Hi Rick, I have some suggestions. I'm dys too and a guitar player. Here's my suggestion(s). The dys brain is actually a pretty great gift once you figure out how to use it. With guitar one is trying to control and use both hands independently, so you you're going to start with one hand. Start with your picking hand (left or right, doesn't matter). Don't use a pick. Start with your thumb on that hand and pick the low string (E). Then tap your opposite foot. Pick, thump, pick, thump. Slowly! It won't be smooth at first. Take your time. It took me weeks to get it smooth. Eventually, something sort of magical will happen, you will find yourself sort of watching yourself play the pick, thump. Almost like someone else is playing. That's the magic of the dys brain! Now you're ready to add more strings on the picking hand. Move between the low E (6th string) and the 5th string. 6th, foot thump, 5th foot thump, 6th, etc. After this, you'll know when to add more strings and when you're ready for the fretting hand. Also, you can alternate the feet for the thump. (The only reason you're even doing the foot thing is to push this new learning into a new and unused part of your brain.) Stick with this as I've taught a lot of Dys people to play including my grandkids. Let me know if you have other questions.
