  • I admire your courage. I have told DD when she leaves, the cats are gone. I'm starting to feel about them the same way you did. DD is NEVER home anymore and I feel bad for her cat., she's starved for attention. She will come and lay and sleep with me & the dog when she gets lonely. we do have 2 but the other 1 has never been a "people person" and I can go weeks without ever seeing it.   • Oh my. It was almost 2 years ago we said godbye to our sweet Sierra - she was a Lab-mix and 12+ years old. Bad hips and dimensia had set in. It was rough, as she was our first pup to old dog. But we hit that moment. And the vet let us stay - and it was rough. Really rough. And I came home and distanced myself from the other two. And as they age, Dave refuses to go back to that vet because he didn't like how Sierra was cared for. But really, its just that we let go of her there. • I can relate - I have 2 elderly dogs and just bought a baby gate over the weekend because one is "reverse teething" as DS says. She has bad teeth and has lost a bunch but she's started chewing my rugs! The old ones in the foyer I didn't care too much but I just got a new one and it wasn't in the house a week when I noticed missing wool near the border!! Luckily I hid that under the couch but now I'm confining them to dining and kitchen when I'm not here. And even when I am here, I put a barrier up so they can't even get on the new rug. I also bought some chew toys, hopefully that will give her something to work on. But I will be glad when they've gone on to doggy heaven, I am just done with it all. Karen still is the big one for me in 2012-even thought I finally got my trip to Scotland she crept in there- what an influence she was hey? Thats why we still feel her soul still strongly! • DH and I stopped working Dec 2011 and finished the endless house reno in March. The wonderful summer not working, that I was looking forward to didn't happen because we are smack dab in the middle of a very noisy, dirty construction site. 18 houses are going in across the street where a lovely forest ONCE was. I've immersed myself in fabric, fabric dyeing, fabric design; I've been studying and taking courses and generally having lots of fun. • Well, 2012 was a year of extreme change for us. Matt had the surgery which has been alife altering success. Thank God! He's down 140 pounds since June and he feels SO MUCH BETTER. He will get his associates degree in psychology in May and he plans to apply to the police academy after that. *Fingers Crossed* he follows through. Kaitlyn is doing great except no clue where she wants to go to college. We'll start tours this spring. Steve's retirement in June was our biggest hurdle. The summer with him home was a CHALLENGE. He's back working for the navy now, but possibility of getting laid off soon. Hopefully if they do lay him off it'll only be for a month. My biggest change was starting my photography business. I also didn't ask to return as a full time sub so I am barely working. That has it's pros and cons. I HATE/LOATHE/DESPISE subbing but it was a steady pay check. In our province you get three choices, done electronically and due January 16th. Teagan finally picked three Dec 21st and then went in there Wednesday night and changed the first two to totally different choices. What she REALLY wants is a year in Disney World as a Canadian Ambassador. And she would start the conversation very honestly with them that it was good bye--she also called people to say goodbye - having time for her was a blessing. • Leonard is such a huge Canadian icon - I've loved him forever - went to his concert a few years ago when he was at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary. • Betsy, I know about the subbing issues. Last year was a total fiasco with our school board - hard to believe how bloody incompetent they are! After they screwed up numerous things last spring, they phoned to hire me the morning we were leaving for Scotland on May 16. I managed to work for one week when we got back before they laid us all off at the end of June - telling us to reapply in Oct. Did that - still waiting to hear back. I'm going to start calling again but it will likely take 3 months before they respond. • OMG how unbelievably stressful! I'm glad it all worked out and everyone is ok. :) Been a stressful weekend, here. DS's car died at college, so DH borrowed a tow dolly and DD and I went to pick him up Friday. He is sick with a bad cold and sore throat and was in a horrid mood, has been for a while as the car died two weeks ago so no transportation (he got a tank of bad gas). Got it home ok, he planned to work on his other car Saturday so that he could drive it back (needed brake lines replaced), and it rained all day. He'd go out and work on it between rain showers. At dinner he blew up at me and his dad because we were watching what he deemed a depressing movie, and spent the entire evening alone in his room. Today the weather is a bit better but he had to go get extra parts twice and had to go to five different stores to get everything he needed and he's just enraged at this point. • Renee is starting up on chemo again, a different type, the last one she had to stop since it was affecting her nerves, if she continued she would lose the use of her legs. She has the most positive attitude of anyone I know, she will pro-long her life as long as she can, that I know for sure. Kenny is a popping and peeing King, but that face....... he is a joy! Lego is doing amazingly well. Collin is off to school, hes only 45 minutes away so I see him a lot.   • I forgot to say the kids are fine, Dylan got another scholarship although I don't know for how much yet but any little bit helps. He's so in debt already and I hate that I can't help him more. He's a typical messy boy but tries to help out when he's home so I can't complain too much. :) Sierra is enjoying marching band, babysitting and can't wait to get her license in the spring. She's already looking into scholarships and so on (she already has a full two year scholarship to the local community college). I start externship at the end of October and I'm quaking in my boots about it. I know I'm well trained at this point but it's just scary. :) So, that's the superficial how ya doin' sort of thing. • I'm right there with Maria, it's still so fresh with Karen, I just can't put it into words well. I'll get to it tho. As fo my homefront...Steve is finally back to work after having the summer off. He's MUCH better wwhen working but still a PITA. Same ole same there. Kaitlyn is a junior and so far so good. Her biggest thought now is planning her 17th bday party, and deciding on a career and looking at colleges. Matt has now lost 95 pounds and feels so much better. • It's funny because Karen was such a vivid personality that I still find it hard to believe she's gone. :( I loved the video Michelle. How amazing to see all those people all over the world saluting Karen! We are carrying on here. I have been buried under hockey paperwork since Labour Day since I am the Registrar. Nightmare! I have no employment prospects at the moment. *sigh* I have a couple of resumes out but I'm not hopeful. Jeff is working 7 days a week so I'm needed to taxi kids anyway although Teagan can now drive yay! Duncan make the hockey team he wanted to so he's happy. Unusually they cut all the little attitude filled arseholes so it should be a relatively drama free year with any luck. Teagan is a senior but not sure which direction to go in next year. • I loved your video Michelle it was so wonderful to see all of the toasts. Me.... same shit. Working, there is always something to do. I did get to spend a lot of time on the golf course this summer (handing out beer & BBQ) that was nice. I really have nothing *G* Most exciting thing I have going on is I've been listening to all of the Antia Blake books. I'm up to Obsidian Butterfly. It's kind of neat. • As you saw on FB I have been traveling! lots of drama rama with DD's new place - but at least I got to see M&M , meet Scotty finally!! and HUG Kenny, Lego and Lola! It was wonderful few hours! and worth the 120 mile drive! The drive out to see DD is a killler - 8 tough hours across I70 - won't be doing it much - too hard! time now to finish cleaning out closets and making honeydo lists of things needed to be able to list the house in a year -then in October I will get serious about subbing- I have a training for our school district in town on Oct 11. • Loved your video of Karen, Michelle! Same old same old here--this is the busiest time of the year at work for me, and I find that the older I get, the less resilient I am to deal with the daily grind. I'm tired. But, I feel like a wuss for feeling tired, because other than having to work hard, I am so blessed!! DH is good. Kids are good. DD is still really enjoying her Peace Corps experience--I worry about her, but perhaps a wee bit less after having the chance to visit her there and meet her people. • Hey M!!! Where's the Kenny pictures?? I don't have anyone going back to school this year. It's a little weird. Josie is struggling to figure out what she want's to do. She's only 17 so it's not the end of the world not going back to school right away. She's changed her mind so many time over the last year. She's a little freaked about starting something only to find out it's not what she wants. She was going to go back and take some upgrading but has decided not to. • We're really thinking about getting another dog. Our Chessie died June 2011 and we've been without a dog since then - much easier to walk around the backyard (even though she mostly went in a designated place) and the grass is lovely now, but I miss having a pooch. I'm not sure I want to go through that puppy stage again, though - all the chewing and toilet training. It's been 15 years since I've done that! • Wow that is very touching. I think Karen would have loved it. I wish all the best for Jenna and her parents. It's so sad that this touches all of us. My Aunt Mary had a masectomy (sp?) in May. She's doing really well and all the tests have come back clean. Stage 1, nothing in the lymph nodes so she won't have to do chemo. They have put her on a medication for the next 5 years. Stonger!!!
