• I love the new do. What a cutie. Fergus was rainy and muddy but still lots of fun. We really missed Karen but had a nice tribute gathering for her on Friday night where Toxic Haggis and AnnS played Loch Lomond and Home for a rest. We filled a journal with memories and signed quilt squares for Kellye's new baby boy who is due to arrive in early September. We had Kellye and Lily all weekend and Thom on Friday night. • Well that Chinese herb has just been unbelievable! It seems to have stopped her bleeding, and whatever blood was left seems to be absorbing into her body.......so her tummy has gone down, she has more energy. From what the vet says and online comments it looks like the longest time given is 8-12 months. I have not heard of this herb before, but it seems it was rather common with the Chinese during WWII and American soldiers in the Viet Nam war..... you learn something new every day.   • hahahahaha, I found this old crap in my house! I forgot that I had prepped the dresser because it was not raw wood. I wrote to the Milk Paint co. and they told me to use an acrylic gesso type product before applying the paint. Milk paint is made to go on unfinished wood. The bookcase, also finished wood, was painted in white Caromal paint and I thought that would be the finish. You see in the photo how it isn't full coverage and I just slapped on the paint. I didn't like the final look and then found Chalk paint and covered that with the turquoise, still letting some white and walnut show thru.   • ya the list of stuff to do in retirement is LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG. Really this doesn't take long because there isn't any stripping. Cleaning up the piece, removing hardware, base coat and one or 2 top coats, maybe a wax finish (the turq book case was waxed with the chalk paint wax). • Speaking of paint, have you guys found 'Chip It' by Sherman Williams? You submit a photo or an image from online and they give you a paint colour palette from the photo. You can put a button on your tool bar to use whenever you come across some beautiful thing and instantly 'chip it' and you can also save these samples. • I wish I could get pix from my phone to my computer. :( At the elementary school where I was teaching there were HUGE posters on every hall that had a pic of a hand gun with the red circle and slash through it. With "NO GUNS IN SCHOOL" in big bold letters. I was like, seriously...if we didn't have the posters would they think it WAS okay??!! I am now facing the music with my job and trying to make a decision really leaning towards quitting and just subbing. Have to learn to not spend an extra dime if we do that but I am so miserable it would be worth it! DD got a new job and is moving August 6!     • I paint stuff with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint all the time and then sell it in my booth. I have a love hate relationship with it. It's very easy to use. You don't have to sand or prime whatever you are painting. It's great for peices that you want to distress or have a lot of carving on them. If you are looking for a smooth finish you might be better off with latex paint. I haven't tried milk paint yet, but I have bought it. Check out Miss Mustard Seeds blog. She uses both kind of paint. • So far nothing has made him throw up, but he'll get pain in his chest, basically where the stomach pouch is. If he takes too big of bites, or eats too fast, or too much it causes pain. He seems to tolerate sugar fine (bummer) and dairy and spicy. He's lucky in that regard. It's kind of 4 steps forward one step back. His mood changes daily too. • I had a LUXURIOUS 3 wks off school, with short work hours. I really needed the break, and have been getting some projects done around the house/yard. I have classes this semester, but not as demanding, Dylan's been home from school since the end of April, taking one class at the local community college but not until the 25th. We'll have the applying for his loans mess for his soph year soon. Sierra is learning to drive and doing well at it, very involved in her scout troop and fundraising for their trip to Savannah in August. She swears this will be her last year in scouts, she's tired of all the extra 'stuff' and wants to concentrate on marching band/color guard. However, the band program at our little school is up in the air due to budge cuts, so I don't know what the future may bring. DH is....well, he is what he is, nice enough, goes to work every day, just not that involved with me or the kids. • UPDATE: Matt is out of surgery and in recovery. Doc says all went well. We were all afraid they'd have to do a Gastric Sleve instead, but they did the regular bypass. Last night was ROUGH, he freaked out and took off. I was afraid he'd went to eat, but he didn't. Was a LONG night of us spying and checking on him. But...Doc said went better than expected. • Adding on to this list . . . DH & I are leaving for our Alaska trip on Monday the 11th. We'll be back on the 26th. Excited but a bit nervous about the whole packing thing. We'll be in Alaska - at 3 different hotels the first 4 nights, then 7 days on the ship, then 2 nights in Vancouver and another 2 nights in Seattle. That's lots of hotels, lots of different kinds of clothes needed and lots of living out of suitcases. (Did I mention we're flying into Fairbanks so want to limit it to one suitcase and one carry-on each?) I ordered hooded rain jackets and fleeces for each of us and I've been on pins and needles waiting for them. Talked to the store manager today and he offered to overnight fed ex them to me so I should have them tomorrow. He's a hero! Tam, so glad Matt came through his surgery okay.   • When my parents go on their big vacations (Scottland, Greece, etc...the lucky dogs),my mom does everything in black, white & kacki. That way everything matches.     • I ALWAYS overpack. The main issue with this trip, besides the length of time we'll be gone, is the challenge of limited suitcases - not only for the flight but also for the train/bus travel. Also, we often put some of each of our clothes in each other's suitcases in the hopes that if they lose one bag they won't lose both of them. GRRRR! • I'm so glad to hear that Matt's surgery went very well. Hope everything progresses positively for him! I've had a busy last few months - first a trip to Hawaii with friends, only to have to leave after a few days because my MIL who had just been diagnosed with lung cancer was dying, having an aggressive form of cancer that was quickly spreading. We flew directly to Detroit (she's in Windsor) and stayed about three weeks (spent a few days with her, then funeral and legal matters). Back to Calgary, then I found a great flight using Airmiles to Oahu and rescheduled another Hawaii trip, much scaled down. Then back to Windsor for more legal crap and we're home now and I don't want to see the inside of an airport for a while!. Summer plans will be camping and fishing and I'm good with that! • I FINALLY finished school today! • I just finished the last one. I felt the same way. I liked the story ok. The writing sucked. It was an obvious plot line and I did not see one big dang deal about the sex scenes. Frankly nothing they did was all THAT kinky. I skimmed through the sex cause it was repetitive and the dialogue was annoying at times. One thing that bugs me is stupid characters and I felt the chick was a bit on the dimwitted side at times. I sound critical, but I did actually enjoy them. They are quick easy reads. • I read all three in a week. Have to say I enjoyed reading them once I got beyond the poor writing style, the teen-age dialog, and the mix of Brit/US slang. The sex was repetitive and not shocking at all, IMHO. Other than the 'red room' it was pretty tame/mundane stuff - not at all innovative. I enjoyed the story although I felt the ending was predictable. I was in the middle of my re-read of the BDB books in preparation for Lover Reborn. I followed the 50 shades books with the first 3 of J R Ward's Fallen Angels books, which I loved. So . . . after this long confusing post, I would enjoy hearing more of the 50 shades story from Christian's viewpoint but have to admit I much prefer the BDB and the Fallen Angels. Guess that means I prefer big ageless vamps dressed in leather to neurotic young billionaires who think they invented sex. • It was awesome. LC did not perform but received his award for a lifetime of contribution to the arts so he made a little speech then sat in a spot of honor and watched the tributes. There were 9 or 10 musical performers doing songs including his son, Adam. All very really well done and only Greg Keelor forgot the words. :). The speakers were Adrienne Clarkson, Michael Ondaatje, Melissa Auf der Mar and Alan Rickman. They told stories and then most read either a poem or excerpt from his novel. It was a really neat night! We had a fabulous brunch, then spent the day at the beach with 2 of our 3 pups. A VERY chill day. Was SOOO nice. I did get roses from DH, and a bookmark and 2 Starbucks giftcards. I typically buy my bedding plants and call that my Mother's day gift. I sent my mom a giftcard to Olive Garden. It's what she wanted. I can't wait to see all y'alls pics from your trips to Scotland.
