Re: Orthdox Easter..and Ellie's question -- Phyllis, 22:01:33 05/07/05 Sat (dial-69-67-237-168.usadatanet.net/69.67.237.168)
Hi Ellie and Tina,
It is a very rainy Saturday today and more rain is expected for tomorrow.
Yes the Eastern Orthodox easter includes different ethnic backgrounds including Greek, Albanian, Russian and other too. It is the most celebrated and important and joyous Holy Day in the year. The red egg custom began with Mary Magdalene. After Christ's Ascension she went to the Emperor of Rome and greeted him with "Christ is Risen" while giving him a red egg. The egg is symbolic of the tomb and the renewal of life by breaking out of it. The egg itself is a symbol of the Resurrection- while being dormant it contains a new life within.
Ellie, how wonderful that your granddaughter is expecting a little girl. She must be thrilled.
Congratulations Tina on being elected to represent your church. What a great honor.
My daughter's shower will be Sunday on May 15th. So far she does not suspect anything. She believes that we are taking my oldest sister and her husband out to dinner to celebrate her birthday. I hope she will be surprised!
Wishing all a Happy Mother's Day.
I will be going to church and then out to dinner for Mother's day.
Have a good week.
Phyllis
