Subject: More on Doubley

Below is a response to a post I made on the Big Apple Sports JC website about David Doubley committing to UOP this is what a person who posts under the name DRinca had to say about David.

"I saw that Doubley had committed to UOP. He's an excellent player and someone I've truly enjoyed watching the last 2 years. Reportedly his other two "finalists" were USF and CS Northridge. As a USF alumn who now lives 15 minutes from Northridge...well my loss is UOP's gain I guess.

I think he's the best JC point guard in California - on at least the same level as Mark Brown and Maurice Moore as a creator, and a better shooter than either of them. I've seen him play a total of 13 times the last 2 years and aside from one game in which he struggled due to a foot injury, he was one of the top players on the floor every time. Skyline went 57-15 in his two years there, which is tied for the second-highest two-year win total in school history.

In terms of his style, the word I think of is smooth. He has excellent anticipation and decision-making ability, and has the skill level to take advantage of what he sees. He is an excellent outside shooter, hitting almost half his 3-point attempts this season. But he can also score off the dribble, and he's an outstanding playmaker, as evidenced by his state-leading assist numbers. This season he led the state in assists by a fairly wide margin (he averaged 9.4 per game - Moore was 2nd at 7.7) and averaged just over 15 pts per game. He can play either guard spot, though his game is quickness and grace rather than strength. He's listed at 6-2, 162 so he's not exactly a banger. He often gets good rebound numbers because he knows where to go for the ball and he can jump - again, his anticipation plays a key role there. And he's a great free throw shooter, especially with the game on the line. He shot 86% from the line this season and 87% last season.

In one of the games I saw - against Cosumnes River just before Christmas - he had one of the most remarkable performances I've seen at this level: 18 pts (on 6/10 shooting), 16 assists and no turnovers. Not surprisingly, Skyline won that game fairly easily (118-72). In the other game I saw this season, he was a key figure in Skyline's win over then-unbeaten CCSF when he had 26 pts and 8 assists.

As a freshman, he averaged 14.8 pts and 7.3 asts per game and was a Co-MVP (along with Anthony Woodards, now at St. Mary's) of the Skyline team as well as first team all-conference. That Skyline finished 30-5 after losing to DVC in the regional final.

The other biographical info - born 7/15/82 in Oakland. Attended Berkeley HS. (From the Skyline College media guide).

I've posted box scores from all games I've attended the last 2 years on my website. That includes two this season:

www.angelfire.com/sports/jc/Feb20.html

and 11 Skyline games from last season:

One of the 2000-01 games was against Shasta, which featured current UOP PG Demetrius Jackson. Jackson got the better numbers that night but Skyline won the game. Doubley's cousin, Jason Holman, had a big game off the bench for them that night.

Hope this is helpful - if you have any other questions just ask."
