This is so inspiring to read. Thank you for informing about this. I whole heartedly agree. It is sad that many Filipinos are ashamed of their true ethnicity, but I am glad that some are starting to realize the error of this. Nothing wrong with being pure Filipino. I am really sick of hearing people say they're filipino, chinese, spanish when they can't even prove it! Especially when it is not even true!

I really loved those articles posted, especially the first two. Reading about this makes sense to me. Additionally, it does seem illogical that Filipinos would have Spanish blood, as I read in an article "Indio to Filipino" (can't remember the author, sorry) that the Spanish population was only about 1% or less. Spaniards who migrated preferred to settle in South America, hence that is why many Latinos look kind of Spaniard. I think that if many Spaniards did settle in the Phils, then Filipinos would also look quite European, like the Latinos. But that is not the case.

Some Filipinos do have Spanish blood, no doubt. But most do not. I know some who really do have Spanish blood. But they are a rare minority. The average Filipino undoubtedly does not.
And many Filipinos do lie about their ethnicity. Aside from that contestant in American idol, it seems that Jessica Hagedorn and Tia Carrere do as well - kind of obvious they have the IMSCF Syndrome; they say that they are filipino, spanish, chinese and some other ethnicities.

And what is this nonsense about Filipinos being Pacific Islanders? Is it not common knowledge that Filipinos are Asians? Strange idea that is. I don't even really know what Pacific Islanders are (pardon my ignorance).

I hope more people start to learn about this IMSCF Syndrome and realize the error of their ways. This is a good start. Once again, thank you for posting this.

If his last name is non-Hispanic but native Filipino like Aglipay or Macapagal, then he is surely Filipino unless he was just adopted by native Filipinos. Some Chinese and even other Asians look Filipino because all of us are from Asia. You can just tell if he has some Spanish blood by the features of his face. If he looks like the rich and rare Caucasian-looking Zobel de Ayala people in Manila, then he surely has a Hispanic bloodline. (Click for more)Jasmine10/25/05 7:12am PDT
