They got rid of them fluoroscopes because they said that the repeated levels of radiation from the X-Rays could make the children who used them more susceptible to Leukemia, as they were used on children and tots who were too small to say whether the shoes were too tight or had the correct toe clearance for comfort, also kids thought they were a novelty and would put their foot in quite a few times just to see the toes on the screen, not a good idea as X-rays should be limited to be done only when necessary, also the machines in them days produced higher levels of radiation than today's machines, and the Shop Assistant would be bending over the customer within a foot or two of the machine all day getting zapped with every customer, that's why when you are having an Xray the operator goes out of the room behinnd a lead screen or if you are a male they would cover your testicles if the area was near your nuts being x-Ray'd...Just imagine if it was a male shop assistant squatting over the machine observing the result, he would have fried testicles and in later years wonder why he was sterile and firing blanks......
