Subject: First Day Back

Well, we started back with homeschooling today, and had a great time.

I came to the realisation today that J has forgotten everything I've ever taught him about writing a report. *wobbly eyed smace* I guess I know what we're doing for English for the next month or so.

Other than that it was a very productive day, even with a sick husband at home.

I was so glad that all the neighbourhood kids haven't gone back to school yet (they go back tomorrow). I went in to check on dh and told J and X to go outside and play some hopscotch for PDHD. I sat down and dh laid his head on my lap and promptly drifted off to sleep. I was sitting there rubbing his (now bald - he shaved it about a fortnight ago) head and the next thing I know J and X come racing into the room and X is, "Mummy, J won one game and I won one, so we're both even!" I'd fallen asleep too. At least people are still used to seeing kids racing around outside for now. OOPS!

We're busy tomorrow with schoolwork and registration for dance. J and X want to do a ballet duo together this year, X wants to do ballet and modern and J wants to do ballet. Also J wants to do Tae Kwon Do this year so I might be registering him for that tomorrow as well once I know the days dance is on. We've checked out one Dojo, but they insist on the kids being there twice a week (both times the classes are offered for their age group) and that's $80/month, so I'm not yet sure if we'll be going there. Maybe if dh takes it back up too, because then they give a family discount.

We're doing Spanish again this year.

One of the things I've implemented for this year is that J and X write out the sentence for the week and then have to draw a picture that goes with the sentence.

This week's sentence is 'Yo soy una mujer' (I am a woman).

When I went to check X's book she'd started a picture and then scribbled over it and started a new one. I asked her what the scribbled over one was and she replied, "I was going to draw a vagina, but I thought it wouldn't be a good idea".

I had to leave the room and go and laugh with dh.

Kylie, I hope your husband is all better now? The best laid plans etc...with the children missing out on school for the day.

I love your bit about your daughter and her drawing. It brought to mind a scene from the film, Kindergarten Cop where a little boy says...girls have Vag... and boys had pen.... Made me laugh at the time coming from a 4 year old.
