A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in mysterious ways.
After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers. The woman says, 'So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must
be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in peace for the rest of our days.' Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a
sign from God! But you're still at fault...women shouldn't be allowed to drive.' The woman continues, 'And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune. She hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle
and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man.
The man asks, 'Aren't you having any?'
The woman replies, 'No. I think I'll just wait for the police...'

Hi everyone!

Well, I finally got a new computer; a MacBook. It's amazing how vast the improvement is over my obsolete system. I can once again access my financial sites as well as fun things like YouTube and FaceBook, all of which stopped working for me over a year ago. I am still learning Snow Tiger (the newest Mac OS), but so far I love it. It came with iMovie, so I have been assembling some video scrapbooks of my trips to Scotland and other places, combining both video and stills with music. If I get something decent put together, I will post it somewhere so you guys can see it.

I also picked up a bluetooth Apple mouse called a Mighty Mouse. It's wireless, and works like a regular mouse, but also like a touchpad. There are no buttons or anything. It's completely smooth, but it clicks when you tap it. If you stroke the back of the mouse you can move the screen up and down, or side to side, if the screen scrolls that way. And you can set it so that a fast flick of your finger sweeps the page to the bottom (or the top, if you are at the bottom). It cost about $70, but it's a freaking awesome mouse. I still have to buy a new edit suite, but the old one is still working, so it can wait while I corral the funding.

In the course of transferring bookmarks from the old system to the next, I have updated the New Releases list. I will post it in the first reply.

In other news, my sister STILL has no real stove (I gave her my camping stove and electric wok for the duration) and no laundry at her house, but they are getting close. They bought the vinyl for the floor and are about week away from being able to paint the walls. On the other hand, it's nice to be needed. I've been doing most of their laundry, and giving them free run of my kitchen when the propane stove isn't enough. Well, that's enough from the Board Hog today.

Friday Josie was diagnosed with diabetes. She hasn't been typed yet, we have to go to the clinic at the Children's Hospital. They can't get us in till next week because she's going to Vancouver tonight and they couldn't get us in yesterday or today. They don't feel she is at a "critical" level at the moment, so next week should be fine. But of course they have given me a list of things to watch for and to get her to the ER immediately if they happen. Great!!!

She's going with my mother tonight to Vancouver for the weekend. I'm letting her go because she's upset over this and she's been looking so forward to going. It's Miss Lizzie's 6th birthday (Holy Crap!!) and she has plans with my sisters (same age as her). My mother is type 2 and is more then capable of dealing with it. My sister also has experience being an elementary school teacher. She would be devastated if I didn㦙 let her go.

I'm just stressed about it. I just hate for her to be away, I'm scared something will happen. I'm glad that we have the diagnoses even if it is shitty. It answers a lot of questions, and will help things now that we know there is something wrong. So I have to sit tight till next week and see what our future holds.

- Oh Cherie- I'll be thinking about the both of you. As a rather new type 2 --I feel so much better with my meds than I did before. It also helped me lose some weight (gained back some but thats due to other health issues) She is young enough that if she gets it under control, she may not need meds for the rest of her life. AND with the meds today - diet is important but the meds help alot if she has something not good for her once in a while. I'm having some difficulties with an US American company. We are their client, and I honestly don't know if there is a culture difference or if these people are ... I don't know. Everything that comes to my mind is so rude, I hardly dare to say that.
I know that you will give me honest answers. At least that's what I would like to ask you! Please be honest and tell me if mayb I'm completely off! Sorry if I go long...

We bought an operational software from an US american company because a lot of companies use this. We've met the people in Paris, France. We told them we are a small company and are looking for a small version. The small version costs after all 6000 USD! Plus 180 USD p/m. for updates. After everything was installed I did some training in the training level (which I think is great!) and found out that we had to use the US american decimal system. The difference is like this US: 1,000.50, Europe 1.000,50
When I asked to adjust the system they said it is not possible with the small version we bought. This is only possible with the higher version wher we not only had to pay extra but they also wanted to charge us 2500 USD for data migration.
We were not told this before. If we would've known this this would've been a "no go" for us. Our company is in Europe and not in the US and we have the European system and not the US system.
After some negotioations we've got the new system, paid extra, had also to buy an Oracle database(!) but din't pay for data migration.
Then we wanted to have our forms designed. The templates for invoices, customer quotes etc. We cannot do this by ourselves because we didn't buy the "forms designer" for 1500 USD. I looked at various examples we received from companies. Then I've send a mail with an example and said we want to have all our forms this way. We've received a Proposal, I paid for it, but didn't check the proposal (my fault I know).
When I was on vacation the form was installed. Eventually we went life with the software 01NOV09. Then I wanted to see a template of our invoices but was told this is not possible, because we haven't created an invoice yet.
When we finally created an invoice I've checked the design and it looked so unprofessional! Not to mention that no company address was shown, but our logo twice, but one half hidden behind he other. Thank god there is a Standard of each form we can use which is not customised, but okay. BTW, the woman who did this NEVER called me and asked what of the example I wanted to have.
When I complained and wanted a correction I've got another proposal am supposed to pay for more AND, and this is what really drives me insane!, they will put us on queue and we have to wait for 21 days.

- Ugghhhh accounting systems. Hate it!!! Your 1st system is always a learning curve. There are always things you never think of asking about. Unfourtunatly, they have your money now and you've got to deal with them. And they know it. You don't have a choice. Been there done that. I once tested a new system that was made in Quebec (french prov in Canada) half the words were in french. And they were terrible about changing things. Thing that pissed me off the most was it calculated tax by line not by sub total so my subtotal + tax never = my total, it was always a penny or 2 out because of the rounding. Grrrrr.   - Their new album dropped today - I've had it for a week or two already and it's pretty good, a couple of songs I really like, some I went "meh". I suppose for me it's a bit of nostalgia, but I do enjoy a lot of their songs, many of which weren't the radio play ones. I've always been a fan of "deep tracks" - my favorite song on any album is rarely the one they played on the radio. My favorite album of theirs is one that didn't get much airplay in the States called "These Days", GREAT guitar solos esp. on "Dry County". They are good songwriters and most of the stuff is optimistic which balances my Eyeoreness. And they are known for putting on a very good show, even people who don't really like them generally say so. This will be my first BJ concert, so I hope they live up to that! Wanna good laugh?! I had a friend visiting this weekend. THAT is a story in itself. But anyway, she needed a beige bra for a top she'd brought so we ducked in to VS. While there, I decided to try this new bra...just to see what it would do.

OH DEAR LORD!!! If you are a C cup or bigger...why on earth would they make this bra for you! It's basically a SOLID bra. That way it takes everything you have and shoves it together and UP! As I've met most of the FFFers, you can just imagine. Dolly Parton had nuthin' on me. hahahaha

So, if you A and B cups want to have some masterful clevage for an event or whatever...check it out and go for it.

I've been cleaning and packing up most of today as we're heading out in the morning to catch 2 ferries (that sounds funny;-) and then drive for 10 plus hours to go back to Calgary. Dh has been sick for almost a week now but he feels we should get going so I'll likely do a lot of the driving. I'm really going to miss the ocean. We often pick up a latte and drive to this point that overlooks the water. It feels like going to a drive-in movie - today we saw a big bald eagle sitting on a rock about 30 ft away. He sat there for at least 10 minutes. While we're watching, an otter goes swimming by and another one climbs up onto some rocks. The usual seal heads pop up frequently. This is the same point where we saw 3 whales splashing around in August. Off to finish packing and try sleeping.

Frankly I think that one of you should take the black cloud for a while. I mean, Tam and I have had posession enough! Car broke down yesterday, all the lights came on, it stalled in traffic and steam poured from the hood. Not a good sign. Left it parked at Walmart overnight; when we went back this morning when I tried to add water to the radiator it poured right back out. Okay, tow truck to the Kia dealership = $65. Verdict from Kia...need a new radiator, need a new water pump, need a new.....you get the picture. He actually suggested I speak to the sales department about getting a new car...that's fine and dandy but I've got virtually no income! We're talking $1,600...when you're making about $800 monthly on unemployemt that's kind of difficult to swing. So once again I have to crawl to the bank of mommy. Between the two of us, I'm afraid of how many credit cards we're going to max out for this one.

Think good thoughts for me and the Deerslayer. I'm sorry to whine again but I'm starting to really worry what the fark I'm going to do!

My humungeous turkey is still in the oven (I always cook it the day before so I can have a rest the day before back to work). I bought the smallest one I could get which is 13 lbs. and I got absorbed in designing quilts and didn't put the brute in until about 3:30, so I hope we can eat sometime before I have to go to bed. As there is only the 2 of us we are going to have SOME leftovers. Also on the menu is a roasted blue pumpkin, Scotch oatmeal dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and brussel sprouts with pancetta and a dash of maple syrup. Mr. PD, like Ralphie's father, is a turkey junkie so none will go to waste. It usually takes a week for us to polish off a 10 pounder. On the thanksgiving note, I'm thankful for a regular paycheck *G*, and I'm so thankful for all of you in our cyber community.

Believe it or not, there's finally somebody hospitalized in my family that's NOT me. I'm just sorry it's my 84 yo mom who had to break my losing streak.

They admitted her to the hospital last night after I'd taken her to the er because of severe pains in her abdomen. Seems she has an obstruction in her bowel; she is feeling better today and responding to treatment but they are still running tests which makes me worry. She is also not pleased with the tube running down her nose and has voiced this opinion repeadedly, with which I sure can't argue!

12 Hours in the ER yesterday and not a doctor that even resembled Luca or Carter in the house. We did have a lovely polish nurse from whom we could understand about four words in ten who became very distressed when mother began vomiting green. And I'm sure that God will forgive me for telling her later, well, we ARE Irish.

Say a few for me too. I've had some unexplained fevers lately and a couple of other symptoms make me think the kidneys might be taking a wee vacation again. Unfortunately the po' folk clinic can't see me until October 14, which might be stretching it a little. If I really have to I can always go to the er again...I mean, how much more can that add to the $10 a month I'm paying in installment for the rest of my life?

Thanks for listening. I guest I needed to vent. I just can't get sick right now and put in the hospital. With my luck they'd put me in the room with my mother.

- UPDATE: Mom seems to be doing well, pain mostly subsiding but they still have her on a liquid diet, which she is protesting with great enthusiasm. I wouldn't be her nurse for all the tea in China. Hey, wait a minute; when she comes home, I will be...ewww. Blood tests on me show critically low level of magnesium, which we are correcting with a supplement and will revisit Thursday.
