Hello,I have a dear friend with dyslexia. We text each other via our mobile phones. His words are spelt strange but I can decipher what he is saying. What bothers me sometimes is that sometimes he replies to my texts and sometimes he doesn't.He doesn't tend to reply to the more lengthy ones.Is this cos of the dyslexia do you think?I'm ashamed to say I have had a go at him about this and he has said nothing back.He has never told me about the dyslexia. His father told me.I feel bad now reading all the information about dyslexia on the internet.Juiette.

Sometimes this is not understanding what is required of him. I had to learn this - how strange is this I think to myself. It could be he has nothing to say. Remember he is a male and not a female. Females are far better in socialising than males. males are often loners (males together is one up man ship - I am better than you), and if one can't compete then one stays alone a lot of the time. This is dyslexia and it isn't. Because of problems with using words and thinking with short term memory loss one cannot perform with guys very well, as a guy. Once guys think you are not as good or quick as them then the bullying starts, better to stay alone. It would be better if you asked him if he could respond to your message even with one word. Also he might not want to write as it would give the game away that he wasn't as good as you and therefore you would reject him.Not everybody is understanding most are very cruel. Females are better than males for understanding but some are into the male one up man ship as well. Building trust is important for this one.

I am hesitant to type stuff to certain people to. I am very self conshus(sp) about my spelling and the way I put sentences together. I am much more willing when I know the other person or group of people im writing to are understanding and wont judge me when i mess up and spell something wrong or mix things up in a word and dont see it until days for some times hours later. I switch things around all the time even when I know how to spell it for sure. Like the word "from and Form" or "The and het" I know i dont tell alot of people that I am Dyslexic. Some people figure it out and if they ask I tell them that iam dyslexic. I know how he feels and the best thing for you to do is to be patient and show him htat you dont care that he is dyslexic. I usually feel better wrtitng/typing after i know they will handle it okay and not make fun of me for making mistakes.

I have just started Texting and it can be a real chore. It takes me a lot longer to respond so I often just ask the person to call me. Be patient with him and try not to send long messages or ones that require long responses. Pete had some good ideas too.

Like your friend I am dyslexic I also have trouble sending text depending what phone your friend is using if you use an iPhone 4 is a free He could download Dragon dictation.
You do have to be on the Internet for this to work. You simply dictate your message then copy and paste it into what application you want to use in.
One thing I find a problem with receiving text messages is people that use text speech instead of proper writing I find this very confusing and very hard to understand sometimes the people are normally text me
dyslexic do not use text speech when they text me if you using text speech to your friend it may be you just simply doesn't understand it. I also find different times of the day make a difference to me when I am reading sometimes I will get a message read it and do not understand it I can be the same message later on in the day or even the following morning and it makes complete sense if you're looking for a quick answer it's good to talk call instead saves a lot of problems.
Hope you find this useful
Malcolm
