Subject: Correspond via email

Hello,
My dear friend, Phyllis in New Hampshire informed me of your chat site. I retired last June with 41 Yrs of State Human Services in the Child Support Division. For years I enjoyed my hectic, demanding and rewarding position as a Supervisor II for 20 employees in a busy Interstate office. I'm trying to get used to retirement. I'm currently focusing on exercise for myself. It's always been an effort for me. Once I'm involved, I enjoy the exercise and the socolizing. I started Tai Chi today and next week will return to Acquacize. Doing exercises in water is less tiresome. Of course, walking is always good. WE are anxious for the snow tp melt off the sidewalks. I have a newly adopted cat, named Snowball who is entirely all white with strange color eyes.. amber (yellowish). When I adopted him (age 2) he had already had his front paws declawed. He loves attention. This week will be first time leaving him alone for 24 hrs so will
interesting to see how he does solo. I do have a neighbor to check on Snowball and feed him. I have probably said enough for my first email.
Please write when you have a few moments. I could use advice on my new role as retiree.
Be well and enjoy each new day.
Nancy in NH

Hello Nancy-so nice to meet you. I too had a busy life before retirement-I was a television program director and after 7 months of retirement I got bored and then for 6 years worked at the local animal shelter. Then my husband got ill so I had to quit.He is doing ok now,by ok I mean he sits and watches tv all day-lol.Then a year and a half ago I got ovarian cancer and after surgery was given 6 months to 2 yrs to live.Oct coming will be 2 years and I still feel fine.Spent my time since chemo getting involved in all I could.
I am a member of the board of the local animal shelter, visit nursing home patients, member of the Lutheran church ladies club and I travel where ever any of my family members offer me a ride.I have my own car but it isn't much fun travelling alone.
I did belong to aquafit but since my chemo, pool chemicals dry my skin so I am praying for warm weather so I can resume my passion for swimming.
Oh you will find lots to keep you busy, I forgot to mention a friend and I also volunteer at the local hospital..we do the books for the gift shoppe there and for the pop machines, that only takes one morning a week, soon as folks know you are retired they will find things for you to do.
Welcome to our chat.Sometimes we gather often and at times we seem too busy but it is so nice to be in touch.

Hello Tina and Ellie,
So nice to hear from both of you. This time making my note brief as I am meeting Phyllis for lunch and shopping. We try to get together weekly. It was interesting to hear about how you keep busy in your retirement. I just need to give myself time as I also have been in a grieving status as my mother died June 2004 of a long illness that I was involved as caregiver.
Dementia was the disease. I am attending a Grief Support Group weekly and I think it has helped.
Also, my 14 yr old cat, Rosie died the same day.
Adopting Snowball has helped in the loss of Rosie. Phyllis is a dear friend and is a good listener and advisor. Both of you give me inspiration. Right now I'm focusing on more exercise in my life. Continue to Play, Eat, and Sleep which I quote from a canine book, "Life is Good" by Dean Koontz which was written through the eyes of a Golden Retriever. Good to hear you like to write. I just mailed out a dozen Easter/Spring cards as I think it's nice to keep in touch via United States Post Office, too.
Keep Smiling and be well. Thank you, nancy

Hi Nancy..Welcome to our chat group, lovely to hear from another person as it has grown a little 'teensy' here lately. I'm Ellie, and I live in Melbourne,Australia.. here in the southern hemisphere we are just into Autumn(fall) as you are coming into Spring.. Re retirement.. it's a joke! I too am of retirment age.. and this last week we had the annual Senior Cits week full of all sort of freebies and outings for olders and I was too busy to go!! I'm stillworking part time, afew days a week, a community outreach worker, and I belong to 2 writing groups and a local theatre group and because I don't have a car and don't drive I walk everywhere (that's my exercise!) I'm sure you will find plenty.. too much! to do in your retirement! Oh, I have 2 cats..Grania, a smoky grey female (very Bossy!) and Feller, a neutered ginger male(very sweet!) qnd 2 BIG goldfish.. Storm and Equinox.. live in a second floor apartment.. so animal keeping is limited!
Now I have to leave for work!
Ellie.
