Subject: greetin like a bairn

I've not quite been greetin like a bairn but not far off this evening, watching the Edinburgh Tattoo, with over a hundred pipers, and bands from all over the world, the wonderful Gurgkhas, the sublime New Zealander's military marching band, the Scottish military bands, the Coldstream Guards, had to bite my lip very hard when they had someone singing a song I had never heard before (called something like Hail to the Hero) and they had the bands marching and some lads in full desert gear, with their bergens on their backs but their drums in front of them as they are not just musicians but front line solders and had just recently finished a tour of Afghanistan, and I cold feel my eyes filling up and having to find a hanky. Feeling very patriotic at the moment, there are no troops like the British to put on a full scale tattoo but everyone there were marvellous, including some children, aged 5 to 16 on their little motobikes, doing an incredible display of riding. Fabulous show altogether.
