Subject: Are transfers counted in the 5/8 scholarships rule is the question
In reply to: beck 's message, "If a player is awarded a basketball schollie, at some point it will count as such. He could be given other grant in aid, such as the soph guard from Tx., but the NCAA watches these things closely (true?)." on 07:57:10 11/27/02 Wed

And I am not certain of if that is the case or not.My understanding of the situation after reading the NCAA guidelines was players that signed letter of intents to a college during that recruiting year where counted meaning NCAA Division-1 tranfers are not among those.Nick Williams would count because he decided to become a JC transfer and will have 2 years of eligibilty instead of James White having 3 seasons if he transfers to a 4 year D-1 college.Would explain why UC is still after both a Small Forward and a Center prospect for the next season
