Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday. It is the Jewish festival of lights, involves the lighting of candles for eight days. It is spell in three different ways; Chanukah, Hanukkah, and Hannukah. For the eight days they celebrate the commencing on the 25th day of the month of Kislov(Nov./Dec.), to commemorate the victory of the Jews over the Hellenist Syrians in 165 BC.

Well, I was in Laguna Mills Mall, and they had them in white. Pooh, Eeyore & Tigger are white (Tigger has blue strips) and the hat and jumper are blue. They are fab. Tigger, Pooh & Eeyore are both 12" plushes costing $19.50. They have a 15" Tigger costing $32.50 and an even larger Pooh in.

I am trying to purchase Pooh's Friendly Places collections that were manufactured by Mattel in the late 90's. My biggest problem is knowing what the collections actually were so that I can do more exhaustive searching on the web. Does anyone know the names of the indeividual collections
i.e. Pooh's Very Grand Garden, Pooh's Day at the Lake, etc.?

If you know of sites where I can purchase these types of sets, I would be most appreciative.

Just been reported in the press below. It does look like good news at the moment, according to the report below, quite a few companies (being private equity companies) are interested in the Disney Store. Seems an annoucement is due in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed.

Walt Disney has hired Goldman Sachs to help it sell its troubled chain of Disney Stores in North America and Europe for up to $500m (�310m).

The company, famous for its Mickey Mouse and Snow White characters, is hoping to sell the 480-strong chain as a going concern and Goldmans is expected to release details of the sale in the next few weeks.

Private equity firms, including Electra Partners, are lining up to take a look at the business. KKR, Permira and PPM Ventures are also thought to be interested.

One private equity player, who did not wish to be named, said: "The big issues are what the arrangements are with Disney: how they want to control product supply, the brand name and the exit."

Disney first signalled that the magic had fled from its retail chain two years ago, when it sold its Japanese stores to the Oriental Land company, which operates the Tokyo Disney Resort.

The deal, which came in the same year as rival AOL Time Warner sold its chain of Warner Bros stores, allowed the animation studio to receive a percentage of the profits. It is understood that Disney is hoping for a similar arrangement when it sells Disney Stores.

In 2001, the group had 522 stores in the US but lacklustre returns prompted it to downsize. After closing the remaining unprofitable locations it is expected there will be about 300 Disney Stores left for sale in North America.

At present, Disney has 374 stores in the US, 46 in continental Europe and 60 in the UK including at Covent Garden and Oxford Street in London.

One property analyst said: "There is a big question mark over the profitability of the UK stores, which are no longer a great attraction at shopping centres. They are virtually all leasehold stores and if they were on a market rent they would not be able to afford it."

Disney said in May that it would explore options for the chain, which it blamed for a 38pc drop in second-quarter profit at its consumer products unit.

The theme park giant revealed that it earned $400m or 19 cents a share in the third quarter, against $364m or 18 cents a share last year.

However, according to a report by a Lehman Brothers analyst, in the second quarter Disney's consumer products division, which includes the retail unit, reported revenues down 13pc to $500m, while operating income fell 38pc to $53m.

The 75-year old Walt Disney Company created the idea of the Disney Store in 1984, when Michael Eisner, the chairman and chief executive of the company, joined the business.

The first Disney Store was opened in Glendale, California in March 1987. It was the first Disney merchandise shop run by the company outside its theme parks.

There have been ten deaths at Disneyland since its opening, with the vast majority due at least partly to human error, including Guests misbehaving or engaging in horseplay. I am very attached to my Winne the Pooh slippers which are more than 5 years old. They were a gift from my mom (now deacesed) and are falling apart. Actually, it is the soles that are in poor shape. I cannot wear them so they are on display in my living room snuggling up to Eeyore!

I have tried locally (Baltimore) to purchse new slippers (women size 7-8) After 2+ years I have not found these adult size slippers.

Hi, I just found this site and hope somebody can help me out. I'm looking to get the Tokyo Disneyland 20th Anniversary Mickey & Minnie standing dolls. They are 3800 Yen each and are dressed in their 20th Anniversary outfits (Mickey in Blue coat, white pants, yellow tie, and Minnie in blue and pink dress with tiara). I don't really know any other way to get these, so I figured I would post here in case anyone goes to TDL regularly.

I also have a vintage leather beaded mickey and minnie purse which is in great condition, and this to has the walt disney stamp. I watched as the transformation from Critter Country to the Hundred Acre Wood began to take shape, and was very interested to see how a rather narrow and clumsy counter-service restaurant, a small arcade and a crowded merchandise location would be transformed into a three-room merchandise complex. The new venue is warm and welcoming with just the right mix of rustic country style, high-concept character decor and hi-tech shopping convenience. The color scheme is softly vibrant and the lighting takes on a honey hue as the light is diffused through the bee hive-shaped ceiling lights.

As reported on the BBC News Tonight in the UK, the following:-

Walt Disney has decided to get rid of its loss-making chain of shops.

Disney's consumer products chairman Andy Mooney said that if the company failed to find a buyer all of the North American stores could close.

The European chain is also being put on the market but it is profitable, so should be easier to sell.

In the 1990s Disney stores, selling Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh cuddly toys and other movie spin-offs, were a growing success.

But the group expanded too quickly and after reaching a peak two years ago, the number has been gradually falling as unprofitable sites have been closed.

Last year the chain as a whole lost $50m (�30.5m).

Disney juices

Two years ago Disney sold its Japanese stores to Oriental Land, the company that runs the Disney theme parks in Tokyo.

It is hoping to do a similar deal with the rest of its stores.

Retail analysts said potential buyers were scarce, although some said foreign companies looking for a foothold in the United States might be interested.

As its own stores have been declining, Disney has been pursuing a new strategy of developing products for major retailers such as Kmart and Wal-Mart.

It has also revamped its licensing arrangements to produce Disney juices with Coca-Cola and Disney breakfast cereals with Kellogg's.

It has also gone into the consumer electronics business with walkie-talkies and phones made by Motorola and DVD players, TVs and radios made by Memcorp.

Sky News, has reported the following:- DISNEY MULLS STORES SALE Disney is considering selling off its 60 UK high street stores. The move is part of a wider plan which could see the sale of 106 Disney stores across Europe and 522 in North America. The corporation is struggling to tackle the effects of weakness in the retail sector. The group has already cut 25% of its shops in North America and sold its Japanese outlets to Oriental Land, operator of Disneyland, Tokyo. Earnings slip But earlier this month Disney reported that its consumer products division had seen revenues slide 14% to �306m in the three months to March 31. That was because of the soft retail market in North America. A statement from the company added that further closures in North America were on the cards as it prepares the chain for possible sale. So would that be weird for it to be released at WDW? Or maybe it was not reported correctly. If anybody knows would you post here. Disney (DIS: news, chart, profile) will seek a buyer for its 548 Disney Stores worldwide, the company announced after the closing bell. The announcement had been expected since last week, after Chief Financial Officer Thomas Staggs reportedly told an analyst that a sale was possible.

On Thursday, Disney solidified that stance, saying its goal is to sell the operations outright. Peter Whitford, president of the Disney Store chain, has resigned and will be replaced temporarily by Andy Mooney, chairman of the company's consumer products division.

In a conference call with reporters, Mooney said it has proven too difficult for the Disney Stores to compete for company capital with a number of diverse entities such as movie studios, theme parks and the ABC Television Network. Retail outlets are not a "core competency" for Disney, Mooney said.

He added that Disney would consider closing the stores if it could not find a buyer.

"That would be one of the options," Mooney said. "We have absolutely not made the decision to close the stores."

Mooney said there is no time frame for finding a buyer, adding the company feels confident it can find interested parties.

Weak performance at Disney Stores has dragged down the company's consumer products division.

Mooney said the stores stopped being profitable after Disney initiated a plan to boost the store count in North America from 300 to 800 stores. Disney has reduced that store count in recent years, and the North America number now stands at 387.

More stores will be closed as Disney plans to at least reduce the number of stores 300 again, and perhaps lower if necessary to prepare the division for sale.

The group's sales have dropped 35.5 percent since1997, from $3.8 billion to $2.4 billion in 2002. Operating income has plunged even more in that time, $893 million to $394 million, a drop of 55.9 percent.

Operating income would get a boost if the outlets were sold, although revenue also would drop, Mooney added. But the company's consumer products division would not be folded back into another part of Disney should the stores be sold, Mooney said, because its sales still are a small part of the business.

In 2001, Disney sold its stores in Japan to the Oriental Land Co., which owns and operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea under a license agreement.

Mooney said the company believes a specialty retailer would be an ideal purchaser, or a financial buyer that would create its own retail operation.

Ahead of the announcement, shares of Disney, a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, rose 24 cents, or 1.3 percent, to close at $18.12.

I saw the funniest thing at the Disney Store tonight. It was an interactive Stitch. You say something to him and he responds. Like, Tell me a joke. Stitch says "knock, knock." You say "Who's there." Serve. Serve Who, would you serve me up some dinner. (something like that).

It looks very much like a small plush and sold for $35. I got home and wished I would have bought him. I looked online and did not see him. Guess I will be driving back to the DS tomorrow :o)

NEW YORK, May 16 (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co. (nyse: DIS - news - people) is debating whether to close additional retail stores or even sell all or part of the underperforming chain, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report also states that a decision has yet to be reached, and that changes could be weeks away. The number of Disney retail stores has already been reduced to 387 in North America and about 160 overseas, the Journal reported.

A representative of Disney could not immediately be reached for comment early on Friday.

Im looking for an eeyore plush that has only been seen in these warehouses........it is blue with white and blue checks where his head hair is, on the inside of his ears, snout, belly and inside of his legs. The two businesses of consumer products are Licensing and The Disney Store. According to Andy, Disney spent too much time focusing on The Disney Store when it is more lucrative to focus on licensing. Because of this refocus the number of Disney Stores has decreased. In 2000, there were 741 Disney Stores with 515 of those being in North America. Now there are 503 Disney Stores worldwide with 375 of those being in North America. The target is to decrease the amount of stores even further with a total of 405 stores. 300 of those would be located in North America. The stores in Japan were sold to The Oriental Land Company who run the Tokyo Disney Resort. Additionally, the stores in Australia will be closed. The store has been redesigned to focus on the store�s key audience; girls from 3 to 8 and boys from 3 to 6. Plush will continue to be prominent. It will be 25 percent of total sales. There is such a lack of piglet in mbbp/plush anymore.. maybe this movie will revive the little guy! Personally I like him in statues the best as he is small and cute like he should be. The only piglets in bean bags I have ever liked are those where he was added to the character...such at the UK Christmas one with Tigger and piglet is on his back along with his christmas sack. Just a heads up, The one at Colorado Mills (Colorado)last day is March 2nd. Then they are moving to Southglen Mall next (Colorado) the lady at the store said she didn't know how long they were going to be at Southglen let's hope another couple of months. I did find a Tokyo Disneyland pin there "Fun for the 21st Century" book type with Pooh inside.

If you have anything to add about the Scuffy set I would like to hear it. It appears that Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger with honey pots was released back in March. Now this set may have had different material than the Scruffy set. I need some help from UK Collectors on this. Michelle tells me she has a receipt stating scruffy Pooh from September. I think it is so odd that if this set has been around for sometime that it is on the release list reported a few weeks back.

I am very worried about my Japanese trading partner. I have not heard from her for over a month and that is really out of character. I owe her 6 UK beanies and I am sure she would love some of these new releases but I am not getting any answers to my e-mails.

I am writing here asking for help because I know that Yukiko also has an American trading partner (as well as me in the UK). How sad- but two more sites that offered Pooh & Ty trading, info, and auctions are apparently no more- beanbagnation and knk...don't know the full details on why, but they are coming up as officially off-line.
Don't know about you all, but with all the different beanbag sites shutting down, I think that the beanbag world as we knew it is no more- how sad! Personally I think overloading the market directly contributed to this. :(

They have Pooh & Eeyore Photo Frames (both have heart antennas). Plushes, Pooh lying down with Roo on his back holding a balloon heart which flashes. Also there is an Eeyore hugging Piglet. Sometime back I read that you had to renew your membership by December. I figured that they were going to be more strict about it as this was the last year for the Disney club card. Well with being so busy as of late, I forgot to renew it (my card didn't expire until January). I am happy to report I called in and renewed it today. No hassle, no questions. It went very smoothly. So if there is anyone else out there that was not going to call because they waited to long.... don't hesitate... CALL and renew it now!

When the Disney Store first opened, CEO Michael Eisner billed them as an outlet to promote the movies and theme parks.

The current plan (According to an article in the March 2000 edition of the Wall Street Journal): Transform some locations into a Disney home store for little kids (Selling beds, quilts, lamps, light switches, etc). And What about the others? Aimed solely towards pre-schoolers!

If Disney Store merchandise was selling so poorly (Which is why the original makeovers were ordered in the first place ... Which all failed miserably, by the way), Why not come up with better products instead of figuring out ways to diminish the stores reputation and, as a result, destroy everything that made the place so "uniquely Disney"? "Where" are the store collectibles (Animation cells, framed pins, sculptures, watches, lithographs, signed Disneyana, etc)? Where are the "Art of... " books and broader selections of CD's, DVD's and videos?

Current Disney should stop churning out sequels to practically every one of their timeless animated classics and instead focus on producing more original fare. This makes way for great merchandising opportunities and as a result would give the Disney Store greater business.

I am "sure" all those highly educated Disney business men thought of this, though.

Hey ... Why not just turn Disneyland into a giant playground with shops? There's an idea. After all, it would be cheaper to operate and future generations will only it as a giant kiddie area. Not the family entertainment giant it once was.

Just like some of the Disney Stores are now. And If Eisner gets his way, just like every Disney Store in the "near" future will be.

The company today preaches about family, yet at the same time ignores the very aspects and principles of family entertainment upon which they were built.

When The Disney Store debuted, CM's would always go beyond the "basic" customer service. They would greet you at the door & ask you what your interests were and automatically reserve future items based on those interests.

And Now, not only is this not practiced anymore at most locations, but the entire store has suffered because they're "not" practiced anymore. How? By destroying a "huge" part of what made The Disney Store so unique in the first place, people would rather go to a "regular" outlet such as Wal Mart or Costco for their Disney CD's, DVD's, etc.

The unique customer service offered by Disney Store Cast Members always left a sense of true commrodery and relationship with the guest. The friendly greeting at the door, the automatic reservation of Disney merchandise; This is what made many guests come back time and time again. Sure, they could have bought those soundtrack albums at Wal Mart. But It was at The Disney Store where they truly felt special. Where their newfound friends act as Cast Members. And Where that seemingly magical commrodery between guest and cast truly meant they were -- and Had to be -- no place else but Disney.

Taking this all away not only destroyed customer loyalty (The store literally lost hundreds of customers who would visit frequently to buy framed art or other high end collectibles), but it threw away the ideals and principles that Disney was founded on.

The company is celebrating Walt Disney�s 100th birthday this year.

I went to my local Disney Store on the Sunday before Christmas, and it was practically empty! Save for a few people who were browsing the store (Half of which ended up not buying anything) ... it is now like a cramped, practically lifeless thing.

Makes me sad & mad at the same time...

Even the tiniest improvement to these stores would be welcome; or at least I think so.

If I had just one wish, it would be that the execs at Disney realize their boneheaded decisions and, at the very least, return high end Disney merchandise to all Disney Stores.

We cannot guarantee a change. But, if nothing is done, "nothing" will ever have a chance of changing.

I came to discover that animation ART is exactly that....art in its purest, most magical form. Far more than mere `cartoons', these images showcase some of the finest artists anywhere.
