Thank God for that Thingmy. I was beginning to think I was the only laddie in Scotland to visit the only shoe shop in Scotland that had a Fluoroscope.

Can you let me know where and when you remember the Fluoroscope from? I'm thinking of writing an article about the device and trying to sell it to a science magazine to earn a few bob. Most people I speak to are amazed that as recently as the 1970s shoe shop staff were getting children to put their feet over an X-ray tube with little or no protection for themselves or the children. It's an example of an amazing scientific discovery (X-rays) being used as a marketing gimmick without appreciating the possible consequences.

Glow-in-the-dark numerals on some old watches and clocks had radium in them. Science teachers in schools used to use them to demonstrate how Geiger counters worked. That rapid beeping made you wonder if your super-duper watch was really such a good idea!
