Played in 28 games as a freshman at the Big East school. Averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes per game for the Pirates.

Branwell was a four-year starter in high school, graduating from Dunbar High School. His senior season scored 24 points a contest and collected 14 rebounds a game. Averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds as a junior.
