilgrim (jr.)
C Alexander Johnson (jr.), Terwilliger (so.)

If we could secure Epperson for 2004's class and Alexander Johnson for next year's class.......this lineup right here even looks pretty good. 4 starting seniors with experience and a junior center? Are you kidding me?

I think after this season, things look up again. I see Maxiell staying atleast through his junior year and probably is senior year. Even if he leaves, I believe Hicks will be ready by then to step in and replace him adequately. Whaley might leave after one year, but I think it will take him ATLEAST half a season to get into the swing of things and therefore his stats won't be overwhelming.....not to mention he'll be sharing the offensive load with Nick Williams, Tony Bobbitt, Field Williams, James White, and Jason Maxiell, so everyone could feasibly average double figures without someone scoring 20 ppg. And therefore, I believe Whaley will stay 2 years. I can see White staying maybe only one year, but possibly two. If he leaves, I feel Kirkland will be ready to step in and take his place. Beyond Maxiell, Whaley, and White....I don't see anyone else skipping town for the NBA right away.

The key to our future are the 3 freshmen we have right now. We have guys transferring in like Nick Williams, Whaley, and White.......but they have only 2 years to give us. We get 4 out of Kirkland, Hicks, and Moore.....and the experience they gain now will help us if Whaley, Max, or White leave. Hicks is Max's successor at PF, and Kirkland is the successor to the SF position, and Moore is our future PG at some point. Which shows us that our biggest need is a solid backup Center.
