MAO is a non profit organization but they have to raise the scholarship funds. My child’s participation in the program has paid for two years of tuition and she has enough left in her 529 for the coming year as well. And she’s only ever been in top 10. Well I would have to add it up for an exact number but we have found great deals on gowns. Interview we usually get something great at Dillards. Fitness we have used the same one several times. Talent we make or borrow from dance studio. We found sponsors and community members to support her through the whole experience. Definitely have not spent 20k but I see how you could easily if you aren’t guided by someone who knows how to navigate the system on a reasonable budget. (NT) No name 07:12:42 06/28/25 Sat

It's really your own fault in regard to expenses if you do not do your homework and find ways around breaking the bank. However, if you have raised a spoiled brat who cries and says her dress has to come from XY&z because everyone elses' does or if she has to have the 500 makeup job from Madam WhoseeWhatsee because nobody else is qualified to spread the goop on her face. Keep in mind, there's always someone willing to take your money. I work with contestants (very limited fees) and once found a gown at Goodwill for 20.00. I agree. I think people are going in blind and not doing the research. They become followers instead of staying true them themselves and shopping where they want. I do understand using the sponsors but most of them will work with your budget if you tell them but at the end of the day they are a business and will sell you what you’re willing to buy. I’m blessed with daughters who understand finances and have always been gracious and as they got older worked and saved money to purchase the wardrobes they wanted.
