• It was pretty lowkey. You all know Brians family is pretty religious, and I think this new girlfriends family is too, although there was WINE there! *g* Crazy Joan didnt show up! • A bunch of us on the weight watchers board have been doing Jillian Micheals "Shred" dvd. Im on day , around 9, and the only place Ive really seen a difference is in my middle. • Sit ups will not help your rolls, sorry. They will increase your core strenght but will not get rid of the fat on your mid section. Get back on that tread mill. Cardio, cardio, cardio. The other thing would be to increase your muscel mass by weight training. I work with a trainer 3x a week and have for 6 months. I have lost over 6 inches from my midsection but I do minimum 3 hours of cardio a week. I'm trying for 5. I've discussed this at lenght with my trainer and cardio is the only thing that will get rid of those rolls. Right now that's what we're doing, increasing my cardio. These individual short stories were published with a connecting narrative, so that they were memories of some of Miles' adventures.     • Aw, thanks! I have listened to a lot of commercially made audiobooks since then. Plus, at the time I recorded Sabella, I was a very inexperienced engineer with inadequate hardware. That was, what, ten years ago? My computer then had only a 6 GB hard drive which limited what I could keep active on the machine. My DH had all his textbooks read on tape for him for uni and let me tell you...some people are NOT 'born to read'! ;) I guess the $8 an hour they paid was their only incentive ($8 an hour in 1992 to a college student was a LOT!)...and text books ARE boring but I swear sometimes the people actually fell asleep reading them! • I would love to see the Olympics in real life one of these days but this year I'm settling for TV watching. We had the torch come through our small town on Dec. 27th. It was very exciting. We were all down there early and arrived just as the RBC table was setting up so we all got all kinds of thundersticks, tambourines, flags, pom poms etc. It was a great opportunity to see the flame up close.   • I forgot to say that one of the girls from my daughter's hockey won the coke contest and got to carry the torch in the Yukon. It was very cool and I saw all the pix on my DDs facebook. • That's fantastic, Jodi. When the Olympics were here in '88 I had a little boy in my class (in Calgary) who carried the torch into Olds (small town about 45 mins north). I took my whole class on a field trip for the day so we could be there when he came in with the torch. It was an amazing experience. We also got to take the kids to some of the venues before the actual events - like the top of the ski jump tower at COP. • Thank you everyone for your kind words Her funeral was yesterday but it was a hard weekend of making slide shows, buning CD's and filling a huge white board with pictures. I have a wonderful group of friends and we all pulled together. It's so hard to see people you love and care about hurting. And her family was so devistated. But it makes you think and appreciate the people in your life. And as morbid as it is it also made me think about what I wanted for my final wishes. • My year was pretty good too :) I have a job which pays good, don't have to wait any tables anymore. Though I like it, but it's bloody hard work. Have a job were I have to travel too *g*. I got a new bike, started to sew, have too many things to do and have finally again this feeling of being alive. Which I somehow missed the year before. As for the books I've read? Thank god for Antje she provides me the Ward books, but I couldn't finish the one of Phury. It just drove me nuts! *g* What else did I read? I don't know really. Oh I finished 2 books of the British royalties and have Henry VIII now. And no I'm not that much into the Tudors series... I don't do resolutions as well. But I would like to have more time for sewing and sport. Oh, it's the first new years eve in ages we go out. We're a bunch of women, going first for dinner too a Thai restaurant and after that to a party. I wonder how long I'll make it as I'm struck with a bad cold. • 2009...it was the best of years, it was the worst of years. Well, not really. *g* The upside...the kids were great and healthy, Nate is still the perfect baby except he's a toddler and sooooooo funny and sweet and just a dream. Our first summer with the boat was a total blast, Bud Lite Lime rocks and is way easier to pack for the day than cutting up the limes for Caronas. The bad, all the stress from the business but looking back it didn't need to be so stressful...I just need to get used to the ups and downs. I thought I was used to it but now I think I really am getting it. For 2010 I am looking forward to my first Formula 1 race in Montreal in June! If I have the guts to leave my little Natey. Connor will be just fine without us but Nate...well, he'll be fine too but will I??? *g* Tonight it's just G and me eating lobster and crab with cheese and choc fondue. And wine, lots of wine. • On the good side 2009 was the year I got married. My friends and loved ones are, for the most part, healthy. For the ones who fought with the big C, I'm happy that all but one survived. On the downside, my DH is still unemployeed, his house is STILL up for sale. For books, I'd have to say the best was finishing up with book 11 of the Wheel of Time series and getting book 12 in November. Oh, and of course, Echo!!! Hope 2010 is a better year for all of us. • Happy New Year back atcha! 2009 was ups and downs, worrying about DH losing his job and losing my uterus were pretty stressful! MIL movng out created lots of stress due to her health worries and moving her 3 times after the hospital but she's not living here and DD is so that is nice! 2010 promises the end of my Masters and hopefully some permanent weight loss for me. I started reading the Brotherhood while on medical leave on V's story right now and yeah got my taste for vamp books back! Loved Echo and my reread of DG prior to that. • I was felled by a migraine at 11am on dec 31 so any and all plans were cancelled, still hung over with the head explosion today. Last year was bad with the crazy bitch boss which I am now thankfully out from under. My best read was Echo which I dragged out as long as possible and just finished the other day, don't think it is DG's best effort; enjoyed my total reread prior, think I started in Feb so it was a whole year of Jamie. Now I ask you, what is better than a whole year of Jamie? This year I hope to bake less and sew more. I want to make suit-type jackets for me and less cake and cookies for the hips. • 2009 wasn't all bad for me. I got a new knee which I'm extremely grateful for. I also got some not so hot news which I'm praying will be resolved in 2010. As for books.....I have read a few even though I'm still seriously behind in my TBR pile. Loved Echo, and have been collecting the Ward books in my ebook but haven't started it yet as I've been addicted to everything I haven't read by Linda Howard lately. I've also just started a reread of Pillars of the Earth so I can finally read A World Without End which has been collecting dust in my bookcase as well. Happy New Year to all of my wonderful friends. • Happy New Year everyone. There were some good points in 2009, DD's hockey team won a provincial silver medal which was very exciting, and my youngest DS won his league championship. We had a Grade 8 and Grade 6 grad. The downside was quite a few deaths....it seemed a tough year in that regard. Another bummer (can't resist the pun) was Duncan's skate to butt injury on August 27th which is still an open sore with no skin. We are praying for skin ASAP but it is such a slow process. Another bonus was my new doggie bring us to two mini daschunds. As for books, probably Echo was the book that I was the most excited about. • 2009 was a busy year! I started a new job with long hours which was stressful to me (menopausal woman who sleeps for sh!t) but the people I work with are so nice so that helps alot. DH and I had some nice camping trips and other vacations. Good year all around though I'm hoping to slow things down next year (maybe quit the job for a start - we'll see!). I tried the retirement thing for about 4 months, then the 'recession' hit autumn 2008 and somehow a little part time job at the local community college worked into a full time job. • 2009 was a year of MAJOR transitions for us. DS leaving for college, DH moving home after basically 4 years. I still don't think we've found our normal. BUT...I am hoping 2010 brings some professional change for me. I have taken a tiny step and joined a photography group that meets here in town. It's a mix of pros and amature enthusiasts. I hope to graduate to the semi-pro level soon. I am also praying I get my own art room this year. I'll apply in several districts around the end of February. I'd say my only "resolutions" are to purge the house of clutter, get the whole family on a healthier diet, work toward pro-photographer status, and to write a bit. I'm kicking around the idea of a blog. I figure I've got plenty of "black cloud" stories to pass on to other navy wives. lol While I'm typing it...let's just put in a request for that black cloud to settle on someone that deserves it. lol Where's Karma?! • 2009 was a blur for me. School, a LOT of hours at work, etc. As a consequence, I didn't get to do much reading for pleasure, although the J.R. Ward books were a high point. *G* By May I will have half of my credits for my medical assistant associates degree, assuming I pass medical terminology. :p My goal this year is to lose some weight and get DH to put siding on the house. The extras are good...worth the extra $40 over the regular price? Probably not but still, if you haven't watched them then that's what I need to replace. • 2009 was a great year except for the death of a very good friend (which I still can't believe). I retired and I LOVE it. Went to Hong Kong and I loved that, too. The best, of course, is that we're all healthy and that's what really matters. Oh, and I just bought a new car last week so I'll have to round up some subbing jobs to pay for it.
