  A week ago the first school mentioned by 6'10 Alexander Johnson from North Bridgton (Bridgton Academy) ME when we talked with him at the War on the Shore National Prep School Invitational Tournament in Milford, DE, on Sunday, November 24th, was the University of North Carolina. However, now it looks like Cincinnati is once again the "flavor of the day." And this would make perfect sense, because the Bearcats came close to getting Johnson the first time around a year ago.As a matter of fact, Johnson even mentioned this fact when he gave us his list of schools, which included North Carolina, Alabama, Cincinnati, Duke, and Georgia, at the War on the Shore.

  1st of all i would like to thank all the nice people of Lima.For making me and my family feel at home.Not going to mention names but they know who they.(GREAT TIME).He's my thoughts on the games i saw.Jamar played very well friday nite scoring 20 points in the 1st half and 20 points in the 2nd half.To finish with 40 also chipper in 6 asts(could have had more) if his teamates could finish.Very good game to watch up and down type game Shawnee won 88-74.Thats the type game Jamar loves.Saturday Jamar had off shooting nite.Missed 11 in a row at 1 point.But came up big at crunch time to score 9 in the 4th qrt.As far as the things he does well.He's biggest strenth is making his teamates better.GREAT PASSER.Also has gotten a lot more athletic and stronger in the last few months.Still looks to be 6-2 or 6-3.But now looks to be about 180-185.More later.

  MILFORD, Del. - Alexander Johnson is spending this school year in Maine for a reason - to qualify for NCAA play. But the merit of that goal doesn't mean the kid has to like the journey to get there.
  
  
  Such is Johnson's current existence at North Bridgton (ME) Bridgton Academy.
  
  "Ain't nothin' up there but trees," the Georgia post player said Saturday night here at the War on the Shore. "It takes 45 minutes to get anywhere. I just watch football games and talk on the phone. No good food, either - ain't no soul food."
  
  But there is promise of a different destination come next fall. According to Johnson, Alabama is the only school recruiting him hard right now, but Indiana, Oregon and Colorado apparently are sniffing around.
  
  He can't go to Georgia - his original commitment coming out of high school - because the Bulldogs are out of grants for members of the Class of 2003.
  
  Rest assured, though: He'll end up somewhere.
  
  "He's ready to play at the next level," Bridgton assistant Al Lewis said after Johnson had 20 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Burlington (NJ) Life Center.
  
  "He could help a lot of teams right now. He needs to work on playing had all the time, but he has all the tools necessary to be very good at the next level."
  
  Including an effective jumper. He made good on four of his five three-point attempts Saturday night.
  
  "I'm a big man," Johnson explained, "but I like to step out and face up. I'm really focusing on my mid-range game right now."
  
  As for a choice in the spring?
  
  "I just want a good coach," he said. "A coach who lets his big men step out and take the three every now and then."
  
  He'll take another shot at the SAT in December.

  • Occasionally, I think if Bass waits until Spring that he might reconsider UC as his options diminish. Although with White possibly coming and Pilgrim already signed, I guess the SF and PF positions are taken. Had he signed with UC early, I believe Pilgrim would not be a Bearcat.   Whaley, Epperson lead Cougars to win over Grayson County
  
  "The Barton County Community College men's basketball team improved to 8-0 for the year, winning during the first day of the Midland College Classic. The Cougars knocked off Grayson County by a 70-61 score in Midland, Texas.
  
  No. 1 ranked Barton will play today at 5:45 p.m. against Odessa College at Midland.
  
  Highlights
  Some key runs propelled the Cougars to their second win over Grayson this season by just about the same final. Barton won earlier this year in Great Bend by a 72-59 score. Both games have been the lowest scoring outputs for the Cougars this season.
  
  The first key run came in the first half with Barton County leading 16-13. The Cougars, keyed by eight points from Robert Whaley, went on a 12-4 run to push the margin to 28-17. Barton held that lead right around double digits for most the remainder of the first half.
  
  Another big run came early in the second half after the Vikings bolted out of the gates to cut the lead to 39-33 with 16:30 to play in the game. Rodney Epperson played a key part in a 14-4 run over the next six minutes to give the Cougars a 53-37 lead. The big play in the spurt was a 4-point play by Epperson, who drilled a 3-pointer and added the free throw when he was fouled on the basket.
  
  Grayson made one more run at Barton following the Cougars 14-4 run with a 7-0 run of its own to make it a 53-44 game. But a Whaley field goal and ensuing free throw, followed by a Justin Rose teal and an Epperson layup quickly pushed that lead back to 58-44. The lead remained double digits until the final minute as three 3’s by Grayson at the end of the game cut into the Cougar’s lead.
  
  Whaley led the way for the Cougars 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor. Epperson added 20, hitting 4-of-8 3-pointers. The 20 points is a career-high for the Barton County freshman, surpassing his 19-point effort against SMS-West Plains.

  Playing Grayson is like playing Princeton, they are so patient with the ball. I felt we really did a good job of playing defense, especially in the first half. We forced four or five shot clock violations on defense and held them to one offensive rebound in that first half.
  
  Beating Grayson by 9 is like beating some other teams by 20, since the pace is so slow. We had it up to 15 or so a few times but couldn’t get it up to 20. But then again, they really wouldn’t let you get away from them." - Barton County Website
  
  Whaley had a "DNP" in their previous game......had me worried that he was punished or something. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't know about the kid's overall skills or if he's D-1 material in terms of playing defense and other things......but the Barton County frosh, 6'8" Rodney Epperson looks like a kid UC should recruit. Again, I'm not at their games, but on paper......he's 6'8" and shoots the 3 really well, can slash.......he seems to have a strong offensive game. Put it this way: He's the second scoring option on a JUCO team that has Louisville's top recruit, Nouha Diakite.....so that says something. Poop Scoop rates Diakite an "8" out of 10 in terms of talent.....so I guess since Epperson (a frosh, no less) must be rated about the same if he's carrying the secondary scoring load after Whaley.

  Hope James finds a good place. He's a good kid and very
  talented. James needs a new start. Florida had its best recruiting year last year. I think it was Billy getting Christian Drejer that broke the camel's back. That means that James would have been competing for minutes with James Lee, 6-9 240 (beat James in the McD slam dunk last year and is a better player than James at this stage in his career), Bonnell Colas 6-9, 225 (a good player that James would compete with head to head), Mat Walsh, 6-6, 205 (plays inside/outside like Mike Miller, has 27, and 20 pts. first 2 games), Adrian Moss 6-9, 238 (a banger, rebounder with a double-double in 2nd game), and Drejer 6-9, 210, who may be the 2nd most talented member on this team (after Brett Nelson) and is listed as a guard! Florida has a deep deep team this year with 11 very good players and scorers (w/o James) Nelson, Drejer, and Colas are hurt and the team will be full strength in 3 weeks . That's too much for James. He needs less competition and more minutes to get better. If your roster has the space he's the guy, and he may be an impact player one day (and the day after that he will be in the NBA), but he is not yet competing at his potential.

  This doesn't have to do with UC recruiting but as a loyal Bearcat fan who lives in New Jersey I have a collection of 40 tapes from UC nationally televised games from the past five years and I'd like to get every game from this season on tape.   I listened to Anthony Buford on Lance's show and he is excellent. He said a couple of interesting things.
  
  Huggins told him he is bringing 5 studs into the program next year. This statement is interesting in two ways. It confirms the number of available ships for next season, it also raises the question, even though we have only three players signed, does he have two more ready and waiting for the spring signing period.
  
  It sounded like they will go hard after White from Florida, but they will want White to know what is expected of him if he decides to come here. He said White has some additional baggage aside from the fact he wanted to play more than 20 minutes a game as a freshman.
  
  If White is the fourth recruit, who is the fifth? Could it be that Bender is in his plans as long as he keeps his nose clean? He plays the position we are looking for. I would prefer a player with more than two years of eligibility. We will be Junior heavy in my opinion.
  
  In any event it appears we will have five new players next year so we can keep guessing on the fifth scholly.

  The University of Cincinnati completed its fall recruiting class Wednesday when it received a signed letter-of-intent from Purcell Marian High School product Mike Pilgrim, a 6-7, 210-pound forward playing this year at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.
  
  "Pilgrim really helps our athleticism," Huggins said. "He's as athletic as anybody who was out there on the circuit all summer."
  
  Said assistant coach Andy Kennedy: "He's trying to make the transition from being primarily an inside guy to a combo forward who can make shots and put the ball on the floor."
  
  James White, a 6-7 forward who received his release from Florida and has announced his intention to transfer to another school, will visit UC this weekend.

  The visit is his first since opting to transfer from Florida two weeks ago. Our sources still think Missouri is likely to receive a visit should the Bearcats not capitalize on their opportunity. You can bet the Bearcats will push for a commitment with White on campus.

  Friday, November 15, 2002 - Our New York City Editor Ron Naclerio tells us that he talked with James White, who announced that he will transfer from the University of Florida earlier this week, at the Coaches versus Cancer doubleheader last night at Madison Square Garden and it appears that three schools (Missouri, Cincinnati, and Syracuse) are at the top of White's list. We also have heard from other sources that Georgia Tech and Indiana are also involved and that his parents and others advising him what White to take his time and explore all of his options. This is important, because other people seem to think that Cincinnati is the heavy favorite and, as a result, it's only a matter of time before the Bearcats get this one done. If you will recall, White, who was ranked as the #1 5th year player by the HOOP SCOOP two year ago, is a phenomenal athlete who thrives in a uptempo setting, but needs to work on his outside shooting and other perimeter skills. In other words, White is a stereotypical Bobby Huggins type player. We also know that Cincinnati has one more scholarship available and they are looking for the best available player to complement their current recruiting class, which is ranked #4 on our list of the Top Recruiting Classes To-Date for the Class of 2003 and includes 6'10 Robert Whaley from Barton County (JC) KS, 6'4 Nick Williams from Chipola (JC) FL, and 6'8 Mike Pilgrim from Wolfeboro (Brewster Academy) NH. However, if the Bearcats get White, we would not include him with the Bearcats' current recruiting class. Remember, it's not our editorial policy to include transfers when ranking recruiting classes. Speaking of Cincinnati's recruiting class, we think it perfectly illustrates a point that we've been harping on more and more as time goes on. If you're a school like Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas State, or Texas Tech, which already are top level programs or rapidly moving in that direction, you often aren't going to get the respect that you deserve. And a big part of the problem is that junior college players don't get the same type of notoriety that the top high school players do, especially if they are McDonald's All-Americans. Remember, when Oklahoma advanced to the NCAA Final Four last March, everybody talked about the fact that the Sooners didn't have any McDonald's All-Americans on the roster and, as a result, most people assumed that they didn't have that much talent. And they still don't have a McDonald's All-American on the roster, but the Sooners do have the 5th highest talent rating in college basketball by the HOOP SCOOP and, despite last night's opening game loss to Alabama, is one of the pre-season favorites to win the National Championship this season. This also comes into play when everybody ranks their top recruiting classes this time of year and contrasting Arizona's recruiting class with Cincinnati's recruiting class is especially interesting. Dave Telep of the InsidersHoops.com, who is widely recognized as one of the top people in the business, told me today that the criteria that he used to rank the Wildcats recruiting class #1 in the nation on his web site was the fact that Lute Olson signed the best power forward - 6'10 Ndudi Ebi from Houston (Westbury Christian) TX - the best point guard - 6'3 Mustafa Shakur from Wynnewood (Friends Central) PA - in the nation. And, while we agree with Telep on this point, I also think is important to look a little deeper when comparing the two classes. As a matter of fact, Arizona's third recruit - 6'10 Kirk Walters from Grand Rapids (South Christian) MI - is not ranked among our top 100 senior nationally and, as a result, the Wildcats recruiting class doesn't measure up with the classes that are ranked ahead of it once you go past two players. In contrast, Cincinnati's recruiting class includes the #1-ranked junior college player in Whaley, a top five junior college player in Williams, and the #6-ranked 5th year player by the HOOP SCOOP in Pilgrim. So, if we break it down on a scale of 1-100, with 100 being the best and one being the worst, I'd make Ebi's worth 95 points, Shakur worth 93 points, and Walters worth 30 points for a total of 218 points. In contrast, I'd make Whaley worth 92 points, Williams worth 90 points, and Pilgram worth 80 points for a total of 262. However, to play devils advocate for a second, the word we get from those who have seen Whaley play this fall, he still doesn't play hard all the time and often doesn't use his size to dominant inside the way he should and, as a result, it appears that he still has the same old question marks that haunted him in high school. So let's assume that we have Whaley ranked too high and drop him to 80 points or even 60 points. That would mean that Cincinnati still would be ranked 12 to-32 points ahead of Arizona. In other words, we not only disagree with Telep, but we don't think it's even close. Part of the problem is that Telep doesn't appear to know how good Pilgrim has gotten since we all saw him last spring at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. And the same thing often happens with junior college players, because we're often only as good as our sources. Remember, our beat his watching the top high school players in the nation and we're often dependent upon second hand information when ranking junior college players. And compounding the problem even further is the status quo mentality that a lot of people in the business seem to have. Most people seem to think that if you land three or four McDonald's All-American's, you automatically have the best recruiting class. However, I never know how it's going to turn out until I've assigned every player a rating on a 1-10 scale and add up all the numbers. Sure, we miss the boat sometimes, but our track record is pretty good. If you will recall, we were the first one to have 6'7 Carmelo Anthony from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA ranked as the #1 player in the Class of 2002. Actually we were out there all by ourself on this one for about eight months and, even in the end, not very many people had Anthony ranked as the #1 player nationally in his class. However, we look pretty good right now, especially after his 27 points last night versus Memphis in the first game of the Coaches versus Cancer doubleheader. We also had another player - 6'8 Kevin Bookout from Stroud (H.S.) OK - in that doubleheader ranked higher than anybody else in his class in our final rankings. If you will recall, we had Bookout, who now appears to be one of the leading candidates for Freshman-of-the-Year in college basketball this year, along with Anthony, ranked #10 nationally, but he wasn't named to the McDonald's All-American Team last spring. And, as long as we're on the topic of Oklahoma, didn't we have the Sooners' recruiting class ranked #2 in the nation in 1999-2000 ago and #6 in 2000-2001? And didn't everybody miss on the Sooners pre-season a year ago due exactly to the point we are trying to make? If you will recall, Oklahoma signed 12 players during that two-year period of which nine were junior college players and one was a 5th year player. Another player we had a lot higher than everybody else in our final rankings last spring was 6'7 Curtis Withers from Charlotte (West Charlotte) NC. We had Withers ranked #31 in the nation. In contrast, Bob Gibbons of All-Stars Sports, which is based in North Carolina, had Withers ranked no higher than #157 in his final rankings. We bring this up, because the word on the street is that Withers has turned out to be a major surprise in practice this fall and, as a result, will likely be one of the leading candidates for Rookie-of-the-Year honors in Conference USA this season. And these are only a few of the latest examples. In other words, our rankings of the top recruiting classes and talent ratings have not only withstood the test of time, but the insight we provide you with isn't available anywhere else and our ability to put all the pieces together and analyze whatever information is at hand is second to none. • Review of game #2 -- Cliff, 22:59:35 11/14/02 Thu
  I don't have the stats or score in front of me so the numbers might not be right, but here it goes. UC won 18 points which was a pleasant surprise.
  
  Starters were Hollman, Max, Stokes, Field and Bobbitt. Hollman had trouble with the D, in fact AIA scored on a lot of give and goes and pick and rolls. The lack of a defensive center really showed. Offensively, Field Williams was the man. He had 21 points in the first half with several buckets coming from 25 ft. out including the closing shot at half. We were only up 3 or 6 points at half and we were shooting over 60% from 3 point land.
  
  The second half was a different story. Part of the reason may be because AIA center was in foul trouble and we had a lot of trouble matching up with him. Our defense was much more active. UC was up by 20 with 10 minutes to go. With 5 minutes to go UC had its walk-ons in.
  
  Tony Bobbitt showed he can play offense and defense. He anticipates very well. His shot was off a little, but I will gaurentee you he will have at least several 20 point games. From the center spot I thought Flowers showed improvement, but looked more like a power foward than a center. Hollman was very average. No offense at tall. Our JC center (whose name I forget) played fairly well. He made several jump hooks and got a handfull of rebounds.
  
  This is going to be a year where somebody different will stand out each game IMO. All three freshmen showed flashes of brilliance at times (Kirkland, Moore, Hicks). Each are athletic and each can play offense and defense. They are still learning and it will be fun to watch them grow.
  
  Stokes played OK and Barker played well. He made several outside shots and gave us a spark on defense. Clearly the player of the game was Field. His defense has improved dramatically, he got more than his share of rebounds and shot lights out. I would never have believed we could get this much out of him. He still has difficulty driving to the basket, but this game it wasn't needed.
  
  I am encouraged after this game. I saw some positive things on defense which was my biggest concern. On offense with Field and Bobbitt in the game, nobody will zone us.

  Nick Williams, the talented 6-4 combo guard from Chipola J.C. in Marianna, Fla., broke his foot last Friday and is out for 4-6 weeks.
  
  Rivalshoops.com confirmed the injury with Chipola Head Coach Ryan Cross. Williams committed to Cincinnati earlier this fall.
  
  "On Monday, they put a screw in his foot, and they expect him back in four to six weeks," Cross said. "In the worst case scenario, he will be back to play January 3rd when we come back from the Christmas break."
  
  Williams was injured in a victory over Jefferson Davis on Friday night. He was averaging 16.4 points per contest in the Indians' first four games, all victories. Chipola managed to win on Saturday without Williams to improve to 5-0 this fall.
  
  "It was just kind of a freak thing," Cross explained. "He was running down the floor and stepped on a guy's foot, breaking his fifth metatarsal bone."
  
  Cross said that doctors have told him that the screw inserted into Williams' foot won't be removed until the season's end [sometime in March], at the earliest. It could even be left in permanently, as it is not expected to affect Nick adversely in any way.

  • I wouldn't agree that no one knew UC was recruiting their 3 current commitments until a few weeks before they committed. The Enquirer ran an article in the summer naming Nick Williams as a target. I think a lot of us also knew UC was recruiting Whaley and that UC coaches planned to monitor Pilgrim in prep school (his summer play moved him way up the charts and made the coaches feel he was worthy of a scholarship in the early signing period). Just because a guy's rated highly doesn't mean he's UC's top target. I know Whaley and Williams were top UC targets, and Pilgrim approached that level as well with his summer play. My source cites the Oak Hill connection with Chadd Moore and the CSI connection with Bobbitt and his coach. Makes sense, but I have no other confirmation on this. • NKU game review -- Cliff, 21:20:50 11/09/02 Sat
  Typical first game. Some nice stuff and and lot of not so nice stuff. Even though NKU only had 51 points, it looked the the defense has a way to go.
  
  The big concerns as expected are the point guard and center positions. Taron started at point, but did nothing to solidify the spot. He shot poorly and did everything else average. Interestingly the first player to come in at point was Kirkland. Kirkland showed he can handle the ball, but his lack of experience showed. Next at point was Bobbitt who played OK at point, but looks more like a 2 guard. Make no mistake about it, Bobbitt is a player. Chad Moore didn't get into the game until 8 minutes to go which should tell you something. But, he played the rest of the game and gave some spark to the team, both on offense and defense. I still think at this point he is going to see a lot of bench time.
  
  Field and stokes were solid, each doing what they do best. Hicks didn't get into the game until late also, but like Moore he showed some spark. Blocked a couple shots, had a couple of baskets, but looked lost at times. Hicks will be a big time player in the next year or two once he gets healthy.
  
  Underneath, it was a lot of players doing the same thing. The best offensive players are Flowers and Land, but both are too short and too slow to be full time centers. Hollman and Johnson are active put have fewer skills. Johnson will get some points, but I doubt Hollman will. I think it will be mix and match at the center and power forward position when Max is out.
  
  It will be an interesting year. We may lose some games we should win, because we are going to have to count on our outside shooting more than in the past. If several players emerge we can battle for the conference title again.

  I think Moore, Kirkland, and Hicks will get more minutes about the halfway point of the season......all will take time to put it together. I am really clueless about where Hicks stands in his progress.......you rarely hear anything about the guy of late......so it appears he's not in their plans this year.
  
  My prediction about Hollman is mainly because I think Johnson will be foul prone because he guards bigger guys. I think Hollman and Land will rotate at Center to give fouls and rebounds.

  He is a junior from Lasalle and related to Louis Orr.Just wondering from anybody if he has a chance going D-1 or how good he is.Someone that I know says he grew 2 to 3 inches over the summer and is now 6-6 to 6-7 and he plays the three.He also said he's heard that he doesn't think he wants to play for Louis and that he's a big Bearcat fan and goes to all the home games that he can.Of course this is from one mouth to another mouth and don't know if there's any credibility here but just wondering on Chatter or KB's or anyone in the know how good is this kid.Could he become a late bloomer because I don't see him listed on any recruiting boards.

  7-0 center Chris Alexander of Iowa State has been suspended indefinitely from the men's basketball program for a violation of team rules. The suspension resulted from a fight at a local bar involving Alexander during the weekend. Alexander was charged with serious assault, which is a serious misdemeanor. He faces one year in jail time and/or a $1,500 fine if convicted. Alexander was brought to the Ames Police Department and later released on his own recognizance. Chris Alexander helped lead Indian Hills (IA) CC to a Region 11 title and a fourth-place national tournament finish as a freshman. He averaged 11.9 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 73.6 percent from the floor.

  What do you guys think the starting lineup is going to look like? I guess the only questions are at SG and C. This is how I would like to see it:
  PG Taron Barker/Chad Moore/Jamal Lucas (Tony Bobbit can play her too)
  SG Tony Bobbit/Field Williams/Armein Kirkland
  SF Leonard Stokes/Eric Hicks/Armein Kirkland
  PF Jason Maxiell/Derek Hollman/Eugene Land

  Flowers has looked very impressive in my opinion from the first practice I went to and the scrimmage this Saturday. He is always in the right spots for rebounds and has a great offensive game. His defense could be better I guess but I don't think it is that bad really. I think Hicks will need some time to adjust to the college game. Bobbit is a dawg. He is a very, very good player in my opinion, wouldn't be surprised if he challenged Wade and Gaines for C-USA player of the year. I love Field but Bobbit deserves the spot.

  I can't read Huggins mind, but here's what I think:
  
  They were pursuing Bass, Varem, and now this Femi kid. Bass isn't even going to visit UC which looks like he's not going to choose UC......surprise, surprise. Varem seems high on Indiana and Mike Davis.......so we're probably out on him.
  
  I think UC is exclusively looking for a big man. If a good one comes along and chooses UC, then they take him. I don't think they'll waste a scholarship on a lower tier backup center.....they really don't need to with Kareem Johnson, Rod Flowers and Whaley here next year. And if Land and/or Hollman gains another year of eligibility, they could be strong underneath. Remember the '92 team really only had decent size in Corie Blount. Reicheneker really kinda stunk and that team got by anyway. Alot of 6'10" to 7' guys can't jump anyway and usually don't grab as many rebounds as the shorter guys with hops.....so it seems (B.J. Grove, Donald Little).
  
  It wouldn't surprise me to see UC find some diamond in the rough center this Spring and take them (ala Kareem Johnson this past Spring). Could it be Ben Elias or this Femi kid? Or someone else who's yet to emerge in JUCO?
  
  The fact that Terwilliger was sitting on UC's bench, Saturday, tells me that they're already hitting '04 hard. If they only have 4 scholarships available and they have Jamar Butler and Terwilliger verballed by this Fall......they can work hard on the other 2 available spots and finish '04 off, hopefully.
  
  Anyone know who else they're recruiting in '04? I hear this Roy Bright kid. Are they recruiting any of these players in Ohio......like Aaron Agnew, Jamal Cornley (spelling), etc.........what BIG underclassmen are they recruiting that they have a shot at?
  
  Back to Land and Hollman: If they gain another year, that would make next year's team pretty darn awesome. We only lose Barker and Stokes, I believe, off the top of my head.

  More than likely neither will get another year....and I'm sure that's what UC is counting on.
  
  So if we don't get Femi, the center position needs a third backup.

  Mike Pilgrim is heading home. It was hard to turn down family, but in order to get himself into Cincinnati's program that's just what he did.

  Mike Pilgrim made one of the toughest decisions a young man could make. He opted to say thanks but no thanks to a family member in an effort to follow his heard.
  
  Pilgrim committed to Bob Huggins and Cincinnati on Friday. In doing so, he spurned an offer from Louis Orr, the head coach at Seton Hall and one of his cousins.
  
  "It was real tough to call family and Virginia," Pilgrim said. "I found it real hard to turn down family. I talked to him earlier today and it was tough. A lot of my other family members were pushing me to go to Seton Hall. To me, going home was the best for me."
  
  Going home means lacing them up for the Bearcats and that's not such a bad idea. "The deciding factor was that they have a real good program. It's not up and coming, it's already there. The deciding factor was am I going to play my freshman year and they said yes. I've always seen myself playing with Coach Huggins."
  
  Pilgrim played this summer with Mike Duncan's Cleveland Basketball Club but it wasn't until he got to prep school that he became a hot target. "I had a real good July. Everybody wasn't sure that I was going to prep school. Once they did, a lot of people started calling and told me I would be one of the top players in prep school and that just made me work even harder."
