A writer friend of mind advised that the best way to check for spelling errors was to read the text (not the words lol) backwards. It apparently slows the brain down enabling it to notice errors. I tried it but it was too boring by far, and my eyes still glazed over the words after a while.

I know for some years they didn’t formally teach grammar in Australian schools, perhaps the same is true of UK education. However they have seen the error of their ways and I understand grammar of sorts is again in the curriculum.

I was taught grammar at school but it was never my strongest subject. I must admit I tend to split infinitives quite often. But when I correct it, it appears so "To the Manor Born" that I change it again, so perhaps split infinitives are well on the way to be being the new standard. Who knows in a few years I might be reduced to typing: “gr8 2 c u 2day” or some such code.
