Fay, how about puppets?
There are a large variety and you could give him one each time to add to his collection.
Puppets - finger, hand, stick, sock.
I like the ones made from faces cut out of family photos that are attached to an icy pole stick or chop stick. - cheap, easy, quick and a remembrance
